    Amazing sights, Suzie! The aquarium in Valencia must be enormous with so many exhibits. And getting upgraded from a studio apartment to a 4-bedroom unit was truly hilarious. And I only knew Segovia as the last name of a famous classical guitarist but now I know at least a tiny bit about the city. Thanks for taking us along!

      🙂🙂🙂 Thanks for watching till the end! Yes, the aquarium is gynormous!!! It's so worth the visit. We liked Valencia better than Barcelona. The beach in Valencia is quite something!
      And yeah, I love Segovia. It's such a pretty city and it's very close to Madrid.

      @@IRunThings Valencia hosted Formula 1 races on a street circuit for a few years in the late 2000s and early 2010s and I always enjoyed watching them. It seemed like a beautiful and very cultured city. Likewise for the marathons in recent years. Running through the medieval streets and alleys with no one else in sight looked like lots of fun. I don't have any travels plans currently, but it didn't make me any less likely want to to visit there so who knows, maybe some day.

      @largeeddie if there's just one place in Spain one can visit because of limited time, I'd choose Granada or Sevilla though. They are entirely different to anything in the rest of the world because there are lots of architecture from the three cultures (Christian, Muslim, and Jewish) from the 12th to 15th centuries and it's extremely well maintained. Specifically Alhambra in Granada is beautiful and is worth a trip to Spain on its own right

      @@IRunThings Thanks for the recommendation! Yes, I'm really interested in that aspect of Spanish history, since reading Don Quixote at least. I like telling people that places in the US like Albuquerque, Alameda, and Alcatraz actually have Arabic names (as someone who has taught algebra and algorithms) and I'd love to see those places.

      @largeeddie now I am super impressed. I can count people I know who've read Don Quixote with the fingers in one hand 🙂🙂🙂 it's such a great book. The windmills in Don Quixote are still up and still to this day, running. You can drive by the road, stop the car and take pictures. You can also visit the house of Cervantes in Alcala which is where I went to school

    I'd love to visit Spain but ive been told its one of the most racist countries in europe for black ppl. 😢

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  11 днів тому +1

      I don't think that's true. Have you been given examples?

      Well I certainly see it on the news with how they make racist chants against some black players in the stadium. A friend of mine said she's never going back becasue they were singled out in the airport, I've heard people talk about the comments and stares they got in restaurants etc. This narrative about spain is very widespread. Idk how it started.

      @DAAG16 I am really sorry they felt that way
      however, I wouldn't say the people who chant in soccer games are representative of the Spanish population. It is usually ultra sur people who are neonazis. And I am not saying that, they describe themselves as such.
      As far as being singled out in the airport and other places, the clothes you are wearing will unfortunately get you singled out more than the color of your skin. If you want to be stopped by customs when you land in Spain, wear shorts and a NYC baseball cap. Wear your pajamas and they will stop you. They'd stop me too, I promise.
      I think it's a huge generalization. These people you talk about, do they speak Spanish? Just saying this because my American husband who is white but doesn't speak a word in Spanish, think people are singling him out often in Spain, when they are not. He just doesn't understand what people are saying and one thing Spaniards do is we stare. It's a cultural thing. We don't consider it rude. It just is.

      I agree with everything you said. My friends from the airport are not american and don't live there. I do think they know how to dress too. They're decent professional ppl who are accustomed travelling.
      Having ppl discredit or explain away your lived experiences always happens. It's tedious. I think I will visit one day and have my own experience to tell
