Such an awesome method of going about IMO 1+2! This for me sort of bridges the gap between KNF and Dr. Elaine Ingham's methodology of conservatively collecting indigenous material. Awesome video, keep it up!
Many thanks to you. That was an eye opener. I used to think that the only option was to go out in the woods. Now I have learnt you can do it even at home in the Library..!!! Amazing..
It looks like your complete collection was based off the large chunk sat on top. That seemed like your best specimen, with enough organic matter to hold together. Organic matter makes a difference, not just the mycelium seen on the under sides of debris. I think your placement of it on top really elevated the results due to gravity pulling all that life down.
No follow up? Whatd you do with the imo2? 3? Tea? Dang.. you did this video so well i was excited to see the next just be disappointed. I hope all is well, you done a fine jon with thay urban imo collecting!!
Brilliant! I live in the city, too (I'm a neighbor, up in Frisco!), and I've been having trouble getting anything to grow on my rice. And I love the basket idea. I have some rice in a cardboard box right now that I stuck in my compost bin. I'm hoping that will work. I know I've seen fungus and even mushrooms growing in the bin. What do you use for substrate when you go to make the IMO 3? I'm thinking of using ground corncobs? I can get hemp bedding, too. This is for my new quail pen, by the way.
Hey! Sorry for the late response. I must have alerts turned off. Ill work on changing the settings. I looked all over town until i found wheat bran to use as a substrate and then i mixed it with a small percentage municipal wood chip mulch. I actually experimented with different amounts of wood chips to figure out which would produce the biggest fungal bloom. Depending on the type of mulch and the moisture in the air, you will have different results but a little experimentation is always fun. Good luck!
Have you tried to just put a new fresh batch of rice into the basket after one use and see if it will still inoculate it? I assume it would just be a much weaker inoculation if you did but IDK. Can't believe how good that turned out though!
I'm *sure* you could get permission to place a collection. Might be fun to ask at the very least. Just don't ask the person that answers the phone, get ahold of someone who knows what IMO is lol.
The porn music when you find the mycelium at the base of the bamboo had me wetting myself with laughter. Genius.

How do we know this is not the dreaded candida Albicans (thrush)that wreaks havoc in our gut?
love the music
Isn't black mold toxic? Got to be careful with that variety.
A little is s fine. The other organisms will out produce it in the soil. Just don’t breath it.
Fuzz heaven. What are you going to do with it?
