Jamerson was the road bassist for Miracles until 1964 when Motown realised he was too valuable and kept him in the studio with a few exceptions for the remainder of his career with Motown.
This is my favorite out of every Miracles performance I've seen, Smokey put all of his heart and all of his soul into this, I'm not used to seeing him this animated but I love it! The way he went into Bring It On Home to me and switched back was perfect 🎶💖 just wow
@@sabalidann8278 Man you lost your every loving mind / Check out his live duet with Linda Ronstadt or the more recent one at Daryl's House with Daryl Hall , Dude can sing live or in studio this just shows a little more raw sound which I am loving!
So glad I finally found one with Claudette still singing in the group. Hope I can find one with her singing lead next, & SMOKEY IS OUTSTANDING, A BORN LEAD SINGER !!!
Smoky and the Miracles really brought it to the Apollo! A lot of record sales, not just from the audience but word of mouth, if you can crush it on that stage. Pressure's on because there were other acts on the bill trying to do the exact same thing.
Whoa!!! Did you see the double clip at the :50 sec mark???? BAM!! That’s that CLASS!!! Look at the immaculate clothes along with those steps! MAN…are they slick!!! Gosh!!! Come on!!!
Good Lord, I've never seen this! What a powerful performance....just blown away! The choreography is restrained, but evocative, and such lovely well-tailored clothing. A treat to the ears and eyes. Excellent musicians, vocal arrangements and powerful vocals by Smokey. No vulgar twerking, oh the good days when people had class.
It is amazing what this man put into this performance - the definitive one of "You Really Got A Hold On Me" i might add, which, besides his Sam Cooke-Lou Rawls inspired duet with fellow Miracle Bobby Rogers includes the actual song which inspired it ("Bring It On Home To Me") and some nice choreography on the part of The Miracles!
@@NathanAHogan Wow! So, Claudette kinda sorta was filling in although she’s technically a member! And if I remember, she stopped performing in ‘64-‘65 when Pete must’ve reunited with the group.
@@horizontoday7874 She was a full member until several miscarriages forced her to retire in 1964. From then on, it was just Smokey, Ronnie, Bobby and Pete until Smokey left to go solo in 1972. Marv Tarplin went on with Smokey in 72.

@@mr.dawson1988 Thank you so much for sharing that. I didn't know that. It's awesome how great artists can be inspired by other great artists. And we get to enjoy the timeless harvest of music.
This performance makes me think that the reason Smokey so often sang in falsetto or mezza voce is because his full voice doesn't hold up when being pushed.
The Miracles are the quintessential group of Motown stag, power, prolific, songwriting, the backbone of soul music, it’s too bad they broke up at the height of the power. Long live smokin, Bill, and the three that are real from the hill.
I've always heard that the patrons at the Apollo were very demanding. If you did not perform to their expectations, you were booed off of the stage. The Miracles certainly gave them more than their money's worth.
Smokey is trying too hard to stylistically copy and compete with James Brown, Sam Cooke, and Jackie Wilson at this early point in his career. He really became great when he later focused on developing the smooth, melodic qualities of his voice. This is what brought him global stardom (later.) He's not being truly authentic in his performance or his vocal sound, here. #AuthenticityAlwaysWins
I just never realized how great Smokey's voice was. That is some dynamic vocal action.
I loved Smokey before she knew him.
They’re all treasures❤❤❤❤
No lip synching here this is live at the APOLLO THEATER!!!
Motown...what a gift to us all
Born and raised.
Smokey Robinson is one of the hippest artist in the world. Ultimate voice
Still listening 2023 ❤ Too cool 😎✌️❤️🌼
There's no way to express how good this clip is... It's real real real good.!!!🌟🎤🎧
Smokie killed it!!!

Thanks for pointing that out! There are very few video clips of him, to my knowledge. One great one with Marvin Gaye is out there.

Cap given the high notes away saying come on come to the back round singers. Sorry.

Nobody brings it like Smokey Robinson. The ultimate singer, songwriter, showman.
Sam Cooke is better
We feel Smokeys songs and he is awesome!
Smokey figured out love a long time ago.
So cute and put so much into his singer and performance 🌟
Smokey was feelin that performance! LOL

Dang, these cats are awesome.
You can feel their excitement performing at the mecca that was the Apollo.
The performance, the standard by which to compare all other performances.
James Jamerson, bass personified. Wish we could see a better view of him.
The one and only....
One of the best.
TRUE !! GOING TO GET READY FOR WORK TONIGHT ..... PHONE - CALL ... NORTH !!!!!!!
One Sunday morning very early...6ish, looked over to my right on Santa Monica Blvd and there was Smokey in a brown Rolls. Nodded and smiled. ✌🙏
Great song, especially including Sam Cooke’s ending Bring it on Home to me!

Yes,amazing! Great comment
What’s crazy is that he grew up down the street from Aretha Franklin. A lot of talent in one neighborhood.
Smokey, Aretha and Sam Cooke grew up together. All three are fantastic performers.
I think Diana Ross lived in the neighborhood too.
That Was Dope !!!!
SUPER SUPER SUPER SONG
Fantastic ❤️🩹💝❤️🩹💝
He was IN IT!!!!!!!👍🏿 My first time seeing SMOKEY ROBINSON GET LOOSE✔️💯
Live not dubbed. ❤️
My fave is More Love .
Then decades later I really took to his song Crusin
Claudette said Smokey wrote that song More Love for her
Young Claudette was sexy ❤ nice lil shape on her, Smokey was a fool to cheat around on her
Smokey Robinson was one of The World's Greatest Singer and song writer. Wrote some Beautiful songs for my favorite Group The Temptations.
Very rare to see Claudette performing! I wonder where Pete was.
Pete was in the Army at the time. He didn't return back to The Miracles until early 1964.

Smokey sounded hoarse, but I actually liked his voice cracking. Strange, but to me it adds a soulful flavor.
