  • Welcome to another video by Ettevaatust Productions.
In todays video we well be joined by our good friend Random Jones as we explore ancient Argos and Larisa Castle.
Argos, over 5,000 years old is one of the oldest cities on the planet. It was a key player during the Greek classical period and this key city was part of the Roman province of Achaea.
Sacked and besieged by a variety of invaders over the centuries, Argos still survives.
One of the most impressive structures we shall see of ancient Argos is the ancient theater built in the 3rdc BCE with a capacity of 20,000 spectators.
Larisa Castle looms over modern Argos and started out as a fortified acropolis. In the 5th and 6thc BCE the walls were strengthened and repaired from an even earlier structure. During the Byzantine Empire, the castle was one of the most important in the Peloponnese.
The current structures appearance dates back to the mid 13c when it was a Venetian stronghold.
The fortress played a pivotal role during the Greek revolution by holding up Ottoman forces for 15 days.
Join us now on this historical Greek adventure and enjoy!
