Basically this dude has a John Deere 7820 that they bought new back in 2004, and they have been using it ever since to spread lime and manure/fertilizer both on their own farm and while doing contracting work for surrounding farms, and as such the machine has run for over 28 000 hours.
The crane that's mounted on the tractor gets used to scoop up lime/manure and load it into the trailed spreader behind the tractor. They've modified the cab to allow the seat to rotate fully so that you can sit properly and have a proper view while operating the crane. The AC and some computer stuff had to be moved back so that he could fit his legs when facing backwards. The handbrake also had to be moved up to allow the seat to rotate, and the forward/reverse lever was moved from the steering wheel to the side panel so that it could be reached while facing backwards. To drive while facing backwards he just puts the tractor on low speed and moves the shifter to either forward or reverse, and the tractor starts to slowly shuffle along in the chosen direction.
They use wide Trelleborg tires to give the tractor a wider stance and increase stability when operating the crane. Because of the wide tires and the fact that the tractor weighs about 6 metric tons at the rear, the tractor is virtually impossible to tip over. To fit the crane they chose to remove the 3-point lifting arms and simply used many of the freed up bolt holes normally used for the 3-point to secure the crane to the chassis. This has apparently worked very well since they haven't had any trouble with it since they installed it when the tractor was new.
The hitch had to be redesigned since it was normally operated by the 3-point and the hydraulic valves/outlets had to be moved to accomodate the crane. When redesigning the rear of the tractor, they tried to make sure to hide as many components as possible to not obstruct the view from inside the cab, and the guy says he thinks they did a good job with it. The tractor is also fitted with a compressor so that they can use trailers that have air-brakes. At one point they even had a spreader that they hooked up in a way so that every time the handbrake was pulled, the air brake outlet would power a pneumatic grease gun that would automatically grease up all the joints and fittings in the spreader.
The crane itself can lift up to 6 tons, but since the tractor can't deliver enough hydraulic pressure it "only" lifts somewhere between 5 and 6 tons. However since manure usually isn't very heavy this hasn't caused any problems. The only time he really notices it is when doing lime. The crane is normally designed to be fitted to a forestry forwarder but it's been working well. The pincer has been replaced for a heavier-duty one once, and the bucket itself needs to be repaired from time to time as it's prone to wearing and cracking. The bucket fits roughly 500 liters when slightly overfilled.
He also has a small toolbox with steps mounted at the front. The tool box contains grease-guns and spare parts, and the steps are so that he can climb up and reach the GPS unit, which he takes with him every time he leaves the tractor so it doesn't get stolen. He also has a pneumatic outlet with an air gun near the cab so that you can blow off dirt and muck from your clothes before entering the cab, and also to clean out hydraulic outlets when changing implements. He also never wears shoes inside the cab to keep it clean. He says he's obviously a bit attached to the tractor since he's spent so much time working with it, but since it's ran for so many hours and there's significant risk of major breakdowns, he's opted to get a new one for reliability's sake. He plans to keep the old one though and possibly use it alongside the new one in the future when it comes time to buy a new spreader. The only way he sees himself selling it is if he gets a really good offer.
There's also a part 2 to the video, where he shows us the new tractor if you haven't seen it already.
