On the Remington 870 shotgun like you found, the serial number is on the left side of the receiver. Opposite of the ejection port and above the trigger.
i noticed how you are using a truck and rope to tow some heavy items out. Just a suggestion from my old rock climbing days: Take an old garden house and cut it into short sections about a foot to two foot, depending on the situation. Split each section of hose down the length with a sharp cutting tool, and the out it on your rope as a sleeve, positioned at the edge or sharpest bend in the rope. it will reduce friction and protect your rope from wear and tear. You might also benefit from a climbing item called a Jumar. you would attach the Jumar to about 6 to 20 feet of climbing rope or nylon sling, and it would function like a come-along (and allow you to rest between pulls) if you attached it to the bridge or axle of your vehicle.
It's a high probability any firearm found has probably been used in a crime and possibly a murder. I would turn them in to law enforcement with the location where they were found.
If the gun is not able to fire a round when we find it, the police aren't interested in collecting them from us. We were told to just throw them back in the water, believe it or not... so we just keep them as trophies
@@blakecantswim I call BS on that. Serial numbers are very important and can be run in NTC Database. Many of those guns could have been used in local, or federal crimes. It really is important that you turn them in, if local cops don't want to take them that is a dereliction of duty, then I would call County, or state. I have tons of law enforcement in my family and in my circle of friends and they found it odd that the cops said this. Maybe you misunderstood what they were saying. If the gun is obviously broken apart and it is just the furniture that is left then yeah, But if the gun has a readable serial number it should be turned over. They need to be reported no matter what to law enforcement.

The police around here don't care at all and don't even want us here. We have been harassed alot more here lately and are leaving soon. Somebody else can work with them down here bc we are done dealing with the bs
@@blakecantswim that shotgun is illegal without an NFA tax stamp for either an "Any Other Weapon" which is a $5 ATF tax stamp, or a "Short Barrel Shotgun, which is a $200 ATF tax stamp. The ATF doesn't care what the local police told you, and will come shoot your dog if they think you have an unregistered NFA device. If the barrel is shorter than 18 inches for shotgun, or 16 inches for rifle, it's an NFA device. The local police should know that, and the legal jeopardy of even the accidental possession of an unregistered NFA device.

I was boating on Lake Norman a few years back, saw something bobbing around just under the surface....it was a water heater.....towed it to the bank and left it.
This makes me wanna go magnet fishing but we're I am it Is so cold rn, so much so that the river is somewhat freezed up, had a good year for magnet fishing though... Found stolen wallet, 200$copper wire, a couple hundred dollars worth of train track equipment with tons of other things... I say I made up for losses of the past, lost a magnet, claw and a friend lost a magnet to, so hopefully it should repay everything.. :D
I'm legal and we know the process as far as handling and turning over these guns. We work with the local police all the time so it's no big deal posting it. We know what we can and can't show
