Is the damage on the tires ok? I have very similar scraped tires but I figured it just removed the tread on the edges

Is it possible the left is being cut by the small body to bumper tab at the rear of the arch?

It is possible. it varies on different cars, but in this case the tires were rubbing more on the arch facing towards the front.
