One of the BEST interviews I have ever watched between two musicians being 100% honest and open about what it's really like being a musician. I've been doing it for 35 years and constantly get asked, why don't you give it up and get a better paying job? My answer is always, I'd rather die happy doing what I love than rich doing anything else. Great video guys!
Love the conversation about "ripping off" at 45 minutes Josh and Joey you're in good company I remember Eric Clapton talking about being on stage with Buddy Guy and BG telling him "man that's a good lick" EC replied "thanks, I heard you play it in 65"
Great interview guys. I recently heard about the Bros Landreth, checked them out and really liked them. Then I discovered they were from Winnipeg. I used to live there. One of the greatest musical towns in Canada, IMHO. Then I discovered who their Dad was. I used to see him at the Blues jam every Saturday at the West End Cultural Centre (back in the 90's). Full circle stuff :-)
Josh great interview. I'd seen an interview with Joey a few months back but it had nowhere near the depth of feeling and level of honesty that you were able to bring out of the man. Really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Outstanding interview, Josh! I love how honest and humble both of you are. Joey’s talk about mental health really touched me. I’ve played guitar for 20 years and taught music for 12 years, but even though I have a lot of knowledge of the instrument and am proud of my growth, taking compliments is the hardest thing for me.
Great interview - was surprised to hear Joey say that he was struggling and questioning whether he wanted to keep playing music.. but I love the honesty and it makes it very real for those of us who admire what they do and assume it comes easy to them. One reason I didn’t pursue music was I knew I didn’t love it enough to sacrifice not be able to pay rent or buy food, and that’s when I knew it’s not the career for me. Guys like Josh and for a lot of other musicians, there really is no other choice in their minds and that’s when you’ve got a better chance at making a career of it - versatility is the key now!
JS hit the nail on the head when he said it's just awesome to learn that little bit more every day....that's when you feel good when you are getting pretty good and have put in the effort and it's really enjoyable to play...just stick at it and it rewards you.
Man, what a fantastic conversation! Also, I am stunned at the fact that there's so many people out there who would have the nerve to criticize these two players. Both are complete monsters, and have their own beautiful voices.
Another fantastic interview, Josh. Joey is someone I stumbled into via the Andertons and have been loving ever since. You do such a great job of providing space, allowing your guests to settle in and get comfortable while driving the conversations in a meaningful way. Thanks for these.
Loving this series, Josh! Very interesting insight into Joey's career before the Bros. Landreth, great interview! I know the guy is not a guitar player (okay, he actually is), but i'd really love to see an interview with Travis Toy, who is just such an awesome player.
hahahaha, me too! I was an AC15 guy for years; i had three, and it was the only amp i played. One day i woke up, and couldn't find a tone in any of them. Literally grew out of the sound overnight. Not sure i'd prefer a direct tone, but hilarious none the less!
What a great interview and with a wonderful and humble artist ! I was surprised Josh didn't ask about the choice of Joey playing in Open C Tuning almost exclusively if I'm not mistaken. Kudos to Joey for digging in the huge influence on Ry's music Joseph Spence is definetely an alien
Josh, thank you so much for these interviews. Yourself, Joey and Ariel completely reignited my enjoyment of guitar and music in general a few years ago when I was running out of love for it. Really empathise and relate to a lot of the stuff you’ve been talking about in these interviews and they’ve all been a joy to listen to. Take care and stay safe.
I've been waiting for this one. You two are probably my two biggest influences for inspiring my guitar play, practicing harder and digging deep into new styles of music and influences. I feel lucky to have seen you both play multiple times and look forward to doing so again soon. Keep the great content coming.
I love the argument of "so and so ripping off so and so". We celebrate our origins in our music, to avoid using language from other music is almost absurd.
It would be amazing to have Derek Trucks in one of these interviews!
I second that motion!
Amen!! Especially since him and josh grew up together! That would be a great interview

The two dudes that consistently put me in awe. 👏👏👏
Finally!! A guitar player who actually knows how to conduct an interview with another guitar player!! Great questions Josh!! Thank you!!

Hello from New Brunswick,Canada...love yer 🎸playin', both fellas. Thx
This is going to be an hour well spent! 🤘🏼
Josh great interview. I'd seen an interview with Joey a few months back but it had nowhere near the depth of feeling and level of honesty that you were able to bring out of the man. Really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Joey is one of my very favorite musicians. So soulful and deeply musical.
Very down to earth dude.

What a cool and comfy set up at Joey's house. I love that all the pedals are out and displayed.

I’m happy successful ppl continue to be honest about wrestling with themselves and their demons. It’s refreshing and hopeful! Thanks Joey

two of my favorite Musicians. Would love to hear you both together on something!
This convo about business and determining how to make business decisions is so applicable across any field for an entrepreneur.
Damn fine interview. Thanks to both.
Two of the most genuine dudes. And both *monster* players.
Much love & appreciation from a random fan in Scotland! :)
There's some strong mustache game going on in this video. Nice discussion/interview. It's always fun to hear Joey.
Well this started my Sunday morning off perfectly 👊🏼
Such an honest inside look behind the scenes look at hard working musicians. Respect to both you guys!
Both of you are just great! I really enjoyed the interview. Thanks for sharing this.
Love your playing Josh, love this channel, and being from Canada...love this interview! Joey is fantastic! You both are!!!
Some good, real talk on this one.

Many thanks Josh a great interview.

Pre-papa Landreth. Now full-bearded dad. Great interview.
Plus Joey Is a great guys in person. Haven't has the honor of going to support and see a show with Josh yet but its on my bucket list :)
“I’d rather fu$&ing go direct”- I laughed way to hard at that!
hahahaha, me too! I was an AC15 guy for years; i had three, and it was the only amp i played. One day i woke up, and couldn't find a tone in any of them. Literally grew out of the sound overnight. Not sure i'd prefer a direct tone, but hilarious none the less!
Loving these Josh. Hope you're well man.
Joey you better still come to Boston !
So true! I discovered Josh thanks yo Joey and that pedal show. True guitar heroes.
Joey, you are an amazing musician, singer, and songwriter. You also look like Steve Zissou with that hat.
So, should we call him Kingsley?
What a great interview and with a wonderful and humble artist ! I was surprised Josh didn't ask about the choice of Joey playing in Open C Tuning almost exclusively if I'm not mistaken. Kudos to Joey for digging in the huge influence on Ry's music Joseph Spence is definetely an alien

You know Joey's Canadian when he says "grade 8" (the correct way) instead of 8th grade. -- A Canadian Living in the US
hell yeah, ariel, aj and now joey
derek trucks next? :) thanks for doing these interviews 🙏🏾
Monsters here lads and dolls. Absolute monsters.
nice looking C3 in Joey's background
Ah the gig Josh addressed could be Eros Ramazotti. A big number here in Europe.
I love the argument of "so and so ripping off so and so". We celebrate our origins in our music, to avoid using language from other music is almost absurd.
FUCK YES BARRY HARRIS! I've been on a massive BH kick this month. He's brilliant.
These are great interviews Josh. How come you guys always hold guitars ?
Haven't been this early since last night.
Hey Josh you should interview some female guitar players (Lari Basilio, Maddie Rice etc)
Where’s the Ibanez?
Yep
@@JoshSmithGuitar Glad to see the Chapin again ;-)
You got a gift born with it.🎵🎶🤍🎶🌷🇺🇸❤️
What's better about Joey than his guitar playing and music???? Correct, his beard ;-)
Donny Hathaway live is my one of my favorite albums ever, solid choice Joey.
Like as in sonny landreth
no relation, but Joey is also a fantastic slide player
Actually, distant relations.
@@jimwillcox9431 I listened to an interview with Joey last year and I swear on my life he said it was pure coincidence.
All you Rulers are Measured lol.
