Apologies for my lack of Ukrainian, I do intend to learn the language. I hope my English translates well enough. I just wanted to say that it’s important to remember that numbers are not what changes the battlefield. 500 professionally trained soldiers are far more effective and valuable than 5000 not. I’m not even British, but it’s well known that the British have the best trained armed forces in the world. Here in the US the British are the only foreign force that actively participate in the training of American soldiers. We welcome them with open arms, they are specialists in what they do. War and success in war is Great Britain’s language, and more pertinently, doing so while outnumbered. Ukrainian recruits are in good hands and the time spent training with the British will-and already has-paid off. A large number of troops used in the Kharkiv counter-offensive had just returned from their training in Great Britain. Great Britain knows better than any nation how to be a potent force, victorious and revered with less man power than an adversary. Their rich history of success in war and global influence is a prime example of that. Ukraine could not ask for better mentors. A close friend of mine was a US marine and holds the British in the highest regard. While he was on tour in Afghanistan his platoon commander was critically injured and unable to move from his position. As my friend told me, they all fell into disarray, not sure what to do. A group of British soldiers not far away heard their radio calls for assistance and they quickly came to provide support. The British lieutenant passed command to an NCO and he took charge of my friend’s platoon. He then not only managed to get the platoon commander to safety but directed and led the entire platoon of US marines out from under heavy fire. He said if it wasn’t for him they wouldn’t have all made it out, if any at all. The calm, professional attitude of British soldiers and their extensive training and experience made the difference. Every Ukrainian trained in Great Britain brings it back home with them to pass on to others. Ukraine is in the process of harnessing an incredibly potent and professional fighting force, adopting the mindset and tactics of the best trained armed forces in the world. Even the Russians have admitted such about the British. This training and Ukraine’s success on the battlefield, vastly outmanned, is only adding to the nerves the Russians already have. Not to mention, the Ukrainian special forces are continually being trained by the British, the father’s of modern special forces-considered the best of the best. Most recently, that training focused on French resistance tactics, infiltrating behind enemy lines and sabotage. The sorts of tactics required to, say, blow up a bridge in Crimea 🙂
