Here is yet another example of Bach showing himself to be the most euphoric of all composers. From the time my older son was about four, he has enjoyed watching me play this prelude and he calls it 'the happy one'. This prelude and fugue were amongst the first pieces I learnt from Book One when I was a teenager. I remember the joy of playing it then, and this joy has only intensified over the years during my concert performances. During my University studies, one of the professors remarked that he didn't think that any performers subjectively felt emotion when playing, as it would cause them to lose control. This is complete nonsense, and it was only a reflection of his own lack of ability. We should all be emotionally moved by what we play, otherwise we should not play at all. Agreed? Brillant comme toujours, mais plein de finesse, de beauté, d'énergie! (Trudelies)
