GREAT COLLABORATION RYANS. We've had a couple of inches of rain in the last couple of days so our lawn is still green at this point. GREAT ADVICE regarding the humidity/temperature connection. Thanks for sharing.
Great points!! MOST of my clients lawn issues are that they rely too heavily on the in ground irrigation system. Usually the coverage is wrong or the stream baffle isn’t engaged and it’s shooting a single squirt gun type stream of water across the lawn instead of over the lawn. Or they have the sprinklers hitting plants or trees. So I usually sell them a tree pruning to provide sun lanes so that the yard gets nice peeks of sun as it moves across the sky.
I hope the turfcast seriers takes off. This was one of the most informative 50 min i ever spent on youtube LOL. Please keep this series going! I loved every minute of it!
This was amazing! I LOVE learning about the science of it all and he definitely has a great way of explaining key ideas in a simplified manner to get a noob like myself into it. Time fore some additional research on my part! That's Ryan's²!
What a great video! I'm in Southwest Idaho, and thought it was time got get my head around my lawn care, it's nice to know even though I have a sprinkler system it's okay to pull out the hose and spot water. Ryan I have the same issues around my driveway. thanks again guys!
Back to back weeks of mid 90's here in NJ. Trying to keep watering deep but not everyday. Was 82 degrees with 97% humidity here this morning (FUNGUS ALERT)!
Is there a practical way to increase food production during the heat? Should you load up on growth during spring like a camel loads up on water? What are the pro methods for keeping it green all summer?
I feel like there wasn't a solid answer on what to apply when turf is stressed (aside from watering properly, applying small amounts of product, and understanding that this is natural for cool season grass to be stressed with this kind of heat). Would it be beneficial to apply a small amount of milorganite to feed the lawn a bit, and maybe a small amount of ironite for additional iron to help things green up? The graph example was great with explaining what the grass goes through with temps!
That was really the point of the discussion when Ryan said "you can't spray or spread your way out of this" It starts with prep work in fall for the next season and takes time to build your lawns health.
woof 359 , From another source, LCN, put down 1/2” a week to keep the grass crowns alive. It won’t bring it out of dormancy but it’s supposed to help keep crowns alive, as well as keep the soil micros going instead of having everything die off.
Hey Ryan, I have what appears to be goosegrass but it's vertical. I was trying to cut my grass shorter this year as well, about 2.5 inches, and something just took over once it got above 85 degrees. Any advice to get rid of it? My normal crabgrass killer does not work on it.
Hey Ryan, pretty new to this and would love some feedback on my grass. i have tall fescue i grew in march and looked great! now in the summer in southern california about 90 everyday no rain and about 65-70 at night, what can i do
If potassium levels were ideal in Spring, then how much could you apply in Summer without over doing it? Or, should you leave it alone? How much is too much?
This is a really good informative video. Me being in Michigan with cool season grass, it’s nice to get all of these tips from a professional. Thanks again Ryan and Ryan. 👍
Hey Ryan - long time listener, first time commenting. As a recent home buyer, I just want to say I love your videos. Anyways, on the topic of summer heat. I live in twin cities metro area (go vikes). Our builder put down new sod really late in the fall last year and this year has been a struggle. I’ve been trying to maintain a healthy water schedule With irrigation and I also put down Scott’s turf builder before summer...but it’s really showing a lot of stress. Is it okay to put down something like Scott’s summer guard in this kind of heat, or should I just ride it out until the heat breaks?
I would honestly probably say to just try to dial in your watering and then prepare for fall with cooler weather and a much more ideal time for care. New sod is tough. We will cover this in an upcoming episode for sure
Ryan thanks for your videos love them, have a question I received my soil test back my soil is low on N and K but I can take care of that but the soil is low on Micronutrients and high on ph and have hard clay about 4" down what would you recommended Thanks and H ave a Great Day.Scott.
I really liked how OH Ryan said that Labor Day is the starting point for the season 20/21 in this case! I am planning my fall right now for some over seeding and some small renovation areas. I am a little inpatient in that I want my dead spots and thin spots to be full and lush! The work this fall will pay dividends come spring!!
90+ for the last 4 days here in RI my Grass is still green and doing good. Mowing tall goes a long way without in ground sprinklers. My neighbors still haven't caught on yet they keep cutting their crabgrass at once inch.
This time of season is a stumbling point for many of us regarding topics discussed in this video and determining best water management. Sometimes less is best. Would like seeing humidity/dew point guidelines suggesting what action to take. Soil/temp probes are a must. Thanks for going beyond the basics. It's a daily balancing act. ~ mike
Thats why in the past I had asked you about if you wear 100%polyster shirts. Because they are more comfortable than cotton shirts in warm weather. Other issues do you ever get ailments once in awhile? I have gout right now on my right wrist and cant work on my garden.
Ryan get a flow meter for your Hydrawise system. Will tell you GPM per zone. Also you MP nozzles have specific GPMs chart can be found on their website. Hunter does have soil moisture sensor. Hope that helps Take care
Been following the basic lawn care guide, but in the space of 2 weeks my lawn went from green to depressing yellow. Sandy soil, with hot, dry, windy conditions. My neighbor has an emerald lawn and I'm dying here.
Hey Ryan, so I live in Gilbert, AZ. My bermuda is struggling because the average temps are 108 during the day and high 80's low 90's overnight. The humidity is never over 10%. I water at 4:30am, 8:30am then later at 6pm. Should I syringe a few time during the middle of day when the temps are close to 110? I would appreciate the recommendations. Thank you.
My lawn continues to fill in over the years and following a regimen. My back yard has no shade and two dogs. I lose about a third of the lawn from late June through August no matter how much I water and stay on top of the dog urine. Live in VA so heavy clay soil, lots of gypsum and consistent watering doesn’t save this area every year. We didn’t get rain for pretty much all of July and 100 degree temps lately. Had some fungus as usual and did a fungucide in May as well as a sea kelp/humid acid treatment in late May and late June, still losing this area of backyard. What do you suggest as I’m not interested in planting trees for shade. This is a fescue lawn
We will try to touch on heavy clay soil and strategies in a future episode. Right now it sounds like you are sort of at the maximum the plant can really handle.
Hi Ryan, I have cold season KBG and applied pre-emgerent in the spring and it worked well, now mid-summer and super hot summer, I am seeing alot of crab grass develop? was I supposed to apply another pre-emergent mid/late summer? I thought it was to be applied fall ?
Most of the time the best course of action is a split application...one in early spring and then one around soil temps of 70 so that takes you all the way through the summer months
Hi Ryan great videos well explained keep it up, I have a question what would you recommend a push mower or self propelled I'm thinking of getting a reel mower does it matter what size lawn you have my biggest lawn is approximately 11 metres by 5 metres thanks if you can help
Instant credit just for recording this in your I'm sure extremely hot shed! Unfortunately Browns vs Vikings preseason is cancelled, lets hope we at least get a season at this point! We're very excited to have Stefanski here!
Where should I be sourcing grass seed from? I usually buy from a local farmer's co-op that provides a superior mix to what is available at most homestores in the area, but where else should I be looking?
I’ve learned that it’s important to soil test every area of my turf lawn. This video is conformation. With some added bonuses. Really recommend having more videos with turf lawn professionals. A lot of good information moving forward with my turf lawn.
Samuel Asamoah I’m not sure what your question is? If your talking about soil testing. When the soil is favorable. Meaning softer. I use a soil probe. I pull five or six healthy samples from different parts of my turf. Making sure that I’m spread out. I then labels the bags from where I’m pulling from. Then I either drop them off at my local extension office or mail them in. I hope this helps.
Keep the podcast coming! I love putting my headphones on and doing lawn care
Never thought of this, may try! 100% of the time it's music for me.
This 100%! I exhausted all the podcasts on my last road trip. Keep em coming.
Never thought to do this instead of music will try this, this weekend for the first pod cast!
GREAT COLLABORATION RYANS. We've had a couple of inches of rain in the last couple of days so our lawn is still green at this point. GREAT ADVICE regarding the humidity/temperature connection. Thanks for sharing.
Please have him on more often if possible. This was great! Thank you.
Love these PodCast type videos. with you and the LCN doing your thing, I am much more confident in taking care of my lawn. cheers from Aurora Colorado
Best insight I've heard about the topic. It's been such a struggle this year. Awesome work man!

More coming soon
Is there a practical way to increase food production during the heat? Should you load up on growth during spring like a camel loads up on water? What are the pro methods for keeping it green all summer?
The fall is the key time for building the turf for next season

Great video! Get Ryan to discuss field capacity some time!
Do we have to Overseed once or twice in the fall 4 weeks after the first?
Is there a Link to "sports turf king"
Ryan just realised you had a podcast, will this be apart of it? I dont have an hour to watch but podcast are pefect while i work.
Yes I will be uploading very soon and more episodes coming as well
does it really do any good to water the lawn unless your committed and can afford to use hundreds of gallon's ?

needs a little less than 1/2" a week...it can usually go 2-3 weeks

I never realized that turf managers got such a sweet corner office with a view like that. 😒
Since he’s from Ohio, you have to call him THE Sports Turf King
This is true

Is it bad that I just put a bag of ice on my lawn 2 days ago?
I mean that in a "may be a little nutty" kind of way
In my defense the cooler was full. I didnt buy it specifically for the lawn

Great info, Ryan! This has provided me a lot of things to think about when dealing with Summer stressed turf! Thanks
Wow y’all are very easy to understand at 2x speed! Wish there was a 3x...
Why is that?

Nate Kincaid I was waiting! 🤣🤣👊👊👊
Great conversation, above all the knowledge, he seems like such a great guy. Let's make this a regular segment!!
this episode should have been called Hot Take!
Love the straight lines on the aerial drone shots! Like you’ve always said, when you seed, it pours! Good luck!
Interesting, didn't know about wetting agents. Makes sense about loss during normal windy days vs hot.
This was a killer podcast for cool season lawns. Should be a monthly session or before each new season, great back and forth + very informative
More to come
Excellent Turfcast 👊
Science !
Not first. Nice to see the sports turf king on your channel.
Yes it is...More to come!
Ryan how long does it usually take you to mow your lawn?
If potassium levels were ideal in Spring, then how much could you apply in Summer without over doing it? Or, should you leave it alone? How much is too much?
Great question for a follow up on the next episode
I....miss......summer !

Great episode! Ryan, can you have Ryan back on asap and talk warm season / alpha Bermuda? That would be amazing!
Will you save me endless hours of research and tell me the best type/brand of True Foliar & Slow Release Nitrogen?
Great info! Thanks for putting this together
Very nice video! I support you.😉🔔🔔
Great Collaboration, lots of knowledge with excellent information! thank you! @samgreenlawn
Great podcast. I was listening as I mowed and continued to water my lawn as it holds on in the 95+ dry Denver heat.
I would love for this to become a routine podcast with deeper dives into specific topics. Very informative!
Wow! I just got a MBA on turf grass, what a knowledgeable guy! I’m not too far, I’m in NKY.
I'm watching your videos and picking your brains on lawn care. Thanks guys!
Ohio State Turf Management was all I had to hear. Excellent program.
Hey, I might know that guy! Awesome knowledge here! Big ups.
Great video. Looking forward to more Ryan & Ryan !!

Great Vidya Gents. Keep it growing.
Dallisgrass in fescue. How to kill it?
It’s all about the temperature
Good video! Thanks Ryan.
Go Buckeyes!
Yo i love the turfcast!
Super helpful!!
I’m wondering what the cutoff is for “high humidity”? This was mentioned quite a bit but no numbers given. Anything over 60%?
I'm looking more at dew points and 70 is starting to get tropical
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care makes sense. So the theory is once the dew point gets higher less water is needed at the root zone?
I’ve learned that it’s important to soil test every area of my turf lawn. This video is conformation. With some added bonuses. Really recommend having more videos with turf lawn professionals. A lot of good information moving forward with my turf lawn.
