Nu är det dags att du tittar på en av Sveriges mest produktiva låtskrivare nämligen Owe Thörnqvist. Lite låttitlar: Dagny, Varmkorvboogie, Dansa rumba i Engelska parken.

This song is also included in ”När vi gräver guld i USA” in the lyrics: ”Flickorna har blommor i sitt hår… Där står alla pojkarna på rad (song by Orup)… tillsammans är vi Oslagbara (song by Niklas Strömstedt)”

Anders Glenmark is the one singing the chorus on One Night In Bangkok from Chess. Murray Head does the "rap"-parts. A big hit around the world. Listen to it and you will recognise the voice.

Anders Glenmark is so talanted. He's the producer of albums with a lot of swedish artists, for example Eva Dahlgren and Orup. You can actually hear when he's involved in a song, I think.

Yes, extremely talented and yet so humble. He produced Magnus Uggla and Ted Gärdestad as well. Orup and Strömstedt both say that when it comes to the musical parts, production and arrangement, Anders is the one who has the last word, no question what so ever.
He also sang on the Chess-album in the 80s and is the leading voice in the chorus of the world hit One Night in Bangkok. I heard him sing the whole part of the American chessplayer in a concert version of Chess in the beginning of the 90s, he did it SO well!

New Subscriber here! I two am a black American. I used to live in Sweden. Your Swedish is very very good for an American because our accents are very Texan- you can’t hide that shit. I’m about to check out both your podcasts as I miss my Swedish culture here in the US, specifically the Midwest.

You should prob also check out Gemini - Mio min mio - which prob is Anders most successful song (international success - even if he mostly doing the backup vocals in that one). Gemini is the name of the duo/group he and his twin sister Karin founded in the 80’s.

React to "Kall som is" a song he sang with his sister Karin in mello 1984, they had a group called Gemini. Also check out her singing Mio min Mio.

Om du menar ”Då står pojkarna på rad” så är det en solo-release av Orup från 1989 (långt före GES). Dock en riktig svensk klassiker.

I agree with the next commentator, that you have to react to Owe Thörnqvist, the man who intruduced rock sung in Swedish. He was also a pioneer in stand-up comedy here in Sweden. And he is still active in the age of 93! In 2017 he became the oldest pareticipant ever in Melodifestivalen with his "Boogiman Blues", and succeeded to get it to the finale. He had is breakthrough as a rock singer before Elvis Presley and Bill Haley. Start to reacvt to his rock hit "Dagny" from 1958. It's mentioned in the book "Tusen svenska klassiker", which you refered to. He performed "Dagny" publicly as late as in 2019, when he was 90 years old, at "Allsång på Skansen" in TV (see UA-cam), but you should react to his original version from 1958.

It was originally written in English with the title ”She has flowers in her hair”! Even though he didnt write the main lyric (which was written by Leif Käck). But it was originally inspired by Anders wife Birgitta.
Another fun fact: He plays ALL of the instrument on this track including all of the vocals!!

I remembered this song from the very twilight of the cold war. If someone reading this and thing "Well the cold war ended in 1989, this song is from 1990"
Nopp, this is not really how it happened. Berlin wall fall in 1989, and east Germany effectively just sized to exist the very next day. The countries fell one by one after that. With the closte by countries in fairly breaf order and the baltic states in march of 1990 but the lastest to fall (USSR and Yougoslavia) didn´t do so until 1991 (and the later in a bloody war lasted for half a decade, and well effectively Belarus is still living the cold war, yes, there is one communist nation left, and everybody just seam to forgot about it).
Anyway the fall of the cold war was very slow in the beginning and prior to November of 1989 nothing much happen. In 1989 we booked a vacation to the then communist Poland anyway when we finaly went there in early 1990 the become market economy really freaking quick. How quick... well the hotel have installed MTV. The thing is, that there never was one MTV channel. There was a american, there was a British and a "north European". Northern Europe was really Scandinavia. While the program was broadcast from UK, it was specially tailored to the Scandinavian audience with quite a few both Swedish and Danish songs aired.
The thing is, there wasn´t a Central european at this point. Of cause. The eastern part of Central Europe was communist until just weeks prior, Germany (and also Austria) as well as France just did´t watch English programs, and the UK satellite was to far away from Poland to get a good reception. So they tuned in on the North european MTV.. Wired up it to the hotel TV system and we would watch MTV playing "Blommor is sit hår" pretty much non stop in a very recent communist Poland with still USSR being really just a few hundred km away
