I recently finished at walking stick from an osage branch. I used an angle grinder with a 80 grit disc to get the rough shape, works pretty well. Thanks for sharing, nice walking stick.
I noticed the bug dust coming from the blank. I have a lot of Osage that has insect damages and was wondering what to do with it, now I know. Great video brother! Subbed Edit:, an old friend told me the holes are made by a wood wasp. The eggs are in the bark already when you cut it. He told me to remove the bark when it's cut and ,no more larvae.
@@olebuckranch2782 not very desired if making a bow though. The holes do give it character. I will be making some of these sticks from my supply. Thanks for idea!
Really enjoy your videos! I have been driving by an Osage Orange tree here in OK for a few years now and always wanted to stop and get a blank to make a walking stick for me and my sons and daughter, but never have. We enjoy hiking a lot. So, tonight I thought I would see if there was anybody on youtube showing how to do this and what a find to see you showing the process and detail you go through in making your canes and walking sticks. I appreciate you taking the time! You have motivated me! I will definitely be going by and getting a blank this weekend and letting it start to dry. Hopefully getting one in the summer won't be a mistake. If so, I will get one this winter. I don't have a draw knife so will have to find one before I finish the drying process. One question I have for you is how long do you wait in between coats of the Burt's Beeswax? Thanks again!
thanks for watching...I apologize for the delayed reply. Did you make the Osage walking stick? I will put on several coats of BBs wait a few hours them several more coats...I do this five or six times, then every few months as needed.
really enjoy your video. I really like the Osage Orange wood, and have been thinking about making a walking stick with it myself. It seems it is really hard to find a suitable blank. If you know of any source that sells such blanks, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know.

Awesome job thank you for sharing
Nice self defense weapon too.
Good morning sir, do you let the wood dry over time? If so what do you use to seal the ends ?? Thank you
That look like a good walking stick and noggin nocker.

The bugs do get in them if the blank sits for awhile...I like the bug holes...gives the finished staff character. Thx for watching.

It's pretty come here in Northeast KS. The challenge is find a blank the right thickness and fairly straight. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the comment...unfortunately I don't know anyone that sells hedge wood.
Where can i find that tree in the wild in san antonio tx, love to find me some sticks for me own walking sticks
They are common in the Midwest...and in some places in the South...not sure about Central Texas though.
Rafael, they grow a lot here in texas, but you can do the same with mesquite. It's all over your area.
Do you sell the Osage walking sticks by chance? I've been looking everywhere for one
I've never sold any...I only make one or two a year and it takes so much effort to make them I don't have the heart to sell them.
@@olebuckranch2782 I can understand why, they're beautiful. If you ever do decide to please let me know
