Stephanie, are there wings attached to your fingers? Your hands are simply flying on the keyboard. I love you soooo much!! And dear and funny Paolo too!!
A huge inspiration to know this is even possible. Incredible, how you don’t seem to be looking at your right hand at all through such complex and high tempo movements.
Love this. Stephanie: you should do your own stride arrangement of a classical melody and make a video about the process. I would also love to hear you playing some of those fantastic pieces by Clement Doucet. Thanks to you and Paolo for this new channel. I look forward to what you guys have in store.
Absolutely great. The fingers were so fast that I had to check my settings to see if I had sped up the playback speed. Nope - was set at normal. How you do that without mistakes is beyond me. Great job!
So this is one of your old favorites. That's cool! (Just saw a post from 10 years ago.) You've gotten better, of course. So we need to get this channel up to the viewership that other channels have of your performances.
In 1949 Swedish pianist Charlie Norman came out with a boogie woogie version of Anitra's Dance. This caused a big legal stir and protest from the Norwegian Grieg Foundation and the record had to be withdrawn. The record had already been sold in 10 000 copies however and the boogie woogie version quickly became very popular. More than 20 years later I was able to buy this version as part of an LP record with many other nice pieces by Charlie Norman.
@@StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi And I am of course curious about Your boogie woogie version of it... (I have heard Paolo explain that all Americans can play boogie woogie....) I can add that after the stir in 1949... - in the 1950-1960:ies, the boogie woogie version of Anitra's dance often was requested to be played on the few Swedish radio channels we had back then.
@@StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi Good luck with your channel! I have subscribed. The great Charlie Norman passed in 2005. In his late years he played a lot with another Swedish pianist, Robert Wells. Robert always asked Charlie to teach him his version of Anitras dance, but they never got around to do it. Finally Robert wrote it down note by note from the record by him self and included it in his repertoire, as is show in this clip. ua-cam.com/video/evE3YN4BAN4/v-deo.html
@@calbackk Thank You Christer - didn't know about this Robert Wells version. Great stuff! Must have been a lot of work to write that down (or are computers doing some of that nowadays?).
Stephanie and Paolo,You continue to enthrall and inspire....I was lucky enough to meet you at Botany Bay Jazz Club(Great Britain) in 2015 and Pizza Express(Soho,London) in 2018. Roger Kent
Thank you so much, Roger! We hope to see you again soon! We are planning on coming to the UK in May (London) and July (London and Edinburgh) this year if everything works out!
Thanks for the new channel! I grew up in the 1950s-60s in a little Pentecostal church in northern Indiana, but our pianist (the pastor's wife) had come up in the Florida honky-tonks of the 1920s-30s, and she could stride with the best, so I grew up loving stride piano, altho I didn't know what it was until about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, my parents started me on accordion (which I still play), and when I switched to piano, my left-hand technique wasn't up to what I really wanted to play. It still isn't. If I could start over, it would be strictly on piano, and I would major in stride. Meanwhile, I can watch your videos.
Hello from England. I enjoyed that. I have seen a lot of your videos on UA-cam over the past few years and I like to watch your solos as well as the duos that you and Paolo do. I have wondered whether in your spare time, do you ever play straight classical piano for fun? If so, which are you favourite composers. (Obviously Grieg)
Thanks so much for your comment! In the past few years there wasn’t much time to play classical but in the first part of lockdown last year I had some time to do that. I love classical music, some of my favorite composers are Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Schubert, Debussy...the list could go on! I love listening to classical music.
@@StephanieTrickPaoloAlderighi That's a pretty comprehensive list Stephanie! I never got very far with piano lessons as a child, but my favourites are Liszt Liebestraum and Debussy Clair de Lune. Both of these will make me stop in my tracks and totally absorb me.
Been listening to you two for years...used to listen to your first album together on Spotify constantly and seen many performances on UA-cam...but this channel format is actually the most enjoyable...for instance, listening to the piece is impressive, sounds difficult to perform. Then to actually see the performance with the camera cuts...whoa, it looks even harder to perform...and you're smiling the whole time like it's as easy as pouring a cup of coffee? Genius to come up with this format to not only showcase your talents, but bring a lot of joy during this lockdown.
Thank you for this comment, it's so kind of you! Glad that you are enjoying the new channel! Paolo and I are really excited about it and look forward to posting more videos every month!
No reason to praise Donald Lambert after hearing this version. I know someone else who has a special talent for turning a classical melody ... in to a stride masterpiece.

Dank je wel Stephanie, dit leer je net zomaar maar daar moet je voor geboren zijn en is ongelooflijk knap. Dank je wel !!!
Good Lord that's great ! James P. Johnson is smiling from above.

So very special
wow, that was smokin'!
Beautiful performance!!! I am looking forward to see you in concert
Thank you so much!
Wonderful.
Classical music as it *should* be played.
... as it CAN be played. There's more than one way, and there shouldn't be a "should" or "must" on how to play it.
Encore! More! Encore! More! Encore!!!
Crazy
wonderfull!
Mind blowing. Wonderful.
Thank you so much!
SUPERB

Not so much "striding" as doing a 3-minute mile! I don't think I could drive my left hand like that. Phew!
