I went to the web-site of core knowledge and read about it. I found that Kindergarten WriteSteps will fit very nicely.
Our K lessons use a sound card and emphasize phonics and “stretching out words” in order to spell them. In WriteSteps the students start right out using whatever sounds they know. Therefore, you would be able to present your phonics focus skill in your Language Arts lesson and then be able to repeat it in your writing lesson. In other words, you could tie the two very well.

Your job is great! I´m a dual language teacher from Buenos Aires, Argentina and I´m glad to watch this video and learn a lot from your teaching experience! Thanks! Hernán

I am a K-6 teacher in California, and I was wondering if you had a link to written versions of your lesson plans. Thank you for the video.

This lesson is from the very beginning of the Kindergarten program. If your students come to you knowing their letter sounds and can apply them when spelling, then the sound card can act as a reminder instead of as a daily tool. You will be able to introduce medial and ending sounds sooner than many other Kindergarten teachers.

There is not a video for Sound Card Bingo. The "Bingo" games we suggest are not truly Bingo. Since all students have the same card, they all "win" at the same time. The first time you play, call just the picture names. The next time call the picture and letter. Work your way up to calling the letter and letter sound. Move to the more difficult versions when your students are ready. As you show them how to search their card, emphasize left to right tracking.

This is great, thank you for sharing. It's really helpful. How I find the lesson 1 for more information on Sound Card Bingo?

Thank you so much for your response! I have started using some elements of you approach and I really like it in my classroom. I would like to introduce the sound card next week and I notice you talk about sound card bingo. Is there a link for that video?

I really like this approach and I can see that with progression over time the students will be able to become writers. Our school will be using core knowledge as our reading program. Would I still be able to use this approach in my classroom?

Becoming a teacher is a bad idea. I have been one for many years. Classrooms are only like this one one in a million. I had one that was like this and 30 years of classes that were not. Be careful what you want.

This seems like a remedial method to teaching spelling. What about the children who understand the correlation with letters and letters sound already?

ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) Learning to Read program is much more fun. Short stories and songs reinforce phonics. ACE is NOT COMMON CORE agenda and much more age appropriate.
