Greenacres was originally surrounded by beautiful and extensive gardens covering 16 acres. They were all bulldozed after the house was sold, and the land subdivided, alas. The original pool was huge, and it was bulldozed also.
@@DeflatingAtheism I think the remaining grounds and gardens cover about 6 acres, which is still a good-sized parcel for the area. Pickfair was originally 14 acres, but Mary sold off most of the land over the years. I don't know which is the largest remaining parcel - a Realtor would know that.
Yes and her first name was pronounced Ee Dee. Not Eddie. Long E in both syllables. And Eva Gabor is pronounced Ava (long A) gaBOR, accent on second syllable.
It's not pronounced 'Gets'. That is American. It is spelt Göetz, with an umlaut over the o, and is pronounced 'Gerrrtz'. Don't bastardise the language.
Oh my these homes were and are spectacular in so many ways. Because care of craftsmanship was key! I’m a wood lover so any and all be they built ins or carved. So many wondrous mantels were wood. Speaking from the perspective of a Hollywood born and raised resident, I am profoundly disappointed by this selection. While the premise and labeling proclaims these mansions are literally in the Hollywood (the municipality) district of greater Los Angeles, not one of these selections; I feel compelled to stress not a single one is located within any of Hollywoods boundaries. Both in its early cityhood as well as post 1912 addition to the city of Los Angeles. With preindustrial film ear Hollywood boasting a fantastical number of true mansions and gardens, the fact that they are all left unappreciated and likely unrealized by whomever produced this asides from the AI component, the ignorance of the true history and culture of early Hollywood is my sole takeaway.
Hollywood is a neighborhood, and also a metonym for the American film industry. You’ll notice this video focuses on homes built or purchased by giants of the film business!
Nothing in this video was produced by AI. And indeed, as per the other comment “Old Hollywood” refers primarily to a film era of Hollywood. However, I would love to hear some more about the mansions you are referring to and will do some more research. This seems to have been a popular topic so will be focusing on it more!
I agree. I grew up in Hollywood Hills, there are/were so many wonderful old mansions and homes that IMO were more interesting and beautiful than these and are truly Hollywood.
Location, Location, Location! Property Taxes, Property Taxes, Property Taxes! State Taxes, State Taxes, Taxes! My apologies, I forgot that the wealthy will always have Tax Loopholes because they can hire the BEST attorneys (tax or criminal) that money can buy!
Very nice video and even nicer to see some of old Hollywood still standing. I love anything old Hollywood!
Thanks so much for your comment!!
I LOVE LEARNING ABOUT OLD HOLLYWOOD!!!!
Thank you so much!
Edie Goetz - the owner was Edith Goetz, Edie for short - pronounced Eedy. Your AI has managed to pronounce both her names wrong.
No Ai… I just didn’t know how to pronounce it, sorry
I like that the person dis this. There's few things that are not correct. Spelling and a couple mispronounced names.
Stop using AI. It’s terrible
These mansions, are all beautiful!! "Love The History"!
WOW so NICE😍
Thank you for your support
Woot woot.. I'll take one.
So would I!
WE MUST CONTINUE TO SAVE OLD HOLLYWOOD. FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO LOVE AND ENJOY! AND RESTORE AND PRESERVE.
Thank you!!!
I can appreciate some of the big mansions, but I would prefer a secluded house in the hills with a glittering view of L.A
That sounds beautiful!
My Favorite Harold Lloyd's estate built by No Other but Sumner Spaulding
A very beautiful and interesting one for sure!
Thankfully Marilyn Monroe's home is saved.
Many of these homes interiors have been ruined by the quest for modernism. So sad!
Modernism has its place, but we can’t devalue what these beautiful homes were once

It’s so sad!
Isn’t it still one of the larger parcels of land in Beverly Hills, even after being subdivided? There aren’t many “estate grounds” left in BH!

An interesting video. Btw...it's pronounced Ava Ga-BOR. Thanks!
Thank you
QUESTION: @ 3:55 - Is the photographe an Optical-Elusion???
Hate the property taxes
So true
Couldn't agree more my dear - arseholes won't help me with my tent & gear, just can't get a decent taxi.
Unfortunately you’re missing PickFair
We are dedicating a video on this one soon!
@@oldmoneylives well done
@@oldmoneylivesI came to comment the same thing, but now I am sooo excited
Paul Williams is my favorite architect ❤
He was amazing! Are there anymore you would like us to focus on?
HEARST...not Hurst!
Thanks, we got it wrong! But we’ve learnt for the future
You showed Kate Hepburn's house and Audrey Hepburn's photos?
Thanks for flagging this up! They do sometimes look rather similar
What about Buster Keaton's Italian villa.
Another amazing one for the future!
Goetz..pronounce GETZ..silent O..
Thank you for letting me know!

Thanks
Goetz is pronounced “Gets”
We unfortunately pronounced it in is Germanic original and not it’s American simplified version.

The Hurst Estate was the home of Whitney Houston's movie character in "The Bodyguard."
That’s awesome!!
The pool at Greenacres is new.
Thanks for the info
Much smaller than the original.
@@LaurenceDay-d2p The new pool is massive compared to the original.

The Marilyn Monroe house is the beautiful house the owners want to tear down

Beautiful homes…..annoying narrator. (Is he the illegitimate child of actor James Mason?)
Thank you for the feedback. I am working to improve this.
