My family name is Honaker. My Grandma is from the Finney holler and I remember visiting there every summer as a kid. I love it there playin in the creeks, it's the best memory I have as a kid.
My son moved to Honaker a year ago. Why? I have no clue but he said it's beautiful. That's fine with me. It reminds me of Remington, Virginia where I use to live. I loved that little town.
Just wondering if anyone remembers me or my father, I am Jerry Shaw and my father was Donald. He was the Chief of Police there and in Lebanon for 30 years. He retired in 1985. With the passing of coal our town along with the rest of Appalachia has struggled. Family from around here goes way back before my grandparents can recall generation after generation. I believe there is hope for Appalachia and Honaker. While things may be depressed now it will eventually turn around. My dad, a Joyce and was raised in Richlands, and works at the walmart in Lebanon while my mom whose maiden name is Ball trains to be a pharmacist down in Oakwood. Someday when we get the money my mom and dad will retire on my grandpa's farm up by Big A and long from now I hope to live up there myself. God bless.

Thank you for the kind comment. I still have some of the Christmas cards Frank gave to my father back in the 70's. They are very funny. I was just looking at them a few days ago. Please tell your father I said hello. He knew my mother Gladys too. She passed away in her sleep back on Dec. 29, 2013 at the age of 89. Thanks again, Jerry
