Thanks for this. She is definitely a female pioneer for rock. And she has an amazing story; starting as just another little girl singing country (she was good, like a young Patsy Cline) and then falling into the companionship of Elvis she was encouraged to find her sound.... A very unrealized gem of rock roots. Thanks again!!!!
I found this song from the movie "Only Lovers Left Alive", a really cool movie about a guitar playing vampire, and his hip wife, played by Tilda Swinton. Thanks for the breakdown.
P.S. Robert Crumb, famous underground comic artist, did a card set of early american blues artists, called ,"HEROES OF THE BLUES" Card Set by Robert Crumb, which can still be purchased.
Im as a big a fan of Wanda as anyone else but i notice no one in the comments is paying tribute the guitarist who's part we are learning here, Roy Clark. The guitar tone in this song is one of the best of all time, and the solo is personally one of my favourite ever. if you havent already do yourself a favour and check out some videos of Roy playing, he was a genius
Awesome, thanks. I associate Wanda Jackson most with the belting song Fujiyama Mama, which was a big hit out here in Japan (somewhat surprisingly given politically incorrect Hiroshima bomb references). But my favorite female rockabilly track is Black Cadillac by Joyce Green - worth having a look at too maybe?
Wanda the Queen of Rockabilly

Thank you Scott!
This is about the guitar part tho so we should really pay credit to Roy Clark, an absolute master guitarist in his own right
First came across this in The Only Lovers Left Alive film, great track thanks for the lesson. Like the playing card idea too.
That’s a great film! I remember hearing the track slowed down, it really works !
