It mostly due to the case farmer problem, not about chinese regulations. They are more afraid of Valve taking action against them for ''facilitating'' these farmers profit taking than actual gambling laws. With that said, gambling regulations are coming and cases will definitely take a hit everywhere, not just in China.
Because more cases will be steam based trading instead. Also skinport etc will benefit. Also some cases will now never be sold as some people only use buff. I on the other hand never use buff

Basically what happened was some parent complaint to the government that their kid is spening money on CS2 cases, and it is sort of Gambling and should be banned. some rep from the government went and talk to netease. they weren't pressured into banning cases but for the safty of the company.

If China bans cases, the demand and therefore the price of cases would most likely drop significantly, since China if home to a big part of the community. If buff owns a lot of cases at that time they would just lost a shit ton of money
