    I pay $107 a month just for internet!!! No tv, I cancelled my cable a couple of years ago it was going to over $200 a month. So I went just streaming for about $30 month. I don't miss cable at all. Just got a new cell phone service for $15 a month but you have to pay 6mths in advance to get the lower rate. I live in CA too expensive here. Thanks so much for this I do not budget...shame on me. Everything is on auto pay and I don't even know what my gas & electric bills are until I see my bank statement. I am going to guess if I do this budget I am going to save a lot of money each month. Already saving on food watching your other channel. Love it! I love your energy

    It amazes me how many people don't have a budget. The thought of not knowing what is coming in and what is going out when, gives me anxiety.

    • @Sjudit84
      @Sjudit84 3 роки тому

      Well, I kinda have a budget and kinda don't. Hear me out. :D Whenever I start keeping score of my purchases via Wallet or other type of apps, and I need to constantly add the stuff in manually (I cannot connect my card to it, since I don't wanna pay for a membership), first of all, that takes time and gives me anxiety that I have to spend time on this all the time or if I leave something out and it does not add up, go through my list and check what I failed to add into the app.
      Also, putting so many things in the app makes me feel like I am spending too much, so with every purchase I begin to doubt myself and I have bad conscience even if I buy food or something that is really needed.
      I know this says more about me than about anything else, and it is my problem that I get so worked up about finances, but keeping a budget does help me save money...but on the flipside, makes me have a really negative relationship with money. You know what I mean?
      So what I do now is I set up an automatic transfer of a specific amount of money into my savings account immediately after I get my salary, so that I don't even see that money. And with the rest, I pay bills and mortgage first before doing anything else (I get paid monthly). And then anything else that is left, I can use for remaining things. Had to trick myself into putting money in my savings this way, but it works. :D
      I also leave some money until my next paycheck for emergency smaller purchases and when my salary comes, I put that remaining amount that was left from the previous month also into my savings. Something there is something left at the end of the month, sometimes not.
      I don't have a credit card though so I don't buy things I cannot afford.

    Right now Ive been doing a detailed breakdown of each month, since he gets a weekly paycheck, and I'm basically reorganizing the bank statement in a way that I can see exactly where everything is going and how often, so that I can eventually formulate a cohesive budget and start paying off debt, investing, and saving.

    My takehome income right now is only about 1100 twice a month. I have been blessed in that my rent is very low (just over $500/mo) and that includes my utilities. I’m looking forward to May, when I will be getting married and we will be a dual income household. Thankfully, we a both fairly frugal with our money and will be able to save most of my paycheck for upgrades we want to do around the house and other things. I have no debt, and he only has a small amount of credit card debt that should be paid off shortly. I appreciate you giving tips on how to budget and keep track of things.

    I have been using a spreadsheet for my budgeting. I print it out & put it in a binder & document actual expenses vs. Budgeted. Every quarter I try to review what happened & what I can do differently.
    It helps to see what I did or didn't accomplish. An upside to the pandemic...if that is possible...is that I can pay down more debt since I spend less on gas, reduced my car insurance rate & only eat fast food 1 time per week. Every dollar counts. The little things add up quick

    I really like seeing someone else’s budget spreadsheet. Very different from mine. I may switch to your way whenever I get further ahead! Mine has the whole year broken into 2-week pay periods so I can know which check has to go toward which expense and which checks have a little more wiggle room for paying down debt.

    I think it is great that you are sharing how to start a budget and how to adjust as you go along. So many ppl are afraid of money and how to manage their money. Life is every revolving and we all need to check in on how we are spending, donating, saving your money for the allowable comfort that we may seek for ourselves and family. Personally I find it challenging to divide & track, household toiletries, household supplies, groceries, personal grooming supplies or like haircuts etc. If you leave it all in one bucket it may look huge but if you divide it; it can become tedious. Still working at as I rework 2021......

    I really like this and would use the spreadsheet if I actually had a computer as it's a very good idea. Currently though I am doing my budget in a old school book that my son doesnt need anymore. I've considered buying a planner but that would be having the extra money to buy one.
    The way I look at it is that as long as my rent and bills are paid and there is food in the house then we are doing well, I do have a savings account and although currently it's pretty empty I do try to put a couple of quid (I live in England) into it a month just to try and save for emergencies kids clothes etc.

    While using a spreadsheet is cheap, it really is not the best and most sustainable way to budget and track the actual spending in comparison to the budget. For instance every time you have a transaction then you'd have to manually update the spreadsheet in order to know where you are for the month and that makes people more likely to miss transactions and not keep up with their spending in relation to the budget. Budgeting software is going to be a better choice as it can import transactions and be up to date with actual spending along with tracking balances and running reporting. You can also be better able to view your history and search for transactions like when you wonder when did I last shop at XYZ, etc. Additionally if someone is not good with spreadsheets and gets formulas messed up then there's the potential for really messing up the budget if you don't know what you're doing.

He cashes the check and puts it away until the first of the month. We buy everything monthly as well. Gas, staple groceries, and weekly "throw" or as you put it blow money goes into an envelope labeled week 1-4 with one of our names on it to help over the month.

      There’s lots you can do to lower it. Big ones are things like hang dry rather than tumble dry your clothes, use fans rather than air con unless it gets really really hot, etc. Google suggestions if you want to lower your bill. Most things you won’t even miss after a year or so.

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 3 роки тому +2

      @@entomember We do all that already. Belgium has no airconditioning in houses. We only tumble dry the white load, and we are frugal on our electric usage. Still it's between €100 & €200 a month, and that is the "low" option, for the disabled (so a "social" tariff). And they are trying to get us off of nuclear power here (old plants), making it all even more expensive. They are nuts but no one has the guts to build new nuclear plants and sink the "no nuclear" plan. Most of all because we simply have *no* alternatives.

    • @AB-zr8pu
      @AB-zr8pu 3 роки тому +1

      @@entomember a lot of us already do those things and still pay very high rates, partly based on our locations. It comes back to per unit price as well as utility company (or in my case city) fees.

    As someone who lives in California if YOU think your house is worth a million I'd say it's probably work a lot more than that. Here a 400k house will be in a pretty bad part of town and probably a 2 or 3 bedroom and 1 bathroom House.

    Love this, need to start doing it again! Did it for a little while and then quit… I wish I was more interested in this stuff! Your budget spreadsheet is very similar to a software I was using called Ynab or “you need a budget”. Have you heard of that? Is there a budgeting software you would recommend? I am not an Excel spreadsheet person at all so the easier the better! XO

    Ur template is not quite blank 😉 i will never understand why the USA pays twice monthly, especially on fix income salaries .. we get paid once a month, at the end of the month, and all bills are also due at the end of the month .. so much simpler to manage 🤑 i use a similar yearly lay out 👍 i love budgeting 🥰

    I have been trying to get my daughter to do a budget like you have here. What do you think about budgets for bi-weekly paychecks? That is their situation. That pay schedule gives them an extra paycheck every 6 months (if I did the match correctly). So, technically, your system could work for them except for when the paychecks come during the month. Can you do a video on how to handle this situation? I'm relatively sure you advice will be quite similar to what I have been telling them but coming from someone else would be helpful. Love bother your channels and Dave's.
