Finally a video based on actual testing results to show how fast charging works on the new Apple devices that support it. This is great stuff, look forward to more like these from you and Monty.
iTouchAppReviewers I did this kind of comparison to some Nokia models. Qi-charging took roughly 1,5 times longer than with standard USB-charging. USB-chargers, however, are more intelligent and Qi-chargers are faster nowadays.
Thanks, honestly. I've used apple products for the longest. I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2017, apple watch, apple iPhone 7 plus, blah blah blah. But lately Apple's nickel and dime attitude lately. Honestly, I'm over it. I'm going to hold out until I see the X in action, if it's trash I'm transferring platforms.
Branson Bates, I would definitely keep to MacBook, however, the watch I would sell, I could live without it. I am upset by the lack of support for Spotify in the upcoming HomePod also, I know you can throw music to it, through Bluetooth, but it’d be nice if they’d support third party apps at launch. Honestly, the thing I am most surprised about right now is that they didn’t try a proprietary wireless charging tech. Apples really frustrating me right now.
Nice review. Luckily my wife has the 12" macbook so All I will ned to do is grab the cable. I still think it is a joke that you need to buy the brick AND cable. I especially think it is a scam that the X will be 1800 in Aus and then will still need another $100 to fast charge it then the wireless pad.
Ouch. I'm located in Canada so our exchange rate takes a bit of a hit as well. It annoys me that companies are so quick to jack up prices when the currency works in their favor but do nothing when it doesn't. Been sitting at 1.2 CDN to 1USD for a month now and I'm paying like it's 1.3.5.
Yeah guessing as much. I think the one I was looking at may be some cheap knockoff with Samsung branding as it was AU$19 where I then saw one for $80 so not sure what to do. Dunno how much I will need wireless charging. Will def get the cable for fast charge as wife has a 12" macbook so Minor win there :D
Android phones are also not being sold with Qi chargers included, at least my LG G7 insurance replacement didn't include any accessories at all, but maybe other Android retail is. Not a ripoff in that sense. OTOH, can't see a reason not to include at least the iPad level charger on iPhone now. My cheap Dealnews/Amazon deal on a KROV QC 3.0 wall wart works great, measures 46x35x23mm plFs prongs. No that is not KROV that is FONKEN. Same no name special junk. Under $10 for sure. Ipad standard charger should be able to work as well as your 4 port charger, given it's for one port, unless efficiency is sacrificed to safety or cost or green or such. The only defense is "Apple users prefer the tiny wall wart for size and weight" which I feel terribly confident the Apple users will accept X size/weight for X++ performance. USB-C makes you free though. Apparently.
I used Apple cables for most of the tests. I'm not sure about the cables making a difference in terms of charging. Totally going to make a video about it now.
Even if you buy a high power charger, it’s the device you connect to it that asks for the power it requires (as per the USB standard). This means Apple controls how much charge their devices receive and can therefore limit it if they see an aftermarket, non-licensed charger connected. It’s another form of control and is one of the reasons they don’t support industry standards such as USB-C as they can’t make any money off it
not even the X. I drop my phone wayyy too much. That means I'll be spending hundreds of yen on replacement glass over the years. I'm still only on the 6 as my thinking has changed. I want something that will last a while, but will it REALLY be worth it for me to upgrade all the way to the X? I use my phone to watch videos. To Instagram. To navigate. To send texts and emails. To find restaurant reviews. How much power do I need for that? I don't need it to do much more. Will the X make my experience THAT much better? I doubt it. I think I'm going to wait for a bit and see how far down the 7's drop. Maybe even get a refurb of one of those. I'm a 40 year old dude, who maybe doesn't "need" the newest thing anymore. And honestly, I bring an anker battery pack with me wherever I go anyway, so quick charge or slow charge doesn't matter as long as I always have a power source I can plug into.
Why would you want the X, that face unlock only feature will be a pain, hopefully a real innovator company such as Samsung will have perfected under screen fingerprint reader for the S9, then watch the X go the way of the DODO.
WTF, you hate iOS 10-11 but you will wait for a 2nd gen X, what's the difference they will be running the same crappy iOS on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 100th gen, Wake up
Will this really charge an iPad Pro 10.5 faster? Could you do a video on that? I’ve bought a 3rd party fast charge usb c cable and brick. I would opt for an Apple one if I knew this would charge the insanely slow charging tablet.
That battery app is suspicious. I noticed one of the features lying about what it was doing. Found a Mac Rumors forum where others had noticed too. I won’t make a claim one way or another, but I recommend against using that battery app. (Hint: you might recall the recent article about all the free Android flashlight apps and what they were found to be really doing). Just another reason not to leave iOS, which security firms list as the most secure consumer platform, for the more open and hence hackable platform of Android - with the known data mining that Google does, do you really want their pervasive platform phoning home with your data 24/7?). If you’re a Mac user and use Chrome, have you ever watched what it’s doing in the background? Have you ever tried to remove it? Are you sure you completely removed it? Chances are you didn’t and it’s daemons we’re left behind talking to Google’s servers behind your back. I’ve watched it happen. Don’t be so quick to leave Apple. There’s a reason Android manufactures give away certain extras.
Is the fast charging supposed to be done at convenience or each and every time you need to charge your phone? Someone mentioned in a video that the iPhone 8 will get excessively hot due to it being charged by the higher watts. Can you confirm this?
That's pretty messed up but as an employee of a fulfilment center people are buying these chargers so apple will probably do it again because it's working just like dlc and micro transactions are working as long as enough people buy in it will continue
What’s the app you using for battery status? Year later they discontinued that ubs-c to lighting and still no MFI alternative but some nice 30w wall blocks. Syncwire seems nice 30w usb-c and 18w normal usb for half the price.
I have MacBook 84W charger, usb-c to usb adapter and standard iPhone usb to lightning cable, unfortunately can't test how fast it would charge, cause waiting till iPhone X will come out, just wondering, if you have usb-c to usb adapter, don't you mind to give it a go? Cause I don't think so that everyone have to buy usb-c to lightning cable. Thanks.
FYI I thought the exact same thing when I bought the iPad Pro. For the fast charge capability to be fully realized, I too had to purchase the Mac charger and USB-C cable. Though it does work well. I also found out that the same charger works to charge my iPhone 7 Plus very quickly. Unlike you, I haven’t conducted any tests, but it is a LOT faster than my 4 port charger such as the Anke that you have, which I thought was pretty quick to start with.
How fast does the Samsung device charge in a half hour with their fast charger? It only worked 2% faster than the included adapter with the iPhone. I assume their device charges differently than the iPhone?
hello. how long does it take for the small iphone 8 to charge to 100% with the 29w charger? I have a samsung s8 (5.8 inch) and it charges to 100% in about 1h 30m with the included fast charger. I know iphone has a much lower battery capacity, but i still want to compare the top up times. Please answer if you can. Thank you! :D
I was a little confused at your video at first. I thought you were complaining that they claimed to include a fast charger when they actually don't. Fortunately the very first line in your description straightened me out. For what it's worth, I agree with you. Seems awfully greedy of Apple not to include a fast charger in the box with the phone. I wonder if they will do that will the iPhone X, since that is their new premium phone?
The OnePlus 5 comes with a charger that can do up to 60% of it's much bigger 3300mAh battery in 30minutes. The phone also comes in as cheap as $449 on some sales.
Did you use apples usb c to lightening cable with the anker charger because I have a anker charger with a usb c port so if I just buy an apple usb c to lightening cable will I get fast charge for my iphone 10
Everyone keeps pointing at Samsung 7, but Palm Pre was the first phone to use the Web OS style and have wireless charging right out of the box. I still have the charger but it doesn't work for the iPhone.
I have a question what sort of information do I have to search for to find out how to make sure the Chargers and cables work when I plug it into the wall and it charges my devices thanks if you can help me with that?
There are also 3rd party chargers with Power Delivery (PD), e.g. from Anker or Aukey, which cost $30-$40, depending on number of ports etc., which is cheaper than an Apple power supply. Problem is,. you still need the official Apple USB-C cable, because there are no 3rd party cables for that yet.
Thanks for the review. Is it possible to check if there is a "sweet spot" on the back of the iphone to place a magnet plate, and wireless charging still working, since I'm very fond of the SCOSCHE magicMOUNT in the car. Thank you again.
I've tried every magnetic case in my collection the only cases that work is the Mophie Force Hold and the Uolo 2 in 1 case. My spigen cases with the Neodynimum mount on the back do not work which is close to the SCOSCHE mount I believe. The Force Hold has magnets along the edges of the case rather the middle if that helps.
MobileReviewsEh Thank you so much for your efforts. I will have to find/borrow myself a wireless charger and do some tries putting my spigen magnets on the periphery of this wireless conductor or whatever is called that thing on phone’s battery, and see what happens. It’s very tricky to combine both worlds: magnet mounts and wireless charging
Hey Aaron, you might now know this answer but I want to know if anything bad happen to your iphone battery if you charge it super fast? what if you were able to charge it to 50% in five minutes. does it change the half life of the battery?
Well, I for one I already had an 87w USB-C charger for my MBP, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn I could connect it to my iPhone for fast charging. I honestly didn't even know what fast charging was until I saw this video.
I been charging my iPhones using my iPad chargers since first iPad was released and it's always charges pretty fast. so what's new in fast charging? did apple just realised this in 2017?
The ventev Q3 (Qualcomm Quick Charge 3) Charged my iPhone 8 from 20%-60% in about 20. Never had it completely dead. Also went back to the S8 after a week due to software restrictions I couldn't live with.
I'm done with Apple phones. I was using an iPhone 6plus and a Note 5. I preordered the iPhone 8plus 256 but cancelled it and got the Note8. SO glad I did.
That is why we need Steve jobs back . Tim is ripping off all of us. With paying more but getting Less . Why paid a premium price and get the 2nd hand product .
N Sims Unfortunately Steve is obviously dead, so Apple needs to fire Tim Cook's a$$ and get somebody incharge that is actually good at pretending that they care about the consumer. Because currently I only see benefits for them and more inconveniences for the users of their new devices.
Would of nice to see proper xy-plot measured e.g. in 5 min intervals trough 0% to 100% charge. It is also good to know that fast charging will kill battery faster, too.
I'm with Monty on this one. Speechless at what Apple is doing.
FIGNAS83 scamming peaple? They have been doing that for a long time...
I guess a Lightning/USB-C dongle (or v.v.) could be included in box with phone, or handed out in stores.
Monty is totally judging you right now.
Monty is always judging me. Always staring.
I thought he was judging Apple. No worries, Monty's your boy.
Finally a video based on actual testing results to show how fast charging works on the new Apple devices that support it. This is great stuff, look forward to more like these from you and Monty.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Can't wait to see your Qi charger reviews/comparisons for the iPhone 8/X.
iTouchAppReviewers I did this kind of comparison to some Nokia models. Qi-charging took roughly 1,5 times longer than with standard USB-charging. USB-chargers, however, are more intelligent and Qi-chargers are faster nowadays.

What charging app did you use ?

I don't think the wireless pad has fast charging capability

I used Apple cables for most of the tests. I'm not sure about the cables making a difference in terms of charging. Totally going to make a video about it now.
2.1A is fast enough..will too fast charge shortened the battery life span or get it bloated ..?
Well put. Very, very TRUE.
Keep up the great work. Much appreciation.
/highfive
loved the video, but does the higher 61w powered apple laptop chargers perform better than the 29w or do they make no difference at all
Actually the 0-50% in 30 minutes is spot on. I’ve tried it with a 30W Anker adapter and braided usb c to lightning cable. I did 0-50% in 24 mins.
N0T Enrique which cable did you use?
Nice.
Deadman Arcade I used a braided 6ft one I got from amazon.
N0T Enrique Could you provide a link?

work the fast charging with the old iphones?
not getting any of the new iPhones. I'm over it.

ehyoumon its called battery doctor

Can you test same plugs on the iPhone 7
Great videos, thank you.
What app are using to measure the charge time?
What is that app you use?
Have you found a solution to wireless charging and using the magnetic car mount?
What battery/charge app are you using for the tests?
I went with the first app with reviews in the app store. It's called Battery...
MobileReviewsEh Thanks! Love your vids.
I cannot find it, do you perhaps have a link? I have some that look like it but no timers etc.
Erik Jansen Battery Doctor

Would a charger greater than 30W charge the iPhone faster? Such as, a MacBook charger?
What breed of do dog is that? We just got one and looks exactly like it. He's wild though runs everywhere.
Is the fast charging supposed to be done at convenience or each and every time you need to charge your phone? Someone mentioned in a video that the iPhone 8 will get excessively hot due to it being charged by the higher watts. Can you confirm this?

Demetrius Martin amazon ?
Cool.
Yes amazon
Demetrius Martin lol party city over there cheeks all day 😂 in Amazon
Lol I'll just say it's not empty over there

I am interested in a fast charge car charger for the iPhone 8. Can you review some of those please?
I'm very happy you did the research. I have 4 of the chargers you've tested.....
Do u have to use the Apple brand USB-c cable or can you use a 3rd party cable for fast charging ?
I have MacBook 84W charger, usb-c to usb adapter and standard iPhone usb to lightning cable, unfortunately can't test how fast it would charge, cause waiting till iPhone X will come out, just wondering, if you have usb-c to usb adapter, don't you mind to give it a go? Can you try a comparison between this "fast charger" and the old iPad charger?
What app did you use to monitor the charging?
That's really cute how calm your dog is sitting next to you 🤣💙💙
What is your suggestion for iPhone xs max best wireless charger and fast adapter?
Watched for the first time. I like the test approach and results displayed. You have earned a new subscriber. Thank you!
What about the highest wat apple plug. Does that help more or nah?
No link to buy fast charging brick? I want the Anker 4 port charger. Think it will charge two phones to 40% in 30 minutes?
Would you apply same test for ip7 Plus with same chargers?
What made this video awesome was having Monty on your side 😂 so funny!
FYI I thought the exact same thing when I bought the iPad Pro. For the fast charge capability to be fully realized, I too had to purchase the Mac charger and USB-C cable. Though it does work well. What app is he using ?
What if you got the 61 watts or 87 watts? Would they charge faster???
What app did you use to view your charging?
Does it work for iPhone 7
I love how chill Monty is. Such a cool dog.
Can you please do a test with the same 29w charger iphone 7 vs iphone 8
How fast does the Samsung device charge in a half hour with their fast charger? It only worked 2% faster than the included adapter with the iPhone. I assume their device charges differently than the iPhone?
What about a quick charge 3.0 amp charger? I use this for my Android ZTE Axon 7 and it gives me 50% in 30 minutes. Would this also work for iPhone?
Can we get an updated video showcasing some amazon equivalent cables and charging bricks seeing that amazon is now carrying more options?
Can you tell us what the app you was using is called please thanks !
Would a 60w 6 port Ravpower charger do the trick???
hello. how long does it take for the small iphone 8 to charge to 100% with the 29w charger?
I have a samsung s8 (5.8 inch) and it charges to 100% in about 1h 30m with the included fast charger.
I know iphone has a much lower battery capacity, but i still want to compare the top up times. Please answer if you can. Thank you! :D
you should have used the USB C to Lightning cable on the anker. The Apple cable limits the input aswell
Would there be a difference between the 29 watt vs 87 watt?
Can you please do the same test for iPhone 7 Plus?
I was a little confused at your video at first. I thought you were complaining that they claimed to include a fast charger when they actually don't. Fortunately the very first line in your description straightened me out.
For what it's worth, I agree with you. Seems awfully greedy of Apple not to include a fast charger in the box with the phone. I wonder if they will do that will the iPhone X, since that is their new premium phone?
It will be interesting to see what comes with the iPhone X. My money is on the charger being the same.
What app where you using for your testing?
What app are you using to track charging +MobileReviewsEh
What battery app are you using for this videos.
Everyone keeps pointing at Samsung 7, but Palm Pre was the first phone to use the Web OS style and have wireless charging right out of the box. I still have the charger but it doesn't work for the iPhone.
What app are you using to monitor charging?
What app is he using to monitor the battery and the charge level while doing this test?
Will continuios use of the 29W charger eventual wreck the iphone battery?
what app are u using ? cant find this doctor from appstore... no junk mode
What is the app you’re using?
My 6s plus is going on :) I’ll stick with it will it blows or brakes
What app did you use for see the charging?
Next time, you could try a USB tester. See the speed directly. Although not all of them would manage the current.
I can’t see any links to the products you’ve reviewed ?
I subscribed because Monty is adorable. Couldn't concentrate on what was said. Too busy looking at that face! (lol)
Gotcha!
I have a question what sort of information do I have to search for to find out how to make sure the Chargers and cables work when I plug it into the wall and it charges my devices thanks if you can help me with that?
Why did I just discover this channel!? Solid video!
what app is that you're using to measure the battery charging?
*BUT TRY IT WITH THE 12.9" iPad Pro 12V/W charger. I'm not sure which is which*
I'll see what I can do.
what's the charging app your using

Hey Aaron, you might now know this answer but I want to know if anything bad happen to your iphone battery if you charge it super fast? what if you were able to charge it to 50% in five minutes. does it change the half life of the battery?
I'm not sure. Viewers have said it will but I have no proof of it.
So true. What a ripoff. Monty is the most laid back dog I've ever seen. Such a cool dog.
Monty is pretty chill. Only in the videos...though. I'll figure out a way to film him when he's not reviewing something with me.
Awesome video! I definitely think you should re-do the video when Anker's IQ 2.0 and compare that to the charging of MacBook charger
Well, I for one I already had an 87w USB-C charger for my MBP, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn I could connect it to my iPhone for fast charging. I honestly didn't even know what fast charging was until I saw this video.

Anthony good choice
Plus you get a fast charger with the Note 8 and AKG headphones.
Welcome friend!...Your tech level just increased 50% by leaving Apple...
Nice.
NK Allday apparently you do because you commented. lol. Thanks for caring.
Not sure if it's an error or update but my iPad charger is rated for 2.4A not 2.1A as stated.
Didnt they say they disabled fast charging in the software and would enable it in a future ios update?
Please tell what app you are using to display the charging state.
How did you get your phones to have that screen on them ?
Would of nice to see proper xy-plot measured e.g. in 5 min intervals trough 0% to 100% charge. It is also good to know that fast charging will kill battery faster, too.
Lol first time seeing a couple of your videos. Very entertaining and informative. Plus, I also stayed for the doggy. Subscribed
