You would need to contact apple. its a anti theft feature so people don't steal phones.

I have an iPhone 4S and according to apple I never backed up my data ever. I hadn't activated iCloud. Not sure if any things synced. I accidentally erased some of my notes, Can those still be retrieved? I read about software iPhone data Recovery and iphone Backup Extractor, but I wanna mk sure I lose anything else. Still not sure if the rest of my data is safe. I'm sorry, I'm not tech literate or savvy. I appreciate the help.

No, once the phone is in hard reset mode iTunes takes over and resets the phone.
Does it ask for your Apple ID when it finishes resetting?

fantastic vid, mate, everything explained perfectly, very simple, first ever time I worked with an Iphone, so this was spot on, this was a chritmas present my mam got, apparently brand new and sealed from ebay but it had contacts, bank details, and apps, so it looked second hand to me, dunno if they can be transferred from an iTunes account directly to a new iphone actually, I don't think so, because you'd have to set up a connection on the phone, which means using it, so we were ripped off but it's sorted now, also the reset button in the settings was removed... conmen I think but thank you again. :)

My computer won't get any pop up of an iPhone being connected or it being in recovery mode. The iPhone does show the iTunes logo though.

I have an iPhone 4 but when I reset it, in order to get into the phone, I have to put in the apple id that was previously on the phone. I made a new one because I forgot the old one, but it said it had to be the one already linked to the phone. I tried what you suggested, and the same thing keeps happening. Is there any way to start it as a completely new phone without having to know the apple id already linked to this phone? Thanks!

Mine won't go into recovery mode. When I hold down the power button with the home button the little "Slide to power off" thing pops up and it won't turn off without me sliding it. Please help. I'm trying to get to recovery mode.

Try restarting your computer. power it down and start it back up. update any needed updates. Also try using a different charging cable with the iphone. If all else fails try on a different computer.

Mark Floyd Depend on internet connection, computer speed, how much data is being transferred. It can take hours with a slow internet connection.

If your power button doesn't work you won't be able to get it into hard reset mode. your power button needs to be working.

Just hold down the power button until you see the apple logo appear. than release the power button and it should reset to what it was.
your great... had tecks do it 4 times and didnt get it...had a bad virus and that got rid of it.....wish i could do my laptop the same way/.....
Clarence Hawkins The PC equivalent would be to reinstall your OS but it may or may not work since people who make viruses for PC's have probably come up with a way around that.

Junaib Backer You can try hard resetting, it will remove the locked out part but you might need the apple id password for it if it has one signed into it.
I screwed up my IPhone after opening up Cydia after the jailbreak was done. Afterwards some of my apps were deleted- Phone, Contacts, App Store, Camera. By resetting this all will it allow me to use my phone again and other apps?
