- First Edition Arts curated MANODHARMA as part of its Karnatic Modern Series of events featuring TM Krishna. This was an extended Lecture-Demonstration on the subject of Creativity and Improvisation in Carnatic Classical Music.
This is Part Two of a three-part series.
In this segment TM Krishna explains and demonstrates the concepts of Neraval and Kalpana Swara in Carnatic music.
A great resource for both students of music and rasikas alike. Informative and entertaining in equal measure, as only TM Krishna can.
I love this artist's singing. I'm very new to Carnatic music, and a student of Carnatic style violin. It's amazing. What I love most about this artist as a non-Indian is his openness about teaching. He's informing his own countrymen as well as foreigners, though, I find Indians young and old to be generally very knowledgeable of their music. It's a beautiful aspect of the culture. But, again, he's not keeping the music a secret for only the initiated to understand. He's really a champion for his culture, and the music and art that he loves. It's commendable. I'm sure, with such a complex music, Indians have competing opinions of the music, and this artist's take on it. However, I hope his country people appreciate the work his is doing to teach others how to "hear" it, how to "listen" to it. My guru is wonderful. She, however, encourages me, as a non-Indian, to listen to lectures, read, and above all else, listen to various artists to slowly absorb this grand music. I'm very happy to be exploring this music as this time in my life.
Guy de Chalus tm krishna is a humanist , a social activist as well
i watch this once a week and still can't process all the stuff tmk has to teach!
Wow.. TMK is an absolute musical genius…how much depth he has shown here and more importantly able to explain it so well.. As they say, if you can’t explain it simply, you haven’t understood it in the first place.. this man is one of the greatest living masters of Carnatic music… 🙏🙏🙏
T M KrishNaa is a sparkling gem of purest ray serene - God's gift to music lovers. His singing, knowledge, and ability to convey ideas clearly are admirable. Congratulations to him. God bless. V Raamamurthy IAS Rtd.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.. I am falling short of words to praise ur talent! I have heard many of Kambhoji ragams of ur on you tube sir Wah! What mastery u have! Astounding! As I was listening to the neraval for "Bholaka" i had tears of joy! I was really in Vaikuntam. I felt u r the King of Khamboji ragam! Very inspiring and appealing indeed! The accompanists too were equally amazing!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Praveen Sparsh's look at 19:40 is epic. Seems like he's telling Tanpura player to stop agreeing for everything.
lol
😂😂😂😂😂
As much as funny it seems, it might have been insulting for the tanpura player to be stared at.
Absolutely amazing. What a performer he is. Great singing and outstanding support by Akkarai and Praveen Kumar. No doubt this man is a walking encyclopedia
Kalpana swara explanation using nalinakanthi is so beautifully taught!
This is wonderful! Helpful and beautiful... Great job editing. The Three-Way Split at 9:15 should be a staple video editing move for Indian Classical performances... The vocalist wants to see and hear the vocalists, but for the instrumentalists who are watching it can be very helpful to watch the accompanists! Great work here, much thanks!
agree with you 1000%
There could be more performers. In this case it's three.
"Staple" would be a stretch.
What a genius!
Great detailed explanation of the finer aspects of manodharma very useful for all learners as well as rasikas of Carnatic music
Brilliant articulation using the Atana neraval.
His lecture demo is as beautiful and enjoyable as his concerts. A real genius.
What a phenomenal synthesis of critical aspects/facets of manodharma!
Lecdem is wonderful and Violin 🎻 soul stirring 🙏

I can't believe this video only has c.40K views.
Shyam Sanker, we are surprised too. It would help the video if you shared the link and spread the word among like minded lovers of this music. Thank you.
@@FirstEditionArtsChannelI think these videos are meant to be discovered slowly by rasikas...I discovered it today only and I am blown away!
❤
wow!
Kalpana swara from 22mins
Now, the thing that you are not paying to watch this bravura performance/speech is very very unfortunate...for the three artists especially.
At 16:15, what is the song name? I'm guessing the phrase that's being demonstrated is in the middle of the song. No help from Google!
It's Saraguna Palimpa in the raga Kedaragaula.
Who is the musician TM referred to at 37:01? The one who used to sing even kalpana swara...?
Sibendu Das krishna is referring to Madurai Mani Iyer.
@@FirstEditionArtsChannel Thank you!
Does anyone know the name of the mridangam player?
If you watched the video to the end, there is a credit roll where the names of the participating musicians are mentioned. But anyway, his name is Praveen Kumar Sparsh.
First Edition Arts Channel Yes, I saw it right after posting the question. Thank you so much, amazing video.
