There are a few idol rappers that got recognition from everyone including the non kpop hip hop scene as you probably know like zico for example. I feel like GD goes even beyond that and actually get admiration and respect from everyone. As you said he's got that cool ass voice plus he's got a really unique style and flow. It's a shame that GD seems to be more into fashion than music nowadays but whatever.

Imo GD is very popular as a Kpop idol rapper doing mainstream music. But he IS very respected in Korea bcs he's the one that brought hip hop became more popular thru his music. Unlike Zico, who got the chance to do various things both underground and mainstream, I don't think GD really have that chance to do both throughout his career. He trained for 6 years and was supposed to debut with Taeyang as a duo called GDYB but YG decided to create a Hip Hop group so he contacted TOP who was an underground rapper and he auditioned and got rejected because he was overweight. He came back after loosing a crazy amount of weight and was then selected. So TOP is the underground rapper, not sure about GD.

둘다 좋은 음악을 만들 수 있는 인재라는건 백번 동의합니다. 케이팝을 대표할 얼굴인 존재들인게 백번 맞지요. 다만 그 과정에서 유감스러운것은 알엠이 '리얼 힙합'이라는 예민한 부분을 건드렸기 때문이라고 생각합니다. 알엠이 케이팝의 얼굴로 비추어지는건 백프로 동의하지만, 케이 힙합의 얼굴로 비추어지는건 동의하지 않기 때문입니다. 제가 위에 언급한 소위 '탈 아이돌급' 래퍼들도 다들 케이스가 다릅니다. 저를 비롯한 국힙 팬들(제가 뭐라도 돼보이는 말투같은데 전혀 아닙니다)이 그래도 알엠보다 지디를 선호하는 부분이 그 부분이라고 생각합니다. 지디는 '리얼 힙합'을 하고싶어한 적이 없거든요. 다만 거기서 나오는 표면적인 간지가 있다고 사람들이 생각하는거지.

There are a few idol rappers that got recognition from everyone including the non kpop hip hop scene as you probably know like zico for example. I feel like GD goes even beyond that and actually get admiration and respect from everyone. As you said he's got that cool ass voice plus he's got a really unique style and flow. It's a shame that GD seems to be more into fashion than music nowadays but whatever.

Imo GD is very popular as a Kpop idol rapper doing mainstream music. But he IS very respected in Korea bcs he's the one that brought hip hop became more popular thru his music.
Unlike Zico, who got the chance to do various things both underground and mainstream, I don't think GD really have that chance to do both throughout his career. So we can see Zico's broader range of music. Cmiiw ✌🏻

He trained for 6 years and was supposed to debut with Taeyang as a duo called GDYB but YG decided to create a Hip Hop group so he contacted TOP who was an underground rapper and he auditioned and got rejected because he was overweight. He came back after loosing a crazy amount of weight and was then selected. So TOP is the underground rapper, not sure about GD.
