I grew up in Speke but I went to Childwall Valley High school. The 81 bus took us through Hunts Cross, Woolton and d Gateacre Brow. We’d change buses at The Five Ways, then on to school. I left England in 1968 for the USA. Thank you for posting this video. It’s always good to see Liverpool 😊

My nan lives on Chelwood Avenue. The field belonging to that school was opposite her house, with cherry blossoms all the way down the road. It's a housing estate now...a reasonably nice one.
I went in the opposite direction to school...the 79 to the fiveways, then the 81 to SFX.

I lived in Woolton around 1960. The old joke used to be 'How do you get a budgie to Speak' The answer was 'Put him on the 81 bus' 😂 Such a stupid joke but we laughed our hearts out at it!

Lovely to see this video. My sister lives in Mason St where the Woolton picture house is. I now live in Norfolk but spent many happy hours in the Woolton picture house growing up in Liverpool . So fantastic it’s still there. Completely different experience to going to one of the huge multiplex cinemas. Woolton still has the feel of a small village despite now being part of a huge city. Lots of lovely shops and cafes to visit. I’m looking forward to the end of lockdowns so I’m able to visit my sister again.

The Picture House had problems during the lockdowns of last year, they did a crowd fund appeal and raised more than they asked for. I hope they survive as it's a unique cinema.

As a child I lived in Woolton for about six years with my family. I don’t remember the name of the road we lived on but our house backed onto the sandstone quarry. I enjoyed my life in Woolton and remember learning to swim in the public baths. I don’t know if they are still operating as I emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1966 with my family. After living in Woolton we moved to a house in Halewood, and I attended Gateacre Comprehensive School from 11 onwards. I remember enjoying Woolton Wood and I used to fish in Calderstone Park, which was just a bike ride away. Thank you for taking and uploading the video as I enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

The baths is no longer open, I'm unsure of what it's future is.
I made a video about Gateacre Comprehensive, its more about the walk to the school than the school itself. I don't know if you've watched that one. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

I was born in Woolton in 1963 went to st.marys , my sister who is 9 years my senior said they used to keep cows on a field in vale road where the flats are, they used to walk down to the village to James's dairy every morning, sadly it is not the same place that I knew, on quarry Street , the blacksmiths and newstead farmI remember it well it had horses in a field it was so beautiful, and I remember the bottom of vale road as they were building hillview gardens and Kenilworth way, and I did Sunday papers for many years in the 1970s for Taylors on quarry Street no wonder my Back is broken , I have very happy memories of my childhood in woolton, everyday was like a new adventure 💖💖💖

Many thanks for putting this video together. It's lovely to see these shots of Woolton to where in the mid 1960s my family moved from Grassendale, Liverpool. And it was especially nice to see the shots of Reynolds Park where in 1976 my wife and I had our wedding breakfast. Oh and also good to see The White Horse pub where my pals and I downed many a pint. I seem to remember that the other pub in Woolton was called the Elephant. I attended SFX school (before and after their move to Woolton) and at lunch time used to cycle down Beaconsfield Road at break neck speed past Strawberry Fields, across Menlove Avenue, down Yewtree Road then turn left to go up to Allerton Golf Club where my pals and I would have our sandwiches.

Beautiful evocative video. In 1975 I lived on Church Road in the house right next to St. Peter's Church and the graveyard with Eleanor Rigby's tombstone. I remember having dinner at the Elephant Pub and Restaurant which I catch a glimpse of in the vid. There was a disco-club "The Squires" for young people to party. Later on I moved to a block called Millman Court on Vale Road which sort of leads from Menlove Ave to Woolton village.

There was an Irwins grocers, the Doctors round past the pond, Dr Humphries Dr Warne. I remember the Dairy had a herd of cows, that used to be milked twice a day. Do you remember C. S.
