This is not a 'border run.' Ed is actually travelling to and staying in Cambodia. Border runs are when you cross the border on foot and then cross the border back again after an hour or so just to get your Thai stamp in your passport allowing you to stay in Thailand for another X amount of weeks/months.
nice one, thanks, sorry I might have missed it, what was the name of your bus company? do you know if they are still operating? or did covid shut them down for good? thanks
Nice vid, done that trip many times. You got ripped both sides. I use local transport so much cheaper, and believe it to be faster as well. You know that is not a real bus terminal on Cambodian side....it was build specifically to rip tourists off. All up including visa you can do for $60. That's an extra 40 to spend at Mickeys. Have you visited Laos at all?
Edward, last year I flew into Siem Reap from Ho chi Minh City, Vietnam on Vietair and it cost me only $59 one way and took about an hour. It can't cost that much more from Pattaya. Word of caution, don't drink the orange juice in Cambodia. I did, and I got the worst food poisoning. If you do, take imodium right away. Go see Angor Wot and the other temples. It's about $20 to get in to see them, but well worth it.
Thanks, Brian. To fly from Pattaya to Siem Reap involves going via other places and it works out, all included, so much more expensive, and could even take more time with changeovers and check ins. Far simpler to get the bus. Nine and a half hours hotel to hotel ain't that bad.
Me and some friends are planning to go Cambodia in 2020 . We have been to Thailand a good few times and know what we like we are just wondering is there anyway in Cambodia that you would say is similar to Karon in Thailand ? Any help would be grateful received . Rich
Greetings Mr. Edward Sweeney! If you were going to retire in a Cambodian city which would you choose "Siem Reap" or "Phnom Penh" I figure you have a lot of time in each city so you would have the best insight on which one is the best...? Anywho... Love the video, Cheers, Shalom & Best Wishes Mate!!
Thanks, Haurqermer. Siem Reap or Phnom Penh? They are both great places to visit. Phnom Penh is more of a real city, and has the advantage of being close to Sihnaoukville (about five hours by road) if you want to visit the beach. However, PP is not to everyone's taste, whereas everyone seems to like Siem Reap. It's difficult to say, because so much seems to be changing in Cambodia.
@@STEADY599 "Siem Reap" It is then my friend! How about settling in Sihanoukville, would you go there? anywho let's say you were going to spend a year in Cambodia, what city or town would you pick or "you had to pick" witch town or city blows your hair back the best! the one that makes you say "PHUCK YEAH I WOULD LIVE HERE" I ask you because you have heart and are true to your nature! SHALOM!
The three main place in Cambodia are all well worth a visit. Siem Reap is the one that most people seem to like. Phnom Penh is best for girly bars, although some people don't like the look of that city. It simply isn't as clean and pleasant as Siem Reap. As for Sihanoukville, well, who knows? It's overtaken by Chinese and their casinos. From what I hear, there are hardly any western ex pats there anymore, they're all moving to Siem Reap.
Spent many hours in the front seat of those minivans. I prefer it for taking video/photos. However, it can be a little unsettling depending on your driver.
Dragging the bag towards the border is why I prefer a backpack over a suitcase :) Also, in the Philippines we end up on boats too much ha ha (my wife still insists on her rolling bag)
"" Little Ram Shackle Cafe" I'm gonna use this again - lovely! hahaahah Keep up the good work, enjoyable and entertaining and educational all in one. hmm How do you do it!
Thanks, Steve. I booked this from a reliable little agent in Soi Honey but somehow can't find the ticket! But it's fairly average price for Thailand, but much cheaper on the way back.
Yes, more like 2 hours and then the mandatory 2 hour wait before the 1 hour flight and then another hour arrivals hall to hotel. Shorter journey time for sure but not an adventure.
How insane are those van rides? I sat in front one time from Siem Reap to Battambang and two drivers took turns watching me look out the dash glass with sometimes great horror as these two weaved in and out of the way of both big trucks and old ladies on bicycles through worn dirty and dusty roads. How well did you sleep after this trip? :)))
hi ed , good movie ..... we crossed the border several years ago and i swore i would never do it again because of the rip off officials , taxis and fake health checks etc , so now we fly in ...... glad you had a better experience ....... do you go to Sihanoukville ? .....
In my case, I travel a lot and as I live in Thailand, I have yearly the extension stamps and re-entry stamps so my passport cannot make it to 10 years with all the visa stamps too. So I use the internet eVisa for the countries around THailand, so I avoid the visas stickers that use a full page. eVisa are printed on a sheet of paper at home. Great solution for people that travel a lot ad live in Thailand. Be the way, I never sit up front in the in Thailand or Cambodia.
im flying myself with emirates next week but my dates put me 10 days over the 30 day limit, will i be able to extend them extra 9 days when im there? or will i get refused boarding on the plane.
Sunridge, you can extend your one month visa to two months quite easily. There are many reputable agents (or even your hotel) who will do this for you. They will, of course, charge you extra for it, but it isn't that bad. Maybe an extra 15 USD for the service.
Pattaya to Bangkok airport bye taxi 1000 Baht Bangkok airport to Siam reap airport £152 takes one hour no need to go to Phnom Penh. so yes yours trip was is allot cheaper but good what hassle, and 9 hours no thank you.
Edward, you’re taking a risk traveling by mini bus/van in thailand- especially the distance you traveled, the roads are deadly over there as you probably know and the amount of accidents involving mini vans is alarming. Stick to internal flights, whenever possible- I know it can be alittle inconvenient but it’s your life you’re putting at risk
Plus taxi/bus fare to Airport from Pattaya plus cost of Cambo visa.... Ed's route is cheaper and more interesting unless hanging around airports for a couple of hours is your thing.
At 15:31, when she was sliding some Khmer into the conversation, she was saying something like, "You're taking another video? You're putting on Facebook right?" Sorry, I can't really hear because you were talking over her, but that is what I got out of it.
I've done it twice on way less than you, for a start your 1500 baht ticket was double I have paid. Then you got bumped at the fake visa office instead of saying no and getting one on arrival for £32 dollars. I've never heard of anybody lucky enough to get it for the rrp price of 30, welcome to Cambodia lol. Then you paid the extra 5 as well as neglecting to inform us that you got dropped outside of town and probably took one of the scam tuk tuks at the place in the middle of nowhere, which charge triple at least, this can also be avoided. So on my trips I have never spent more than 70 but almost had a physical fight over not paying the extortionate price at the fake tourist place with the high price visa. They can get angry and your average traveller will give in they are so pushy
You are right, Meloz, visa on arrival is $30. But in my experience the people at the border crossing who want to 'do it themselves' always seem to be having longer delays. I just sailed through mine so I was quite happy to pay the extra.
