Awesome, the proscriptor!! A band I was with in Dallas, Tx. Called Big Iron played a show with Absu back around 2001. I used to see him at many local concerts around Dallas, a really great guy and really awesome musician. Great seeing him in this video. I always would say hello to him whenever I would see him and talk about Absu.

yeah i think i heard he was pretty nervous about auditioning for them. it is slayer after all. and his role in absu is the vocalist and drummer so I think he is used to pushing the pace.
If Proscriptor really was rejected by Slayer then it was actually a good thing, because he's a god in Absu, the black metal drumming thay add along with the thrashy riffs in Absu is godlike and unique, I love both Slayer and Absu, but Absu wouldn't be the same without Proscriptor so, Hail Slayer and Absu!
His drumming is just the perfect blend of tight and chaotic, which is perfect for the material he puts out with Absu. He would have made money, but he would have been wasted in Slayer, who seem to get slower by the day. I love Slayer, but it's a good thing they're winding down now.
i love slayer too ,but absu's proscrioptor drumming skills are light years apart from slayer, lombardo is a freskin icon,but just listen to tara , the whole album and you can see that proscrptoris another level

Whether Slayer or Lombardo are "the best ever" is a matter of opinion. I'm a huge fan of both of them, no doubt. But Proscriptor is also a well-known and very respected musician in the metal underground for nearly two decades, and has toured the world on his own merits. So I'm sorry but the "Wal-Mart" comment is out of line, man. Slayer clearly respected this guy enough to give him an audition, so perhaps you should be more respectful as well.

Yup they do play these songs faster live. Obviously this guy is good, and what little adjustments he'd need to make he could easily make. My guess is the reason they passed on him is at this point in their career, slayer really aren't interested in having anyone on the kit they already don't know, they want basically vets they know personally. And I think that has more to do with Tom than anything. After Lombardo left and Bostaph replaced him (again) Kerry wanted Dette back there and said he got out voted and they went back with Bostaph knee injuries and all, which is not a good recipe considering most of Slayer's songs fly by at mach 10 but its what the band wanted *shrugs* Theoretically, if Slayer "were" to continue and found themselves replacing Paul (and they'd have to eventually) I'd see them trying to poach Gene from Testament, its an interesting hypothetical considering Gene is basically Dave Lombardo's godfather. But given their past choices and what they've done (They plucked Paul and Dette away from Testament, Tempesta might have got the call up too had he stayed in Testament and not bail to join Zombie.) Assuming Gene wouldn't stay in Testament, dude seems happy there so I think that seat is filled for now.

Kerry always auditions amazing drummers, say, Paul Bostaph, Jon Dette, Kevin Talley, Joe Nunez and Proscriptor McGovern. All to replace Lombardo. None could actually do it. Haha!

Lombardo just basically "had to throw a little blast beat section into one of the THEN newer SLAYER songs" to show he was hip OR whatever but... lol. Yeah, THERE IS the ONE song on Christ Illusion that does have a blastbeat in it... I'm MORE of the old school SLAYER fan ,(DIVINE INTERVENTION on back) as again, I cannot tell ya the name of the specific track. 🤘🔥🤘

A well rounded drummer is never "too fast" for any one song or band. For myself, it takes discipline and focus to keep it true to tempo and not speed up. Going faster is easier, to consciously keep on the brakes is not, speaking for myself. *im not discounting Proscriptor, he's a great drummer, not to be interpreted otherwise. CHILL.
It wasn't the right personality for them and the drumming style is also way too different. That dynamic ride cymbal wouldn't have worked in Slayer. And Russ also let his attention slip for a moment in Postmortem.
