Well Don it is great to see your metal bashing. I think a lot of people would have just cut the flang but that would just not be the same. I take it you went up a thickness or two to give you the metal to move without making it too thin after stretching. I must say stretcher tend not to make as much metal as rolling but like you I have yet to find one that leaves and acceptable finish when stretching at least when shrinking to can dress the surface.
Thanks mate. Some areas got pretty thin after working, I’m happy to accept that as the air box structure still holds enough strength overall. If it was a primary structure I’d be going about forming a different way. The only stretcher/shrinker that I’ve used that left minimal grip marks was the Eckold. Especially with the composite jaws. I just wish I could justify the ludicrous price tag for one!
Great progress!
Thanks for the visual tutorial! Pretty amazing yet seemingly simple to get that curve. Hope I get a chance to try it on my project.😀
Awesome! I always hope these videos are useful to someone and their project somehow
Awesome work I have used my English wheel for many years but I didn’t know that trick THANK YOU!
Cheers mate. I’m just learning to use it as I go. There is so much to learn about the English wheel
Art!
Dude your a legend! Awesome work my friend👍
Thanks mate

Really nice craftmanship, with that English Wheel. Do you have to soften the aluminium first with a torch before you stretch it like that?
Thanks mate, I didn’t have to anneal it for this. It does work harden. On other jobs I’ve had to anneal once or twice as I worked it
Wondering... Is this where the phrase "put a little English on it" came from? BTW, having a lot of fun following your project.
Haha, I’m not sure, but I like it! Thanks mate
When you finish this thing you should have a go at building a small plane.
Two videos and you're done.
I do have an idea for the next one…..
