    Executive Fat Boy! My everyday shave. Gave a beautiful one to my oldest son when he earned his Masters Degree. He is such a hardworking smart young man. He deserved an absolutely beautiful lifetime gift and he got one! Paired it with a new Simpson Brush, some Bigelow cream, AS balm, a great leather shave bag and he was on his way to face the world! Oh and a fat pack of feather blades... he loves them!

    I recently just purchase the Gillette Executive Gold Adjustable from ebay in New Old Stock condition with the case! It was never used! There was another being listed at $695 + $21 shipping! I got mine for an incredible $90 +$9 shipping!!!!! The seller didn't realize what they had!! I did notice this though....the 58 and 59 models had Blue blades in them. Mine is a 1960 model and they converted to using the Super Blue Blades!! I saw it in a 1961 one commercial. Either way, it's an incredible razor to me! Thanks for all the vintage themed videos!!

    I’ve got two - one totally complete set in pristine condition (never gets used), and one just the razor. And it is far and away the most consistently excellent razor I own. Love my Executive Fatboy!

    Hi Matt- Very interesting presentation of the Executive Fatboy; thank you! A great-looking razor! I hope you have a great weekend and all the best!

    Now you've done it! The OCD shavers/collectors who, prior to this video, knew nothing of the difference in the knurling pattern between this and "typical" Fatboys will be feverishly searching Ebay and everywhere for one of these razors.

    I got one of these in an ebay auction and always thought it was a normal fatboy. I love how it shaves!

    That is one gorgeous razor. BTW, I've found that I set starting position of the dial depending on the razor blade that I'm using. For example, I can shave with an Astra SP all the way up to 9 for the first pass but is too much for a Platinum. My sweet spot right now with my favorite blade, which is the Gillette Platinum is 7 for the 1st pass, 5 for across the grain, and 3 for touch up. BBS shave with no irritation whatsoever every time.

    Beautiful razor! I must say I prefer a nickel finish on razors, but this may be the first one that I truly appreciate the gold color. Keep up the great work! Sad that we are getting closer and closer to the end of Gillette safety razors in these videos.

      I felt the same about gold vs nickel for a while... after getting some of the gold “better” models in pretty nice condition they’ve grown on me... I still really love the silver plated razors too... the Bostonians with their cool cases are great too and I feel the temperature difference with them as I shave... they hold heat a hair better and that’s nice too! But then there’s the Chromium Criterion DeLuxe and those are sweet too... listen to me with twitches of RAD coming on... 😂 I gotta stop! 😂

    I agree the package is just a interesting as the razor. That was a time when just as much thought was put in the packaging as the product. Great video. Thanks Matt.

    I love it. Very cool. The different knurling is outstanding. I would love to find one in the wild, packaging or not.

    The video mentions nickel beneath the gold plating. I've noticed on several Aristocrats silverish metal on spots where the gold's rubbed off, and was puzzled by an aparent absence of brass. I wonder exactly how did Gillette plate its high end razors of the era, e.g. brass base, nickel overcoat, and gold finish? BTW, out of curiosity, when's the t-shirt drawing? ('Jus askin'.)

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  5 років тому +1

      Edward Miles early gold razors were plated differently than later ones. Starting in the 40’s gillette did a copper strike over the brass to help with adhesion. Then nickel plate on top of that. Then gold on top of nickel. Nickel helps with color and durability of the gold. We do the exact same process today on our revamped razors.

    Found one brand new a couple of days ago. Sadly the closing mechanism on the box is broken and the blade bank is missing...
    Anyway I don’t think I should complain for 75eur 😁

    I got 2 of them but only 1 is in perfect condition and with the plastic case. What I'm missing is the shiny box. Wish I could find that box. As for the second razor it looks very good but it has some issues so it needs some tune-up or maybe a revamp.

  • @koosk41
    @koosk41 5 років тому +1

    For adjustable razors such as this, just how accurate was the adjustment over time?Bearing in mind the blade gap difference would be so small between settings, was the mechanism typically sound?

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  5 років тому +2

      koosk the adjustment mechanism never fails. It’s the safety bars that get bent and soap scum that builds up and prevents movement. A tune up or revamp fixes all of this and more.

    Hi mark, if Gillette remade one vintage razor, which one would you like, it can be done, I would love the Fatboy remade.

    • @RazorEmporium
      @RazorEmporium  5 років тому

      Paul Charlesworth my name is Matt :) and sorry but a remade gillette DE razors is a fantasy that will never be. And of all the razors that they could potentially remake in this fantasy, the fatboy would be one of the least likely due to its complexity. Fat handle tech is more like it.

      Borys Hawrysz sorry these ratings don’t reflect how much they are worth on eBay but more of how rare the sets are to find in the grand scheme of things.
