A delight filled video - watching the powerful Mark W. Barker being moved so carefully & smooth AND the sounds of the Barker mingling with the sound of the birds & water!!!☺️😍 Thank you!!!
Ahoy! Thank you for watching the Mark W. Barker make her way upstream to the Blast furnaces. The Mark W. Barker was Christened in September of 2022 and is the first Laker built in the USA since 1981! Mark Barker is 639' length and 78' beam and 45' depth. Mark Barker is also equipped with Twin General Motors EMD locomotive engines(SD70AC) producing 8000hp. Also a carrying capacity of 26000gr tons.

Any word on if new ships will be built in the near future on the lakes? Most of the freighters are getting really old now, like the Anderson. Most are from the 50’s or 60’s, older than the crews that man them. Sad how far we have let our merchant marine fleet go down!
Oh what I would do to be a crew member on the lakes right now. These guys are lucky, although they are beyond hard workers, the ability to be on the water is just so amazing!
@@eugenelangmeyer2304 right there are three departments, deck, engineering, and porters. I would love to be on the deck crew, and be able to do a watch on the bridge, paint the ship, hatch cover clamps etc… just being on the water
Yes! Those old piers are remnants of the old Central Viaduct. They have been there since 1887! Streetcars used to travel the Central Viaduct crossing the Cuyahoga River.

45’ draft in the river? How deep exactly is that point? I would think they dredged it to keep the needed depth

Amazing job by the captain. Very narrow. I am not knowledgeable to these. Does she have a bow thruster?
Yes! Mark W Barker is equipped with Bow and Stern thrusters.
@@eugenelangmeyer2304 Thanks! I guess they are much needed.
What a pleasure to watch. Thank you for not feeling the need to ramble on in the background.🎉

They have busy work like greasing the anchor chain and painting. Other maintenance and keeping everything clean. Thanks for watching!
