this song is amazingly brilliant and dark. never get tired of this one. Paul nails it again with his epic guitar solo. always a pleasure to see him getting totally loose.
@@XxLiz_98xX I guess because of their crazy hairstyles, I don't see anything wrong with them. This band is very underrated, I'm 17 and my favorite genre is trap but I like to expand my tastes and thanks to my dad I found this band, it sucks that on Spotify it's very difficult to find new things since they always recommend the same albums.
it's preposterous that AFOS are only known for a few radio hits although each time "I ran" is played they each make a dime but listening to their non popular songs such as this IMO show that they were truly very talented and tapped into something different than the rest of their contemporaries ! this song is case in point ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song, in a half-conscious state (not drug-induced, was just going to sleep) on my Walkman headphones back in ‘85 or so (took me a while to get the album) and it transported me to another world. It still does.
Paul Reynolds guitar work here is supremely intense and satisfying to listen. Top synths from Mike Score, you can really feel a great sense apocalyptic atmosphere in this song.
A song over 40 years old however, so relevant for today where technology has taken over human creativity. The performance of this song at the 1983’s US Festival was EPIC! (This doesn’t do it justice) All I can say is PAUL REYNOLDS!
I saw AFoS for the first time in the summer of 1983. I was standing up front, right in front of Paul and his Roland JC-120 amps. Incredible sound. That experience changed my life.
It's a real shame they aren't recognized beyond "I Ran". Great song, but this band was new wave with prog inclinations and should have been much bigger than they were.
@@CraigKeidel Dude I fuckin’ LOVE Oingo Boingo! I listen to them ALL the time and even watch their live shows that they did that are here on UA-cam, they sound as good live as they were on their albums, they were so amazing and very much underrated as well. People think bands like A Flock of Seagulls and Oingo Boingo were just one hit wonders from the 80’s but they were so much more than that but because they had some “gimmicks” like the hair and Danny Elfman with his quirky personality people just dismiss them all as goofy 80’s bands instead of the legends that they were. Oh well, at least we got their music we can still listen to. 😎 (Thanks for replying, I listened to this song while I was replying, I love this song!!! “Man made machines make, music for the man, now machines make music, while the man makes plans, second generation, generation lost, while the man prepares, for the holocaust…”. This song is so awesome!)
Man what songs saw these guy in 1983 police synchronicity tour .summer 1983 95 degrees out melting inches sun .the fixx ,a flock of seagulls , the police in Rochester ny ,with all my friends what great times great memories ,great songs ,ahhhh to be young again .music takes me back .its what keeps me going and I'm sure most of all you people on here. 1980s forever remember the good times to forget the bad times
Lyrics.. Man made machines make music for the man Now machines make music while the man makes plans A second generation, a generation lost While the man prepares for the holocaust Man made machines to control the days Now machines control while the man obeys A second generation, a generation lost While machines prepare for the holocaust
4:32 is just fantastic. Paul's tremolo picking before genres like Post Rock used it excessively. A little portion that makes me adore the song even more
Because they were living through the digitization of music. They were seeing drummers and bass players being replaced by synths. Just playing what they were living through.
I remember seeing that fact in the Bands Reunited episode from 2000. I think it was a plastic injection facility. Frank was a happy family man, Paul was jazzing it up in small clubs and Mike was being his typical dickheaded self. I found that episode in 2015 or so and saw it for the first time.
Yes. A song released over 40 years ago, which was not a single and doesn’t have a music video is uploaded by a random user and doesn’t have a lot of views or comments on UA-cam. So hard to figure out why that’s the case. 🤣
this song is amazingly brilliant and dark. never get tired of this one. Paul nails it again with his epic guitar solo. always a pleasure to see him getting totally loose.
I listen this group almost everyday since 1982, never get tired of their music

Sound of the 80s glad i was a part of it 💯💯🎸gen x 🤘🤘🤘
Let’s all stop for a moment and gather here together to appreciate the existence of this underrated, often derided, band.
Derided!? Why?
@@XxLiz_98xX I guess because of their crazy hairstyles, I don't see anything wrong with them. I can maybe see the “underrated” thing but derided? “Often” at that. I have never seen or heard them be derided.
@@FreshSpecimens Because of Ali Score’s crazy coiffure. A symbol of everything awesomely bad about the 1980s.

Frank and Ali complete the sound. Loved AFOS since 82.
A spliff, this album and I’m back in high school. Music is a time machine.

@@VIDS2013 Man, I'm jealous. And yes, those Roland JC-120's! WOW! Sound so fresh and modern. My favorite amp.
I keep coming back to this track. Especially with the age of AI dawning...
Beautiful song…with a dark undertone.
Introduced to their album when I was 5, 1983. Spawned a love of goth, metal, and melody.
Paul Reynolds is a guitar god he goes into beast mode 💯 during his Solo 🤘🤘🤘🎸🤘🤘🤘🤘
Awesome song 💯 saw them@ the US festival 83 I was 16& I remember them playing this track my ultimate favorite 💯💯💯the guitar work beyond awesome 💯
We will awaken and make the change necessary to restore balance to this planet 👁️
Beautiful and brilliant ❤
damn, that was a quick four decades eh?
Such a good song from an underrated band. At least underrated in America. This band was so much more than goofy haircuts.
They were bigger in the US than the UK.
It's a real shame they aren't recognized beyond "I Ran". Great song, but this band was new wave with prog inclinations and should have been much bigger than they were.

Yep, I saw them with The FIXX in June 1983 in Dallas. An era-defining show. Absolutely amazing.
Agree with previous post about it being the best song on the record. Was Ali Score's favorite to play live.
What a find 😁
Some songs just work
A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!!

Love this song, very cosmic
I would religiously get high to this song when I was younger. And I'm 26. This is a song that stands the test of time
Underrated 80's band fo sho. Some really good songs.
They knew technology would take over!! they saw it& we didn't 😳😳😳

My favourite track on the album. Has a slight Joy Division feel.

Love will tear us appart
My favorite tracks are I Ran and Space Age Love Song but this is the best song on side 2
Wouldn't be surprised to find they were influenced by Joy Division, frankly.

Realistic futuristic masterpiece... Sui Generis
Pure nostalgia
Complete and total foresight
I could see The Fixx or Ultravox covering this. Gary Numan! Great track.
Dude...you named other bands I love! Along with AFOS.
3:49 this is A Flock of Seagulls

Gran tema, tiene cierto aire de the Beatles y Vangelis.

83M views and 35K comments for "I Ran"; there's no justice. "Quicksand" also criminally underrated.

Is that Kim Jong Un playing the guitar?
On the album cover? Yeah... no. Supposedly that's a young Paul Reynolds.
