- Sam turns a lidded container with a threaded connection. In a previous video he made inserts with hand chased threads. Today he uses one of his hand made inserts shown in the video made from Pink ivory. The base of the box is Honey locust and the lid is cherry which has been dyed with leather dye. (no thread chasing in this video)

Nice project Sam! Thanks for sharing all your experience and tips …. I learn something new from each video 🤠
Thanks Sam,always learning!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Great lesson Sam and beautiful box.
Very informative video. I'm just starting thread chasing and need all the help I can get. Thanks again for your instructional video.
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice sam..that honey locust does have some interesting grain...
Love the lid... Nicely done
Thanks so much 😊
Very very nice. I’m going to have to try the insert, it really adds class to the piece.
Beautiful piece!
Very interesting video Sam! Lots of great info. Love the character in that piece. I turned a burial urn from honey locust that has the same coloring and character. It's beautiful, as this box is! Thanks for sharing.
Take care, Dave
Yes, the grain was really not typical of honey locust, but I know it was honey locust. I’m thinking it was from a crotch with some of that crazy figure later Sam.
Not bad for a piece of scrap. Although I maintain there is no such thing as scrap, they are just off-cuts waiting for the next project. This one really found it's calling. Beautiful color and figure. The cap ain't bad either. I love the shape and the color. excellent finish all around. You done good! Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thanks 😊
Sam, I like the box, liked the video, however didn’t like the audio drop outs (especially the one near the very end). Still got a neat idea though. The end/side negative rake scraper for sneaking up on the insert fit (probably also useful for slip in tops). Thanks for another video, keep them coming. Cheers, Tom
Tom. I’ll check out the sound dropping out. Sam
I like the knob , but would turn in a little more pronounced cove , and ball tip , like a chess pawn
Are the threaded inserts 3D printed , or injection molded plastic ?
This insert was made in a previous video I did. They are hand, Chase threads. 👍Sam
Very nice. I must have missed it but did you stain the Cherry lid and if so, how??
I am going to comment on this and respond in the March notes from the Turning Shop, so stay tune for that video and I’ll answer your question, Sam
What brand and color of stain was that lid done in?
I'm just getting back to this comment. I was using a leather dye from Tandy leather on this piece. Thanks, Sam.
@@WYOMINGWOODTURNER Im seeking the right color for a cherry wine rack I made for a wedding gift, that just caught my eye
@@scottvallie4495 Cherry can be hard to stain in flat work. It can be blotchy. Sam
Where do you get the threaded insert?
Sam. Just found your video on how to make your own threaded inserts. Duh! Don’t know how I missed it?
Ok, I was gonna say I just make my own but they have them on the Internet. Carl Jacobson makes some very nice brass ones that you can buy. Thanks, Sam.
@@WYOMINGWOODTURNER When I was at SWAT this year, I bought two of them from Carl. I just thought wooden ones would be more natural. I don’t have any thread chasers to make my own wooden ones, so I though it would be better buy them.
