"Suicide? Nah, I'm not a foolish guy. Don't even feel like drinking, or even getting high. Cause all that's gonna do is accelerate, the anxieties that I wish I could alleviate." As someone who's attempted suicide, and is a recovering addict, these lines in particular really helped me gain some perspective and pushed me through some very dark times. God Bless you Guru
A bit of backstory behind this track. At the time when The Moment of Truth album was being recorded Guru was facing gun charges and could potentially be facing 5 years. This could've ended Gang Starr legendary 90's run with Guru not being able to help promote the album while being inside and the group being split up for 5 whole years. This would've meant no full clip, no 8 mile soundtrack and most likely no "The Ownerz." But the BOOM! Guru wins the trial, the album comes out and ends up becoming Gang Starr's biggest commercial success with it going gold and containing some of their greatest hits to date! The first verse was actually recorded before the trial had even begun which makes it even better. Just the story behind this track alone makes it the greatest song of all time to me... Also can you do B.Y.S. next? :3
@VideoFiles99 Facts! And now we are hearing: But you can still get it if you dig deep enough. - Doesn't matter, it's a very weak argument, because important messages SHOULD have mass appeal. Always. Especially now, when people need it, and all they get is ear cancerous trash!
I had the honor of introducing and opening for Guru at the Apolo in Barcelona. We hung out behind stage for a min and at first he thought I was Spanish until we talked more. Amazing man. RIP
"Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge You may not know the hardships people don't speak of It's best to step back, and observe with couth For we all must meet our moment of truth" the first time I heard these lyrics 15+ years ago, it forever changed how I view most people. It's been my mantra since then.
The line where he says “but wait I’ve been through a whole lotta other shit before so i outta be able to withstand some more” hit me personally and helped me pull myself up many times
Beautiful song, and great reaction Ahmad. I believe this song means something different for everyone who listens to it; and personally, it was the last song I played to psych me up walking to the hospital for the birth of my daughter! Love to Preemo and RIP Guru - Gang Starr is forever!
Been listening to a young man since 98 when it came out. I knew it was dope. Whenever I was in a live show I was yell from the audience moment the truthful man and he was spending for me. Live man dope joint man. RIP guru respect the primo

One of my favorite albums of all time! "The Militia" ft. Gang Starr ft. Big Shud and Freddie Foxx, is incredible off this album, and a cool video too if you don't want to just see the lyrics video...
This was a big track and album for me. The theme I always took from this is: People will forever take advantage of the very smallest bit of kindness or love. That moment of truth shows your true heart. Will you stay true to you or will you let experience change you?
I follow two reaction guys. You and Boomer Reacts (one young man and a senior)! Ironically, he literally reacted to this same song yesterday! Always dope to see different generations react to songs I have loved for decades. CHEERS. Shows good rap has no boundaries.
Great reaction. This is one of the greatest and realest hip hip songs of all time, period. 90s hip hop is just another level and was the pinnacle of hip hop full of wisdom, message, education, and feel good songs too. Here are few more recommendations for you to give it a listen: World & San - Shine Shrlock - For What It Was Das EFX - The Real Hip Hop Channel Live feat. KRS One - Mad Izm Citizen Kane - Elements of Mind (Black Rain Remix) Keep doing your thing.

I remember the day I heard this back in the early 2000s when I first came to the US from a ps2 bmx game my older brother had. Shit blew me away even at such a young age. Years later these lyrics help me get through difficult times as an adult. This became super important to me. Taught me to never give up. RIP guru🙏🏽
