    For the RS3 Mini, if you're looking for added stabilization while it's stationary, consider the DJI Ronin-S/SC Extended Grip/Tripod. It's nearly twice the size of the tripod included in the box.

    Loved this review. So much better than a lot of the other reviews I watched.
    I wish the mini had a little more "umph" to it in comparison to the RS3 but it seems pretty good for what it is.

    For traveling, the RS3 Mini is perfect. Not just because of the weight and the size, but the smaller the gimbal, the less you stand out in areas with lots of people. It can be pretty annoying when everyone stares because you're carrying a giant gimbal. And as long as the thing can carry a 24-70, it's all good.

    Just started using the Mini with a Sony A7 IV and 16-35 F4 PZ G and the gimbal is handling the payload very well. Must say that it's not "that mini" when you need to pack everything into a backpack for trekking, but sure... it's smaller than the R3, i'll find a decent packing strategy for this boy.

      @@ZabsAntsTravels I find the A7 IV + 16/35 F4 to be a good travel vlog compromise. Used for some time on the RS3 Mini and it holds well IMO. @@erbartlett Thats what I meant.. So the active track is performed by your phone - so whatever improvements have been made to that, you'll still get with RSC2.. BUT, the RS3 has ever so slightly better stabilization, which works together with active track for the overall shot. I will say, to me it is not noticeably better with just every day handling. DJI RS2 is RELLY similar to the RS3.. It DOES work with raven eye - the motors are a lot stronger than the mini, but then again it weighs even more than the RS3. Ive been using the RS2 without any complaints since it came out.. The 3rd generation algorithm is better, but not by much - you will still get EXCELLENT stabilization out of an RS2. @@frijiisland well, when you’re pointing the gimbal forward, or turning left and right the Mini can handle that lens perfectly fine.
      It’s when you use the gimbal joystick and point the lens all the way forward that that particular lens gets too heavy for the mini to handle if you’re moving and bouncing around a bit.

But I have to take off my battery grip and cage off my Canon R5 which is a bit of a pain. The mini works fine with smaller body and a prime, like a 50mm or 24mm etc. But it feels awkward with the 24-70mm zoom which is starting to max out the weight. And I can't even think about using the RF 70-200mm for the rare occasion I would need that zoom level. At least with the Pro you have more options if needed. Even if it's 50% more mass it's not gigantic in comparison. Might return the Mini for the Pro.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  11 місяців тому

      I mounted it on the lens plate rather than the camera plate, and then just balanced like normal! You obviously can’t balance it looking straight up, but I didn’t need to dis thing special and it worked.

    Thanks for the video, unlike Brandon Li's work who I like and respected, you point out the condition in a simple real world demonstration in which the "mini" failed. Other UA-camr just simply sings the mini's praises. Yes I'd understand one can make the mini work, but none so far that demonstrate it's shortcoming. I bought my RS3 2 days before watching your video and I'm glad I did.
    I made a mistake buying the Zhiyun Crane M3, and I couldn't use 60% of my lenses and try to rectify the situation. If I had bought the "mini", it would have some of the same problems as well. Albeit the "mini" seemed much stronger.
    Thanks again. Keep up the good work!

    Great review it is a hard decision as I dont have a gimbal and this will be first time buy, question.? If you could buy a NEW DJI RSC2Pro for less than the RS3 Mini, which would you feel would be a better gimbal, the newer tech and stabilization that much better on the new RS3, I shoot with a R7 with cage and like the 24-70lens, so im concerned the RS3 mini could struggle.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, the RSC2 has much stronger motors than the RS3 Mini and its stabilization is also exceptionally good. I think I would get the bigger gimbal so there would be no concern about bigger zoom lenses like that. The mini is really best for APSC lenses in my opinion.

      Lock on focus will make sure the subject stays in focus, but raven eye can actually turn the gimbal, you need both. Like, you could put the gimbal on a tripod and raven eye would make it so it could turn 360° around to make sure it keeps the subject in frame.
