Where they're stored probably makes a huge difference. Humidity and temp matter. Never store discs in a garage.

Warner Brothers is gross and even if discs are stored in bad areas that's usually not the reason for these issues. A lot of it has to do with poor manufacturing. Laserdiscs have these issues too. I remember winning an Ebay auction for a stack of around 17 laserdiscs and around 8 or 9 of the discs had rot. I ended up sending it back and the seller was unhappy. I believe the seller was a female but she ignored me when I told her which discs had rot. I don't know how there was so many with rot. Makes me think she may have picked it out of the trash when someone was throwing discs away. Rot is still suppose to be uncommon even in laserdiscs which is the format that suffered from it the most since many manufacturing planets messed up the glue.

That's a bummer. I have a small collection of laserdiscs but just for the collectible aspect not to watch since I do not own a laserdisc player. I have just a few of titles that mean a lot to me. The mummy, Twister and a few random ones. So maybe 6 laserdiscs in my collection? Still on the hunt for Titanic on laserdisc

Warner Brothers is a disgusting company. I had either disc rot or a manufacturing issue with one of my Superman DVD movies that came in a Superman Boxset and they refused to replace it. A disc that probably cost them 25 cents or less to make and these cheap bastards wouldn't even replace it. Sent them that email years ago and they never responded to it. They just ignored me. I think I ended up downloading an illegal copy because of it but I would have preferred the actual dvd that my Dad paid for since it was a Christmas present.

I know those Marlon Brando collections were cursed from the beginning. Even right off the shelf many didn't work at all. I took one back and got a new one and the same movies didn't work each time. There were quite a few negative reviews about those online. Very sorry to see you've got a few unworking titles in your Gangsters Collection- that's a great set!

I heard on the world of CD music physical collectors thay is probably due the way that those disc where made. I mean, some industries used bad or cheap materials. In my case I've 25 years old DVDs and they are still perfect. Also CD's older than that. Here made in germany CDs/DVDs has good reputation due a its quality process. Sorry for my english.

I also have DVD movies that stop playing after 30-40 minutes on my Samsung DVD player. But on my PC with the DVD drive Asus these discs play to the end, and they don’t freeze. The reason is the weak drive and electronics of my DVD player. So, just try to insert your "non-working" discs into your PC DVD drive. You can use the media player classic program, and it's free. I hope this helps you.

I contacted Warner Bros. as I have quite a few affected titles. First email got no response so I emailed again after a couple weeks. They responded asking for some info but they want pictures of original receipts. I explained that many of these items were purchased years ago and I didn't keep all those receipts. Haven't heard a thing since I said that.

Interesting 🤔 I contacted them and immediately got an email informing me to send info and pictures of the actual DVDs and box sets. I explained that I didn't have original receipts most I bought day of or were gifts. That took a while to do but I sent all the info and pics they wanted and probably 5-7 days later they sent me an email saying they have the email and if they can send replacements it will be 4-6 weeks processing time. So will see if they send anything. If they do I will definitely do a follow up video explaining what all happened and what all they sent

Avid collector here since the 90s (UK/Europe - Zone 2 but also own some Japanese, Canadian and American discs) - never had one single issue of disc rot, except for some blank disc brand called Traxdata, these were notorious back in 1999-2000 for the metallic layer to disintegrate.
Regarding WB, I experienced one single issue on Demolition Man (Silverster Stallone - DVD zone 2), unsteady picture, slightly shakes.
Other than that, I own for example all of Clint Eastwood, bought all separately, and it's all Warner Bros - zero disc problems and I started collecting those over 20 years ago. At this point I am guessing that the issue you are referring to is specific to USA produced DVDs (Zone 1) - I also have a few of those including WB, zero issues still. So it must be a limited amount of disc production that had an inherent factory flaw, something in the plastic that made it porous and/or susceptible to damage under certain conditions IE change in storage conditions.
My solution would be if this happened, I would suggest to do what I did with one specific CD, (Daft Punk - Homework) that broke twice inwards from the inner circle - I made a safety copy instead of paying 3 times. In my case I'm lucky enough to have a friend who runs a DVD/Bluray shop, so I pretty much walk in there with a pile and walk out with a different pile. Sorry about the long post, hope this helps clearing it up from the European side.

If you store your disc in a high humidity climate you’re screwed. Never keep your movies in a garage or attic. They need to be at least in a room temperature room in your house. I also get plastic protectors for all my movies because that is a lifesaver for your movies.
