Lea is a soprano. she's classically trained...and tis song is just a peanut dish for her. The arrangement was appropriate for concert performance, so a little poppish and upbeat
she's definitely not a soprano, and her voice sounds significantly pop/theatrical! there are different types of musical training and you can hear a clear difference in styles
lea is the best pinoy singer ever. i love charice but lea's voice is sooo soothing and pleasant to the ears. such a pretty sweet voice full of clarity.
the essence of this song is the quality of the singer's voice that projects innocence and perfection.......and where is the last part of this!!!! the essence of it all!!! now you know!!!!
Never have I heard a singer with a voice as versatile. Many need to look inside themselves and realize that were she not Filipino she would be indisputably the world's greatest singing star. How many Broadway shows did she not receive despite her peerless vocal instrument. Thank god after seeing her in miss Saigon and les mis as well as her Disney work we now know she would have been the best Christine too. The best the musical world has ever seen. The boat and the goat.
she is such an awesome talent, the voice of an angel. she is a once in a life time performer and we should feel so blessed to have her talent be shown in our lives..i could listen to her sing all day...
Charice, Lea they are both Phils. pride! in terms of singing.....they are putting Phils. to be known in the map. Charice is always being intro as....from the Phils! and thats something to be proud of! :)
I agree--lea's so-called "domain" is not the opera, but she definitely CAN sing opera music. maybe she didn't make this version an opera one simply because she isn't known for opera. that's just it.
I love Lea's version of this song, i have just posted a video of me singing this and mine is a lot slower than this but i absolutely love Lea, shes fantastic!
Vanyaloth said, "It was definitely too rushed. This is a slow song, I've heard this performed at around the same pace, in a similar style. I don't think it is rushed. Frankly, I am impressed with Lea Salonga's interpretation of this song. I think she did an excellent job. Her voice is clear, her annunciaton and diction are excellent, her ear for matching pitch, hitting the notes properly rather than groping around to find them, her tone production and breath support is top notch.
This is in a lower key but she delivered it perfectly. I remember in one interview she said that some songs are arranged according to her range or key, I think.
Many artists present songs in various styles. I can understand Phantom purists finding this unappealing. "Think of Me" is my favorite from Phantom; however, I enjoy hearing Lea's pop rendition. Sarah Brightman did the same with "All I Ask of You" making it more pop and less operatic.
Her attack on this song is very Disney thoug. The first time i saw P.O.T.O., this song had a really different flavor something melancholic and even boardering to a bit of morbid/black/gloomy kind of love Yes, i think that Lea is versatile enough to do this part. There is just one very difficult song where she has to sing a very strong operatic/falsetto voice wherein the Phantom makes her sing really high notes in the first act. But then dosent the role of kim need LUNGS OF STEEL?
@joewhite31 Wow! Haven't heard her sing those before. Gorgeous high notes! I stand corrected. I was only basing it on her tone since it's so warm on her low notes here and it's very rich overall. But hearing those gorgeous As in Tonight and the end note in One Hand, One Heart, I'm definitely impressed. She must be one of those amazing 5-6 octave singers if she can handle all types of songs. Makes me lover her even more.
@smallsis222 Yeah, I know. :-) She delivers it so beautifully, too. She's a favorite of mine. I just posted that 'cause a friend of mine and I had an argument about her voice type. Lol. She definitely has a gift. I can listen to her all day long. :-)
I agree that the vocal range was changed to fit a non-operatic voice. Lae has a gorgeous voice, but if she tried to sing it the way Emmy did...the result many not be what she or anyone wanted. Both actresses do this song justice in their own right.
may i know when/where did lea perform this number?? it's a rare footage and i've not seen her singing phantom songs anywhere else! and do you have the full video??
I think you have to catch her midperformance. There's too many videos on youtube of her doing concerts and not enough of her actually acting. Perhaps it's just a matter of taste, but when I listen to her sing, all the lyrics of the song just make sense. With other singers I get so caught up analyzing their performance I ignore them. But Lea makes me stop and listen. She's just so...believeable. In my experience, she is extremely capable of expressing emotion. Check out Miss Saigon.
Long ago, a friend sent me cassette tape of a concert by Lea. It was for a function, which name I can't remember, possibly with a "sunlight" in it. If this is of that concert, the high note is not going to happen. It will blend into "only you have the power to move me..." from Starlight Express. I thought this is the one because of the recording sound quality and Lea's voice texture around that time. If it's not that concert, does anyone recognise what concert is this?
@augsal Yes I love Sierra's version! She is my favorite Christine. I personally think that this version is interesting because it's so different than what we normally hear. But of course I respect your opinion.
This was for Sunlife of Canada 100 years in the Philippines. I have no problem with the first part but i have to sing her the "operatic/soprano" part. Christine sings almost most of her songs in very high falsetto. I havent heard Lea sing it but im wondering if she can sing those exteremely high notes. I once heard her sing a Charlotte Church aria, i think she did ok.
funny how people expected Lea to have sung this song in it's original version especially the Pinoys. It's a concert for TV for crying out loud! sa channel 9 pa and this looks very late 80's -- mid 90's. sa palagay nyo ba mag rrate ito sa kung hardcore classical ang attack nila? Again, TV!
Lea sung this in a concert in the Philippines in the early 90's, it has a different arrangement quite fa song.st paced simply because it's just part of a medley of broadway songs..and to those who are ranting why the uploader didn't show Lea singing the last note of this song, well, the answer is simple... bec.it never happened...Lea didn't sing the last note and instead went to the next song.
@Elric33239 At least she doesn't sound like her voice is going to shatter anytime she reaches higher than an F5, like Emmy's did! Ugh... That said, Lea, being a mezzo, couldn't carry Christine onstage. However, the joy of concert performances, for singers, is that we are able to step outside our fach and sing arias (which may in fact sound lovely in our voices) from roles that we would be unable to perform in full.
@dbrel If she's a soprano, her high notes should be strong enough to perform this in the original key, no? (I don't want to argue, as you clearly know more about music than me, but I'm just asking :))
@deliriou5freak I know mezzo-sopranos who can go up to E or F - and yes, I mean E6 and F6! But they are really strong, deep and low mezzos. So what? Mezzo-sopranos are a dime a dozen, and probably the classically trained ones can sing as high and low as a soprano. Lea is a lyric mezzo, but since she's been singing as a belter for so long, she can only sing in a belty way - that's why she would never be able to really sing Christine's songs - she's a belter. With a pop-ish sound, definitely!
@dbrel wait.... there's still a possibility that she's a mezzo soprano... i mean she's pretty good in singing low notes.... that i myself have hard times reaching even if i'm a mezzo too
@piaaguilos I'm no professional too :) she can hit pretty high notes, but a soprano should be able to sing this song in the original key, but I don't know if she sings this song in a lower key because she likes it more that way, or because she can't hit the higher notes...but then again, for example, idina menzel is supposed to be a mezzo-soprano (not even a soprano) and she can hit superhigh notes...so, that kinda confuses me :D
@AceofGallifrey Interesting comment regarding Emmy Rossum. What you label a vocal flaw I consider a charming quality that brings tears to my eyes when I hear her. While I'm by no means a trained singer like you apparently are, I'm not as moved by a technically precise voice as I am by an admitedly flawed one that's capable of emiting strong emotions from the listener. You can go on and on about Lea and Sarah's versions of Christine's arias and I'll still say that they don't move me like Emmy's.
Her voice seems clearer than my future. ( That doesn't mean my future isn't clear, lol!) However, it seems the phantom of the Opera is the only Broadway song she can't sing. It's reeeeaaaally, really high.
Lea's character is always strong so even thou Leo Valdez was pulling her hair, strangling her i was not affected. I always see Lea... and she will just manage. Anyway Lea sings best as a Disney character Little Mermaid, Belle etc. I hope somebody would upload Beauty and the Beast sang ni Ryan Musikahan in the early 90s.
Lea is a soprano. she's classically trained...and tis song is just a peanut dish for her. The arrangement was appropriate for concert performance, so a little poppish and upbeat
I think she was more trained to be a broadway or theater singer than a classical singer. Two of them are different.
I think she a mezzo soprano
she's definitely not a soprano, and her voice sounds significantly pop/theatrical! there are different types of musical training and you can hear a clear difference in styles
princess jasmine is singing phantom.
my two favorite things combined haha
lea is the best pinoy singer ever. i love charice but lea's voice is sooo soothing and pleasant to the ears. such a pretty sweet voice full of clarity.
Best singer period.
Guys watch the video at 0.75 speed
thank youuuuu
I did... Its awesome
Oh my goodness absolutely flawless
Cool!!!
Omggggg! The best! Thank you
*It’s HER, the legend of contemporary performing arts, Lea Salonga. Very refreshing take, modern and boundless*
Um...I actually like Lea Salonga, and she showed a different version of Think of me, but the song is too fast..
Lucy, I used UA-cam's speed control to change it to 0.75X and it now sounds great!
Me too, I slowed it down just a little. Sooo great
Put it on 0.75 speed
lea salonga is lea salonga... she can sing any broadway song the way she wants and make it her own. she's a tony awardee after all.
This IS the lady who did the voice of Mulan. She also sang Jasmine in Aladdin and is the original Miss Saigon.
the essence of this song is the quality of the singer's voice that projects innocence and perfection.......and where is the last part of this!!!! the essence of it all!!! now you know!!!!

Ah man. Now will never know what she'll think of.
she is such an awesome talent, the voice of an angel. she is a once in a life time performer and we should feel so blessed to have her talent be shown in our lives..i could listen to her sing all day...
Really pretty! It's neat to hear it sung in a different range and with a different arrangement than the original. She has such an amazing voice!
best version. clear, catchy, original, unique, lovely.
The sound of paradise. Lea is one of the deepest and richest voice among women singers!
I am a proud to be pinoy, go Lea! I am one of your biggest fan!
i have goosebumps everytime i hear her great voice!
She rules!
She is so blessed with talent!
If you want it at the usual tempo of the song, make it 0.75x speed
How?
every song, she sings it perfectly.
ahh i love it! it sounds so nice when it's lowered (although the original has a huge place in my heart).
Lea is Broadway Superstar!!! no doubt, she can sing this kind of song!!!Proud to be filipino and for you Lea for making a history in the whole world!!!
ahh.... i love that song.... yet not available anymore...
Umm, she can literally sing everything!😲
She's a good singer....have to know music to appreciate one.
OMG Christine just became Disney Princess!
Charice, Lea they are both Phils. pride! in terms of singing.....they are putting Phils. to be known in the map. Charice is always being intro as....from the Phils! and thats something to be proud of! :)
LEA TE AMOOOOOOOOO
I agree--lea's so-called "domain" is not the opera, but she definitely CAN sing opera music. maybe she didn't make this version an opera one simply because she isn't known for opera. that's just it.
lea sings with her heart.. charice well she's good for her age.
i like this... and the way it was cut, it was like asking me to sing the missing part. HAHAHA
she is sooooo good goddess i wanna be able to sing like that
i agree, but i like how she makes it her own
I love Lea's voice!!
A whole new world
Wow wow i love her voice
i love her version of this song.wish there was a mp3 somewhere~!
I love Lea's version of this song, i have just posted a video of me singing this and mine is a lot slower than this but i absolutely love Lea, shes fantastic!
My fave version..

meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! where is the 'me' part? hahaha

lea's voice is timeless... charice is also good... for her age...
ganda nga boses nya iba sa mga ibang artista singer
Even though the tempo here is different (a bit fast), I did like this version... She has an amazing voice!
yes she is :) and she was kim in miss saigon too
Miles better than the so called biriteras. Her voice is too perfect for human ears.
I love Lea!!!
Her attack on this song is very Disney thoug. The first time i saw P.O.T.O., this song had a really different flavor something melancholic and even boardering to a bit of morbid/black/gloomy kind of love

one of my favourite pieces from my favourite musical :D
wow she is good!!!
how come it's not complete?
awesome performance though. i like her version more than in the movie itself.
thanks for the upload!
Absolutely wonderful! Very refreshing rendition.
Correction,
Forgive me, please. I meant to write "A Whole New World," from Aladdin, not from Beauty and the Beast.
yes she was... and the singing voice of Mulan
@joewhite31 Wow! Haven't heard her sing those before. Gorgeous high notes! I stand corrected. I was only basing it on her tone since it's so warm on her low notes here and it's very rich overall. @beltingbaritone i'm sorry... Its just that i'm also a great fan of her... And I'm totally in love with her voice
@kitsilog sa PICC yan. Pa concert ng Sunlife of Canada 100 years anniversary. Kasama jan ang The Company at Audie Gemora.
@smallsis222 Yeah, I know. :-) She delivers it so beautifully, too. She's a favorite of mine. I just posted that 'cause a friend of mine and I had an argument about her voice type. Lol. She definitely has a gift. I can listen to her all day long. :-)
@HecklesandTwitch97 Huh! But it didn't sound annoying isn't it? That's what really matters, I believe!
she will always be the best . wiw
hope you all know what is meant by opera in the phantom of the opera . whooo
I agree that the vocal range was changed to fit a non-operatic voice. Lae has a gorgeous voice, but if she tried to sing it the way Emmy did...the result many not be what she or anyone wanted.

I was really looking forward to the end. BUT. It just went OOOOOF! *done* Hahaha. Thanks for posting though! :)
💗💗💗
@beltingbaritone it doesn't matter if the voice of a singer is soprano or not.... it depends on how they deliver the song....
you forgot she's also the singer for anastasia
@beltingbaritone I think this is keyed lower. It doesn't sound right?
She. did. another version of this. Slower and more haunted. As only Lea can.
pinoys the best coverversions of the world...
Can you please tell me the title of the song, please. I really like Charlotte and Lea. ALOT.
The song is Pie Jesu - the same song sang by Charlotte Church. And then tell me if she cant sing opera?
@ethalinia
Wow. that just blew my mind. How do you know she's an alto? Her voice seems high to me but I'm no professional =D
if this is the first version heard...then everyone would think Sarah B's version is so wrong
i wish she would do phantom.
actually, technically, it's 1 note lower. because an F# to an F is 1/2, and an F to an E is another 1/2 so, it's 1.
@dbrel If she's a soprano, her high notes should be strong enough to perform this in the original key, no? (I don't want to argue, as you clearly know more about music than me, but I'm just asking :))

to be honest I only know one opera that has dialogue and that´s Zauberflöte!! The other´s are classified as Operetta!
YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

Dank u voor deze leuke reacties
wasnt she the voice of Jasmine's singing voice??
@dbrel wow..thanks for that! now i understand.
