He could be the new Jimmy Johnson; take a program on the cusp of greatness and bring it back, the NFL team that gets him in two years will get a coach who understands the game and the modern player
@@TheAtlantaDrive there's definitely gonna be multiple NFL teams callin for him every year. The Bears would like him right now lol. Marcus has done a great job with their program. Hes a native son...and though I 100% want the Buckeyes to win, Marcus deserves a lot of credit for the way hes handled recruiting, winning multiple playoff games etc as a young head coach doing a lot of this for the first time. ND is a hard place to recruit to when you consider their geography and academics relative to the amount of success theyre expected to have thanks to their own history and the expectations of their fans. You have...half a hand at least...tied behind their back in recruiting but yet are still expected to get elite players and be an elite program. Takes the right coach.
Well said, Buckeye fan! Most Ohio State fans are not as literate as you, so I very much appreciate the thoughtful and keen insight! I just hope it's a good game Monday night and no blowout - with no serious injuries to any player, either side! (lord knows we've had enough of those on the roster, being down to two third-string offensive and second string defensive linemen! Will be a tall task for the Irish to win either line of scrimmage) That being said, with that 20 million dollar roster Ohio State should win...or Ryan Day will most likely be gone next year. Win or lose I just hope Day doesn't track down Lou Holtz to beat him up!🤣🤣🤣
Ohio St team deserves the credit it’s getting. Their talent this year is unreal but can we acknowledge the incredible depth of this Nd team. The defense is playing elite ball with 2nd 3rd and even 4th strings in key defensive positions. I’d argue it’s more impressive than any other aspect of any other team in the playoffs this year
If they win on the 20th it is the most impressive championship run of all time and a 30 for 30 will be made about this team, what an amazing coaching job by Freeman and his staff💯🍀
To be fair to the 25 year olds, I'm 43 and sure, they won a chip when I was like 6, but I don't remember it. In my life, the most significant thing to come out of ND was Rudy.
@@Price2923 lmao!!! I don't watch a lot of ND games. Not interested in watching them struggle with Navy, Pitt or BC every year. They made the 4 team playoff once and got beat down. Great piece Josh, so true. What a story Marcus and Notre Dame have written this year. ND is back, and they didn’t compromise culture or academic standards…that is extraordinary in today’s college football landscape.
Yes, the starting QB is now a scout WR and the starting WR1 is now a 3rd string CB for Ohio State. The fact ND kept it close again Stroud, Jaxon, Egbuka, and Marvin Harrison with much less talent is incredible.
@@diggingmystyle that game and the game last season or part of the reason why I don’t understand why everyone thinks this will be a blowout sure Notre Dame is dealing a lot of injuries, but it hasn’t slowed them down at all. This should be a close game🍀
Agree winning a title would be huge. However, ND has won 10+ games in 9 of last 12 seasons, made the CFP thrice and played for a national title. Yes they got killed, just like every team that played 2020 Bama and 2018 Clemson.
Regardless of what happens Monday freeman was the right guy for the job. A lot of ND fans will still not be happy and the casual haters will say I told you so but this program is good and they’re a legit contender as long as he stays at ND.
And furthermore.. those of us who "Knew" MF was the Guy.. frm beginning, just look at the video of his announcement to players in lockerrm ..again! 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
Brian Kelly did a great job resurrecting the program to a consistent winner. They weren’t going to compete for championships every year. But they would develop their guys and be well coached. Freeman came in as a great recruiter. Otherwise I didn’t know a lot about him. I was hoping Tommy Rees would get the job if they hired internally. Freeman has been great at recruiting and adapting to NIL and the portal. He has a great staff and is a great CEO/motivator by all accounts. Win or lose, nobody can say the Irish aren’t relevant. The worst anyone can say is they aren’t in a conference. But if Bama, Texas, or USC were in the position of the Irish, they would do the same thing. They are thriving as an independent. They have a seat at the table with the conferences. If they need to join a conference, any conference will take them in a heartbeat.
Freeman arrived when ND beat Georgia. Georgia has 17 5-stars while ND only has 1. Recruiting less heralded athletes and coaching them up is the most impressive thing about MF.
Absolutely love freeman. And I knew once I seen the video of him walking into that locker room and seeing the team accept him. This man is year 3 head coach period not just nd head coach. So.. yes being mad as hell seeing our team lose to Marshall, Stanford, Louisville, niu…. This man is still fresh as hell being in that position period. But hearing how he spoke, how the team spoke about him how the became a unit… I said freeman would take them within 3 and win one within 5. Even if they don’t win , they have shown it’s a different era at nd and with all the injuries this yr and still getting to the natty The country better watch out…. Go Irish ☘️ ND 30-24 OSU
The Irish have slowly made a come back in the last decade. We have to recognize what Brian Kelly did for the team, but his job finished many years before he left. Upon elevating Marcus Freeman, the team has been elevated to a new level. I suspected it would be year three or later that they would be back in contention of a national title because Freeman has been rebuilding the team and the brand in that time. This is good for College Football, despite the NIL and all that . . .
Brian Kelly ,”I wanna be in a program where I can compete for a national championship” -proceeds to miss the playoffs 3 years in a row at LSU. -Notre Dame gets to the National Championship three years after Brian Kelly leaves including beating the SEC champions. LOL
Funny what happens when you finally decide to invest in the football program via NIL after Kelly leaves… aka Brady Quinn’s fund. Oh wait, freeman hasn’t done anything Kelly didn’t do in year 3… reach a national title game at ND. Except freeman inherited an 11 win team. Kelly inherited a 6 win team both at ND and at LSU. If Freeman wins a natty, good for him. He’s definitely better. If not, same level of coach as Kelly. Just because you like Freeman more doesn’t mean he’s better
@@UnconventionalSpark Freeman is a better coach than Kelly, Just look at how the players play, Kelly never had this kind of depth and ND, To lose your half your starters but then still see the ceiling stay as it was. Until 2002 OSU had gone 32 years without a National Championship. Before 2021 Georgia had gone 41 years. Alabama had a 17 year drought, USC 25 years before Carroll, LSU 45 years before Saban. I could go on. It was always either wishful thinking or naivety to think ND would NEVER win another championship. Even if it’s not this year it’s coming. They’re way too invested to not make it happen. Oh and we got screwed out of a title in 1993.
I think just as important as Marcus Freeman being a perfect fit at Notre Dame was him getting hired when he did. He was hired right at the start of the transfer portal and NIL craziness so as a head coach, he's only ever known it that way, rather than wishing it was like it used to be
Good recap Josh but as an Irish fan I must correct you in a few places 1 - Not only did freeman lose his bowl game. He lost it in embarrassing fashion, being out coached in the most brutal way, after going up 28-7 and getting cooked after adjustments were made at the half 2 - That high caliber team you speak of that he faced at the beginning of the season…was OHIO STATE! Full circle now
Good for Freeman, but ND fans who can't be happy without making sure everyone knows the guy who left them was a loser anyway is the worst case of spurned lover syndrome I've ever seen.
