I own a pvs-7 2+ and have a Svbony 7nm ha filter. I see nothing, nothing but heavy scintillation! I'm in light polluted Orlando but there's nights when the sky is prestine and clear, yet I see nothing. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Bob, can you email info@skywatcherusa.com with a photo so we can reference what you're workin with? Also, tune in this Friday at 10AM pacific as we'll be chatting with Will Young (@deepskydude) who got us into nightvision astronomy and you can ask your question in the chat.
Hi, can you say anything about Gen 3+ night vision tubes? I suspect they will be available in Europe as soon as the Ukrainian war is over, basically US equipment given to the Ukrainians.
We are not really sure what you want to know about them. Gen 3 nightvision has an ITAR restrictions which prevents them from being sent out of the country. Now the government can do what it wants obviously, especially when it comes down to conflicts. Gen 3 tubes are made elsewhere as well like ONVI for example. But current the law is if its a US made nightvision tube it stays within the country. That as much as we know.
There is a French company Ovni Night Vision that does this. They offer their service specifically for astronomical night vision devices. from 2200FOM to 2800FOM, Gen 3 unfoiled, white phosphor, no dark spots, with an even larger budget you can also get amplifier tubes in the milspec range, but the price is significantly higher than in the USA. At least they include all adapters, suitable plössl and panoptick eyepieces, filters and a lens for looking at the sky with your hand
Big like number 63 and subscribed! Excellent video and thank you so much for sharing!
I'm looking forward to when Gen 5 comes out. Then the Gen 3 models might be within my budget :)
Thanks, Kevin, for this presentation. I found it extremely helpful & informative.
