Tomac got world class cardio from his dad. His dad, John, telling the story of testing the Yamaha and the Japanese techs is hilarious. They were in shock looking up from the computer and say he is at 90% throttle the whole track.
I wonder how many people could or would ride like that, if they literally didn’t have to spend a dime on clutchs or redoing the motor. The only reason they don’t get on his ass about it, is because he’s the premier title threat and race win threat week in and week out. It’s worth it. But if he becomes an 8th place guy. You’ll start to see them bitching about the damage he’s doing to the bike.
Maybe the throttle body was 90% but it wasnt propelling his rear Wheel at 90% as it would be going in 3rd gear ( say 3rd and 4th most of the lap with maybe a spot or 2 in 2nd.. hence 3rd gear average ) would make his bike at 9,000 Rpm at the mathematical gear ratio go around 60 + mph. When you take the lap distance in motocross and divide by lap time on stop watch ...most GP riders / trucks average around 25 to 30 mph. So the throttle position is meaning less.
@@underthetrees4780 he’s had a few for sure. I watched his bike blow up at LLs in 2020 in both motos. Redbud 2018? Or 19? Blew up, not sure if it was both motos or not. Had that Yamaha on the brink at Daytona. He’s pretty hard on them.
We already have, the views and numbers since Eli have gotten injured have def gone down. It took something out of the air when he got hurt. Still going to be a great year just won’t feel the same
Dammit Jase, I had to go watch that whole 2nd moto now too in the middle and come back to this video, you're right the dude is just outrageous. J Mart and Weege both had a couple collective "Wow!" moments watching Eli, and Chase was within nearly 1 second all moto, unreal the both of them honestly.
sent my grandma those videos cant wait to see what she thinks always good watching that race from time to time just to see how much that bike and the scoop tire were made to be together
The on board footage from the past few years has been so eye opening to get a grasp on track conditions. Now that gopros are so crisp you can really tell how fucked the tracks are. It's insane how they will ride wide open with massive ruts everywhere and just not be affected at all.
I would love to see someone dig into HOW the top riders can get on top of the tire while turning, it’s one way they are able to accelerate so hard and Tomac does it better than anyone.
You know who I saw railing the outside in an Eli way at the opener this year, Deegan, that 2nd moto pass on Vialle was some Eli, beast mode charge around the outside. It's almost enough to make up for my post injury disappointment.
I noticed that same thing at Pala of 2021. Eli pre forms his head and shoulders into the direction of the corner so by the time he gets there his body follows the bike it was nuts catching that each lap of both motos.
Im sad for tomac, but i think its necessary, tomac needs a break to rejuvinate, and with him out, its open season for the rest of the guys claim the kings crowns. The real king of two wheels is watching and i would wager, that in a years time, he regains the throne. ET3, ET3,ET3!!!!!!!! 2024 CHAMPION.
I was never a Tomac fan, but always admired his talent. I was genuinely gutted when he got injured, but you may be right. I would be happy to see him back for one last full season, especially against Jett.
I went to my first pro race last year, Hangtown 2022. The first thing I noticed was the really good riders were going through this rutted bumpy section at high speed but their heads did not move. It was the weirdest thing seeing the bike move so much below them but their heads were perfectly still. That’s what stood out to me almost instantly.
I really enjoy your content. I found you when I was looking for Deegan vids and I've been hooked since then. Thx for what you do for motorsports in general. Cheers from Deez.....
It’s wild, growing up riding at redbud every weekend, the pro nationals are WAY smoother than the amateur weekends. They smooth that track out and prep it like you wouldn’t believe for the pros, then after the National, they don’t touch it again for basically the rest of the year. Weekend after weekend, for another 3 months. The ruts get so deep, 65s and 85s get stuck because the footpegs hit the side of the rut and raises the tires off the ground. That’s not an exaggeration. Faster guys create better acceleration bumps, better braking bumps, and better ruts. It’s gnarly how fast they can go on those tracks, but the pro track on pro weekend doesn’t compare to the rest of the year. The smoothest I’ve ever seen redbud, was racing the weekend after the pros raced, and they hadn’t touched it or prepped it.
Trying to understand two Aussies talking about dirt bikes is like trying to follow a kangaroo on a pogo stick - it's a bouncing adventure of confusion! Gooday mate lol
If i see one more guy cry about Tomac not racing. I absolutely love Eli and his family but is everyone just gonna sit and cry that Eli is at home enjoying his children and not enjoy the racing for what it is? We have an awesome battle for #1 in 450 and a battle everyone will probably be watching for the next 5-6 years. Eli will always be a legend obviously but its time everyone moves on and act like MOTOCROSS fans not just ET3 fans.
I tried it once on the mellowest ignition map I have. One lap wide open on a stockish 450. After I got off the bike my adrenaline was so high I could barely walk. That lap was more scary than when I flew a helicopter in combat
Thanks, guys, for bringing out some of the many aspects that this sport alone has. I've always laughed when commentators would say that these riders have to wrestle around 250 lbs. As we know, the otherworldly G-forces endured riding a missile that is trying to rip you off the back of the bike over raggedy, everchanging terrain where calculous & physics are exploding in one's mind. Every lap, there is scanning and memorizing every minute surface of the terrain & then millisecond calculations must be made to anticipate how the other people are changing that moment's surfaces based on visual signals & physical sensations coming up from the surface. Someday I hope a research center at a university will strap some sort of brain activity monitoring on one of these guys to see what I believe will look like Sidney from the space station at night. No one but us is able to understand the huge, high, and thick wall of sheer terror that one must continually slam their head against and through to gain even one more mile per hour, with each additional one multiplying the additional fear that must be dealt with. Our sport is impossible for others to comprehend, but enough leaks out to engage some spectators. Brutal, cerebral, physical, cardio mutant warrior, types... of which statistically Australia has produced a disproportionate number of. I grew up in the 70's right between Millvile & Red Bud, so I'm not some Ausi bragging... Just a guy who thinks we all are in the same foxhole. Keep thinking, guys, for this unique sport has a bottomless pit of attributes that no other sport begins to have.
Beast mode had always been the deciding factor the majority of the time…. when a rider sends crazy speed and gritty rides… especially outdoors! Chase beast mode is not Tomacs beast mode (attack skill, ballz, speed, technique)level. He’s A-grade technically sound fast with minimal but some risk (usually but not always bites him) …maybe outside his comfort zone at times. Jets mode is not even beast mode. It’s just smooth fast mode. In boxing it’s like Sugar Ray Vs Marvin Hagler accept the judges do not decide the close match….they will as individuals. Also, part of me feels that jet got way better coaching, (Johnny O) and it caught chase off guard with Honda. Almost like really ya Jaggoffs! So leaving was correct IMO
When Eli would go beast mode first of all he was younger he's talented and strong but he wasn't writing all out the whole race but more importantly he lives at high altitude meaning his body is working off less oxygen so that extra oxygen run into his red blood cells at sea level give him a boost
Millville 2022 450 moto 2 was one of the gnarliest rides in MX history. I’ve watched that race 20 times and it never gets old.
I hope the Beast comes back. It brings excitement.

Yeah dawg. No shit
I'm definitely far more interested in the 250 class this MX season than 450.
jet and Eli battling wouldve been amazing, my interest has dropped to almost 0 in the 459 class because of his injury
I am really bummed Tomac ended the season like that!! I was really excited to see him in the outdoors this summer!!!! God Speed Tomac!!

Ya he ia a madman on a bike. That bike does sound like a 85cc. Crazy.
When we gonna get ET3 on the show?
after he retires for sure
so we can hear all the good stories without him getting in trouble
