why stop at politics? why not take the leap and deconstruct your faith from an academic perspective? you talk of god but which one? just the one that was popular in your geographic region or one of the many that people have faith in around the world and through the ages?
What makes you think I haven't thought about all of that? Universalism as a strain in Christian thought is one I'm fairly close to and definitely find appealing. Did you just make some assumptions?
yup. i do assume, definitely incorrectly in some cases, that when people invoke god they've likely never really considered the possibility that there is no god. i don't think enough people actually do because i get that most people don't have many reasons to even question such core beliefs but i say this as someone who grew up going to church three times a week and preaching door to door on the weekends and have very strong opinions about what it means to actually be a christian or a phony fairweather blowhard. i'm not accusing you of either but i think your logic in approaching political discourse could easily apply to something else like religion for example, in all cases with the goal of avoiding acting against your own self interests for the sake of going with the flow.
I might be able to use some of this at work. Thank you.
