I have a 2022 Loaded Platinum PowerBoost that I ordered for daily driving and towing my 7000# camper. I have the 7.2KW gen on board. It is my fourth F150. This by far is the best one. I am really surprised in the way this truck and trucks in general are rated. The F150 Hybrid, in my opinion is the absolute best choice of any offering available. The hybrid model has been documented in ratings as being unreliable based primarily on transmission, electrical or body. Here is my thought on these claims. The transmission works fine. When I first got my truck about three weeks out I did an abrupt stop in a boulevard median to turn around. I did not notice at the time but the hybrid kicked in when I slowed down. When I went to pull out on the road the truck did not move. I was freaked out. I put it in park and then drive and it was fine. This happened again but the second time I figured out what it was- the hybrid shutting off the engine was interrupting the shift. The truck was in third gear and I was sitting still. Now I had something to report. I called the dealer and took it in they updated the software and trained me on the OTA updating. When I got home I checked my WiFi. It was not reaching the truck in the driveway so I bought another Eero WiFi unit to that it would reach the driveway. I have not had any issues since then. The truck powertrain is great. The electrical complaints I have learned are based on people’s experience with the AGM regular battery NOT THE EV battery. I watched a UA-cam video where they said they had replaced over a dozen batteries on Hybrids. It is not the EV battery but the regular battery (there are 3 on the Hybrid- a large EV battery, a regular battery and a small accessory battery behind the seat). The identified trouble spot is the AGM regular H7. I have experienced the message that says things are being shut down power too low as have others. I drive 2 miles to work- not enough to charge it up after starting. I experienced some battery drain on my regular 2017 because of this too. I purchased a battery charger to top off the battery once in a while due to my use for that truck and now use it on the Hybrid. My battery has been load tested by my father and it is in good condition. We also tested the truck charge and the charging takes longer drives because of electric on/off activity. Ford also added a more aggressive charging program. I got that update! Finally, body issues? I completely ignore this as I have found the F150 as one of the most quiet and luxurious trucks. My 2017 model after three years had a sunroof leak I discovered caused by dirt in the rubber seal. There you have my experiences related to reported complaints. There have been three recalls to date- two were minor and only one of them applied to me- fixed. The third one is about axle bolts shearing on the max tow powerboost (mine) I had it checked- nada but still waiting for final fix.
I am very happy with the truck. My 2017 was a 3.5 liter Ecoboost with 10 speed in the same trim and final drive. So I can really report on the difference between the regular and hybrid model. First, if you tow or are on the highway, dont expect better mileage. You may be surprised with 1mpg as I have at times but overall- the same mpg. Town driving is another story. I get 3-4 mpg better in town. Here is the hybrid carrot- when I was in Helen Georgia where driving around was mostly a continual 45mph on the country roads, I averaged 28 mpg in town! That 45mph and below are where the F150 hybrid shines. Faster and you start hitting wind resistance/size issues. It is fantastic towing and I get the same 12mpg on flat tows of my 7000# Airstream in FL and on REGULAR gas! I point this out because on these truck ratings they say you have to use Premium. Not true at all. You may for a bit more power if you think it will give it. Consider that this truck tows 12K pounds on regular! Find another one that does that! Chevy requires the 6.2 liter for that weight and it requires Premium and in the TFT testing it got 8.9 mpg with 6000# on semi flat land on a slow incline and they thought that was good. The Hybrid Tunda EPA is lower and the low payload (tongue weight for towing peeps) and tow ratings make it not recommended. The Ram? Only the Hemi and it is no gas sipper in the only one that can tow my load, the 5.7 liter. It pulls but Ram says to use Mid-grade 89 minimum. They report 87 may be used for regular driving.
I personally believe that the Ford F150 Hybrid with its power, MPG, towing capacity, regular gas use, quietness, features, knocks the competition out of the park. When you watch the UA-cam stories of terrible problems consider what they have done altering the trucks, etc. I believe the computerized hybrid is sensitive. As I have shared, it is not the EV batteries that have failed as reported by CR. There is some misinformation on that. If you are thinking about this truck as a purchase, consider what I have shared on benefits. Do you tow (you gain low speed torque), do you drive in town quite a bit under 45mph? If so, you would benefit from the hybrid version, especially if it is your daily driver. Just know may be more sensitive to short drives battery-wise. I would buy it again. I considered the Lightning but the towing range killed that. The hybrid is the way to go! In my recent hurricane evacuation, I stayed in a Walmart parking lot overnight. The truck ran the Airstream AC and power for 10 hours - about 3-4 gallons of gas.

Fellow Powerboost owner here. I agree with your statement. Unfortunately my transmission went out at 33k miles and my rear axle bolts keep breaking so I have to lemon law. I am considering a 24 Powerboost though. Hopefully its more reliable than mine.

Thanks for the review. Very helpful. I have a deposit on a new 2024 Plat powerboost, non-maxtow axle, which is fine for the weight I pull which is around 8k max. I have seen so many comments from people who just say they love their powerboost and that seems to be the the common refrain. I have never read complaints on various comment sections. Forums are another thing yet it all seems very positive. There is a lot of love for that model. I’m shocked at how little the gas engine runs below 45mph when tooling around residential and backstreets. I do spend lots of time idling in my trucks due to work and I think k it’s hard on an engine and the powerboost totally solves that issue. The acceleration is really good, definitely at or near the top of the pack for conventional trucks between 1/2 and 1 ton, which surprisingly makes it fun to drive, which was unexpected. finally, I had a 2018 Platinum F150 and it really didn’t have a good ride, and the plats had a tall rearend. The suspension feels vastly better now, not perfect but really good and the 3.73 rear end is a much more logical choice IMHO, it feels superb and is a better balance between efficiency and towing. The new tailgate is dope too. I drove the Ram with the SSTHO and it’s a hell of an engine, but it lacks the extensibility of the Powerboost and the Powerboost is surprisingly close in performance. Blue cruise 1.2 is good, hopefully in our lifetime ford will release the 1.4 (I believe it’s skipping a number) and that will bring it inline with supercruise in some ways, no trailering, but more functional on regular roads with a great lane keep system. Time will tell.

My 2021 Powerboost - just a Lariat with a few additional options - has been outstanding. Exactly in line with the EPA's 24/24/24 mileage projection, a great road car and, it's most appreciated feature, the transmission automatically controls descents on 7% grades when towing our 6,000# trailer. Just renewed its Blue Cruise, which is also enjoyable.

We absolutely love our ‘22 F150 Powerboost, Lariat 502A.
There’s been recalls but they’ve all been “nothing burgers”. Recalls have been minor in nature and have been completed during routine maintenance at our local dealership and I was provided a courtesy vehicle. You can drive this vehicle like you stole it with with 437HP and 570LB-Ft of torque or hypermile it to get insane gas mileage. We regularly use the propower onboard for dry camping. I liked ours so much I have one for one of our businesses and I’ve ordered a second Powerboost for personal use. Waiting in stop and go traffic or a drive thru is no problem….a/c runs from the battery pack and you’re sitting not using any gas.
It’s a fantastic truck and has been dead nuts reliable for 60,000 kms.

I use the Pro Power Onboard almost daily and its the most convenient feature on this truck. I really wanted to love this truck BUT, it has a few rather important flaws. The transmission failed at 33k miles and was replaced under warranty. It sat in the shop for 34 days. It has regularly gone into service for broken rear axle bolts…3 times now and I’m about to book the 4th time. No where to fit the large battery it would need, and payload would suffer a ton for the size of battery and motor needed to provide a reasonable amount of electric range.
You really need a EV with a range extender, like RAM, to make space for the electric components by shrinking down the engine and powertrain and then the engine would only charge the battery, since it would be too small to handle the demands of moving a 1/2 ton.
I’m genuinely surprised that they had enough foresight to design a hybrid capable of doing everything the non-hybrid can, but didn’t design a Lightning range extender\generator to allow the EV to do the same as well as power the inverter outlets without draining the battery. I’d happily give up the frunk and a couple hundred pounds of payload on the Lightning to fit an integrated range extender engine in that space.

This is especially true with EVs. Most have the more energy capacity than even several Tesla powerwalls. It's an absolute waste not being able to harness that battery to backup your house and work with your solar panels if you have then.

The shoulder portion of the max recliner seat actually is a ratcheting headrest when the seat is placed in its perfectly flat reclined position. That’s its main purpose I believe. I’m a tall dude, broad shoulders, these are the only seats that support me across the back so my shoulder blades aren’t sitting on the edge of the seat back. It’s quite lovely. Looks cool too.

There are several mistakes/falsehoods in this video. 1. The King Ranch does not have a cargo camera (when he says it, look at the third brake light, it isn't there). You have to get a Platinum trim for that camera. 2. The King Ranch isn't "optioned" with the premium Bang and Olufsen stereo, it is standard on that trim. 3. You can get the PowerBoost hybrid in the XLT, the Lariat trim is not the first trim to receive this engine. 4. The "rather unusual seatback situation" is the adjustable bolster found on trucks with the optional lay flat seats for when you want the seats to lay completely flat.
