I might be too late but adding a 1 way mirror near the end, and then a mirror at the very end could help with an “endless” trench look. Would be awesome in a bookshelf.
So hyped he brought this back! I loved the Dark Trooper and Palace builds he made. Thanks for staying in touch with your fans, Ryan. LEGO could learn a thing or two.
I mean in this particular build the thing is that all three dioramas are very similar in design and if they would make the other trench wall it would look wrong next to the other two diorama sets.
Looks pretty sweet. The bonus is, you could take 1 side of the wall off to display it sideways. Then just reattach the side when you want to look at the trench. It’s a great set. I bought 2 and combined them, then took them apart and made 1. It’s a good set for extra parts too for other builds.
Looks cool...you could add the other x-wings, Biggs and Wedge, but it all depends on at what stage of the run you want to display the scene(make a mini Millennium Falcon for the end). As much as I would love to make an extended trench I won't with this one, I have mine in one of those display boxes from Wicked Brick and I don't currently have enough space to display a bigger version anyways.
I would like to add an update here and say I have finally put together the double trench run set. And not only having the longer trench but the second Xwing added does make it a more complete set.
I extended mine by one plate but put in a transparent green lightsaber blade and spring loaded green bolt into the tower turrets to make it look like it’s firing. Makes it look more dynamic.
Making a large trench run with bigger ties and x wing and glossing it for a coffee table is something I always thought would be cool. It's doable even with the ucs sets. But that's so many pieces i dont have
Wow great job. To display it, I’m thinking top down is the best view. I am visualizing a custom dining table with this trench running recessed down the middle with a glass table top. A lot of work and $$$ but the end result would be sweet.
You are on to something here with this build... Does it make since to spend $400 on a bunch or random grey pieces, no. Does it make sense to spend all afternoon randomly attaching said grey piece, no. But does it look cool...hell yes. I'd add a back so it looks like it goes on longer, and make it even bigger (what's a couple hundred more bucks when you are in this far). Nice work.
I'd probably get three sets and build an elongated version of the original with Wedge's and Biggs' X-Wings flying protection for Luke's. Definitely stagger the turbo laser towers to give it a bit more depth. Maybe do Biggs' X-Wing disintegrating as one of the TIEs takes him out.
Looks really nice in head-on view. Wonder if it would look as good if only used one set but added the other wall. Definitely wouldn’t have the nice long depth of field as your model. With the extra parts could’ve had Wedge’s and Bigg’s xwings in there. Maybe add a micro Falcon swooping in from top.
I'm new to Lego (coming from 3D rendering) and I just bought this kit to learn greebling, now i can order those small parts (and some hoses) to create techno walls. Thanks for the demo!
With the new starship collection Millenium Falcon, it would scale pretty well with this setup. I was considering getting it to add it in high above the trench since it is the ship that ultimately takes out the tie fighters and reminds Vader about the spinning trick.
Put it in a bookshelf or get an IKEA KALLAX shelf and build it into that. Those KALLAX shelves are 13 cubic inches so you can hide the ugly outside and build it up some while shrinking it’s overall length.
09:43 least you could’ve done with all those extra pieces is make the turbolaser tower the correct size. They should be way bigger in comparison to the x wings and tie fighters!
You might want to move the TIE's further back, it would give you room to shift the point in the Trench Run to an earlier point with Wedge and, potentially, Biggs providing cover for Luke
It is great. I would add an x-wing rising out of the trench. Would look good on a long shelf on the stairs so you look down from above as you walk down. An expensive build but no worse than UCS. Throw in some random generic harry potter mini figs for the full authentic lego lack of value for money feel.
Build a table, cut a channel out of the middle seat the moc in the middle of the table, you could ad more Death Star greableing to the surface of the table and then pour epoxy resin into the table and the trench run
For those that have Ikea Kallax storage (I don't) they may consider widening the trench to fit the kallax cube such that you don't see the sides of the trench at all.. that said It is likely this trench would be too wide. I haven't tried to do the math on the size of these Tie Fighters and X-wings to figure out how wide the trench should be based on scale. Would be interesting to know if your trench is actually spot on in terms of scale.
Put one of the walls on a hinge so you can either fold it open and have the scene be well visible from the side and easily displayed on a shelf or up for when you want to have complete trench.
A really cool idea for the spare pieces could be making a to scale Millennium Falcon to put trailing behind the Tie fighters, think that would really push that display to the next level.
I decided to just extend mine a little bit in both directions with spare pieces i already had and then i put together a milenium falcon at scale to join the trench instead.
Hey boss... got a suggestion... build the surface portion of the death star and build it into a glass top coffee table. Will look great from all angles
Looks great. If you have any black plates to clean up the back of that forward facing wall, at least you would’ve had all black anti-studs, instead of the two different grays.
Looking dope, but with 6 sets, you couldve add the whole rogue squadron, and vader shooting biggs, also more turrets, and maybe to solve the wall problem, couldve made the death star sides (idk how to call it?), so one side of the trench, or maybe use the unused parts and plates to make one of the walls double sided
What you should have done to avoid the ugly sides, is change the vantage point so that the xwing is facing the viewer, slant the model slightly downwards, but also have pieces that show the outer side of the trench. Pieces that would look like the inside, but be horizontal, just like the death star has. To explain this best in words, these new pieces would represent the outer-most layer of the sphere. With this new viewing angle, the sides are completely obscured by the new additions and you could then add tonnes more guns and details. I would have also used the other xwings as luke's wingmen, perhaps even one of them being shot down.
Yeah I was going to say, taller sides. You know what you could actually do is make it taller and then make the part of the Death Star that is then up there, too. Add some more turrets up on top and you have a more proper display!
Very interesting video! I loved the new way of filming/ editting. Felt like a build/ vlog in one and it was very fun to watch! If I had so many trench run sets I think I would've just extended the height width and length of the set. For me it feels the Tie fighters and Xwing is a little bit too big and I think it would fix that perfectly. Nice job Ryan!
i feel you could have used the extra pieces to stand it up at a 45 degree or steeper angle so you could look down into the trench (relative) without needing to be standing above it. additionally you could cut down the length of the set and use those extra pieces to build up the surface of the death star for a fuller looking but more compact display, maybe you could even use the existing plates from the floor and walls of the trench and simply move them without needing to rebuild all of the greebles (that meaning the extra surface detail)
I love it as it is! If you want you can put some damages to the trench or some halve and broken ships in there a repair droid might be nice repairing some damage or salvaging.
I started watching this the other day and just finished the last few minutes. It really came out nice bro. I see what you’re saying about display limitations, but if it’s on a low table and you can see it from the top, you’re good. Really cool idea.
really digging this one. one way to reduce the view of the unfinished sides would be to do a front on perspective view like we get in the movie so it's wider at the front and narrow at the back
This was really cool man. I think it wants you to cut a hole in your wall and display it through a small window with dope lighting added in...Or a deep bookshelf. But the sides definitely need to be covered.
For the long view down the trench, a printed back drop would improve the look. To give the impression of the trench running to a vanishing point horizon.
Personally, I think if someone was crazy enough to go this far with a project, it might be worth going just that extra step further and buying a bunch of 2x2 inverted tiles in black to cover the ugly backsides. I think it'd just add a bit to the feel of it being an actual diorama meant for display purposes.
I’m giving away 3 AT-TE’s on Whatnot this Saturday! www.whatnot.com/invite/mandrproductions follow me!
I'll be sure to be there 👍
Omg hi
how does whatnot work
I like this video idea this is so fun seeing it ge5 bigger
Wish I could enter but I cant cuz I never win Jack shit
I might be too late but adding a 1 way mirror near the end, and then a mirror at the very end could help with an “endless” trench look. Would be awesome in a bookshelf.
dang, cool suggestion
So hyped he brought this back! I loved the Dark Trooper and Palace builds he made. Thanks for staying in touch with your fans, Ryan. LEGO could learn a thing or two.
You seem very familiar
Why
I mean in this particular build the thing is that all three dioramas are very similar in design and if they would make the other trench wall it would look wrong next to the other two diorama sets.
Big fan of the alternative builds you do Ryan, they're always a refreshing new piece of content 👍
That opening with the set sliding in perfectly to your hands was smooooooooth
I’m loving this build series you’ve been doing by modding existing sets to make them better. Keep up the good work!
It looks great i think would get 4. Build the Lego has in mind, but make it wider and higher
Looks pretty sweet. The bonus is, you could take 1 side of the wall off to display it sideways. Then just reattach the side when you want to look at the trench.
It’s a great set. I bought 2 and combined them, then took them apart and made 1. It’s a good set for extra parts too for other builds.

As much as I would love to make an extended trench I won't with this one, I have mine in one of those display boxes from Wicked Brick and I don't currently have enough space to display a bigger version anyways.
The Microfighter version of the Falcon is decent enough for scale. With some modification it’s a great addition (mine is mounted on my trench run now)
I personally believe the standard trench run set is small on its own. So having at minimum 2 sets makes it worthy.
I would like to add an update here and say I have finally put together the double trench run set. And not only having the longer trench but the second Xwing added does make it a more complete set.
if you wanted to make the walls not ugly, you could use Modified 2 x 2 Inverted tiles to make it flat and more sleek.
I extended mine by one plate but put in a transparent green lightsaber blade and spring loaded green bolt into the tower turrets to make it look like it’s firing. Makes it look more dynamic.
4:53 those are some strange looking Dogs
Making a large trench run with bigger ties and x wing and glossing it for a coffee table is something I always thought would be cool. It's doable even with the ucs sets. But that's so many pieces i dont have
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR A YEAR II O9VE THIS
Wow great job. To display it, I’m thinking top down is the best view. I am visualizing a custom dining table with this trench running recessed down the middle with a glass table top. A lot of work and $$$ but the end result would be sweet.
Put mirrors on both ends as well to make it look infinite. Things I would do if I was rich...
your gonna be the reason that the next time I walk into the lego store the trench run is gonna be a top 10 best seller
3:38: "I am contemplating".. GOLD!
Yo Ryan please keep up the alternate builds series, it's absolutely amazing! Love all of your content bro
This would make a cool book nook
you have lots of peices left over make the walls higher, add the additional Xwings and maybe get a mico scale Falcon and Y-wing add them on top
You are on to something here with this build... Does it make since to spend $400 on a bunch or random grey pieces, no. Does it make sense to spend all afternoon randomly attaching said grey piece, no. But does it look cool...hell yes. I saw someone add a micro Millennium Falcon peaking over the wall and it made all the difference. I shall be stealing this idea for myself 🤩
Glue a name plate on the front. They make these smooth black circular pieces that could fit on the outside. It's alot of work. But might look cool.
09:43 least you could’ve done with all those extra pieces is make the turbolaser tower the correct size. They should be way bigger in comparison to the x wings and tie fighters!
That looks soooo good,Nice moc!👍🏻
If I could I’d make a custom coffee table of sorts. Center this piece in and inlay glass over top, then you have a nice display esc feel imo
I imagine that if he put some crashed x wings and y wings it would look more epic including red leader disengaging from the trench run
You might want to move the TIE's further back, it would give you room to shift the point in the Trench Run to an earlier point with Wedge and, potentially, Biggs providing cover for Luke

I thought it was a pretty nice build with trench detail. Your build is awesome!

could put the spare black panels on the side to make it 'more clean' looking and more consistent plus more structural
This built into a coffee table with a glass top but wooden sides to cover the anti studs would be epic
Put one of the walls on a hinge so you can either fold it open and have the scene be well visible from the side and easily displayed on a shelf or up for when you want to have complete trench.
Honestly just buying the two and slapping the second next to the first will probably be the path I'll take.
Bro I really like these alternate build videos! Also it looks awesome! keep it up!
Love your vids
This is my favourite out of all the dioramas
A really cool idea for the spare pieces could be making a to scale Millennium Falcon to put trailing behind the Tie fighters, think that would really push that display to the next level.
I decided to just extend mine a little bit in both directions with spare pieces i already had and then i put together a milenium falcon at scale to join the trench instead.
I agree with you that the walls of the trench needed to be a bit taller... Having said that.. it looks amazing!
YES
You must be from Boston, the “WICKED!” Gave it away 😂
Hey boss... got a suggestion... build the surface portion of the death star and build it into a glass top coffee table. Will look great from all angles
My favorite of your alt builds so far!
Looks great. If you have any black plates to clean up the back of that forward facing wall, at least you would’ve had all black anti-studs, instead of the two different grays.

Considering the original Death Star was done with props, I could see a collab being done for fun like this to recreate it
Could definitely make a cool book nook, making the walls taller at the expense of the length.
Could use a micro Y-Wing...this would be neat built into a coffee table, with glass only over the trench
Brilliantly done.
What you should
have done to avoid the ugly sides, is change the vantage point so that the xwing is facing the viewer, slant the model slightly downwards, but also have pieces that show the outer side of the trench. That's ace!
Yeah I was going to say, taller sides. You know what you could actually do is make it taller and then make the part of the Death Star that is then up there, too. Add some more turrets up on top and you have a more proper display!
Beginning of the video was smooth 😮
I'm so glad you did another alternate build! Love this series! Keep up the great work!

I think if you were to flip it up on it's side for more of an "overhead view" from the side, it might work better as far as the view goes?
this was my dream as a kid, great job love it!
This series is an amaizing idea
I can’t wait I’m getting this for my birthday
I love that instead of just using the parts from the one you already put together you went and bought a sixth trench run, lol!
Hanging this set on my wall while watching this, fit the mood very well 👍
I love it as it is! If you want you can put some damages to the trench or some halve and broken ships in there a repair droid might be nice repairing some damage or salvaging.
You can also made exterior side of the walls better to use up all the extra parts.
You can also make the walls higher if you want to add some diorama.
I did the same thing, but on a 48x48 baseplate. It took about 4 hours. Great video, I know the pain of spending hours of building with gray.
0:54 That explains a LOT
Cool.
Thats a good set beside the price 😆
I think it would look sick mounted on a wall or something
When Sands kept giving Ryan more sets it made me think of the “General Kenobi” moment!
Yes i love this series! ❤😊
Hey Ryan - it's a bold effort but I think it looks better just connecting the sets lengthways instead of the way you have it.
This would be awesome for a book nook on a shelf
u could display on one the sides so u can see the whole thing I think that’s the best way to do it
I have a idea put a little falcon can put it on there so it looks like the movie
when i bought mine it was to part out as the other one (Dagobah traning) due to the 60 ingot pieces that would be usefull for MOCs
I started watching this the other day and just finished the last few minutes. It really came out nice bro. I see what you’re saying about display limitations, but if it’s on a low table and you can see it from the top, you’re good. Really cool idea.
Looks like you have a degree in the gribbles!
This set would be good for a Death Star same scale to the miniature ships that come with the set
really digging this one. one way to reduce the view of the unfinished sides would be to do a front on perspective view like we get in the movie so it's wider at the front and narrow at the back
You did great!! It looks awesome. I feel like the set ascended from a regular set to a MBS set!
You could use the spare pieces for the outside of the wall
Love how you challenge new yourself to go and build stuff people probably wouldn't thing about
This builds are great! Keep the good work
I love that set
This was really cool man. I think it wants you to cut a hole in your wall and display it through a small window with dope lighting added in...Or a deep bookshelf. But the sides definitely need to be covered.
And Ryan even got the LEGO designer AKA Sands, in the video as well.
If you reinforced the build a bit more, you could put it on its side and display it like that. I think it would look good.
For the long view down the trench, a printed back drop would improve the look. To give the impression of the trench running to a vanishing point horizon.
I never thought this video would come 😊
Personally, I think if someone was crazy enough to go this far with a project, it might be worth going just that extra step further and buying a bunch of 2x2 inverted tiles in black to cover the ugly backsides. I think it'd just add a bit to the feel of it being an actual diorama meant for display purposes.
This looks amazing but I feel like the X wing and tie fighters should be slightly bigger the micro scale doesn't look quite right
