  • Time lapse of a free form mural. You just start fiddling without any idea which way it’s going. Like when you’re on the telephone and chatting, not thinking about it. I just love doing them bigger and see what’s lurking in the subconscious.
Old text below from nearly a decade ago. But explains the point and place my work was at then. Feeling a pull back in that direction. Been hiding. Shh!! No one reads this Shizel anyways.

    Free Form Surrealism - Explanation
Russell creates his images similar to how Henry Moore sculpted. You start painting or sketching and have no pre set finished aesthetic in mind, you grow and evolve the visual outwards until it reaches its conclusion. The completed imagery then falls into either abstraction or surrealism. This is because the image is being evolved devout of subject matter, as such the 'subject matter' becomes the subconscious, and therefor falls into the category of Surrealism.
"My work's about energy, trying to capture it, and then turning it into a visual form. This falls into 3 different categories,
1/ The energy from the SUB CONSCIOUS where I use Free Form Paintings & Abstraction.
2/ The energy from OTHERS caught using Photography and Abstract artwork.
3/ The energy from NATURE illustrated through 3d Installation & Photography.
