Fun fact: the long-haired guitarist is Robin Finck. Not long after this performance, Gary moved to LA. He began recording the album "Splinter" and Robin played on the album, and then also joined him on the supporting tour. As a result I got to meet him: great guy! Fun fact #2: the Polymoog synthesizer is the exact type Gary used to record Cars (and MANY other songs!) originally. It has a unique sound, so Trent Reznor made sure he had one from the earliest day of his career. The Polymoog was also NOTIRIOUSLY prone to breaking down on-stage, so they had technicians standing by to quickly repair it should the need arise. It didn't. :)
Great performance by Gary Numan and NIN!!! This These Gary Numan hits are over 40 years old and now it's getting a serious facelift!!!!"Hurt "is a great NIN 's song covered by Johnny Cash . Thanks!!!
Gary has enormous stage presence. I've seen him live tons of times and he ALLWAYS has command of the audience from the first time he comes on stage to his deoarture after the last encore.
Been Gary Numan fan since Cars came out when I was in high school back in 1979. Saw him last year on Intruder tour, small venue, only a few hundred people and was a great show and looked like he was having a lot fun.
Gary Numan, plus Trent Reznor equals metal tanks 😅 I’ve seen Gary Newman twice in Brighton and he’s insane live so much energy and charisma and I remember seeing him with his daughter Persia when she was younger. He really has a very strong stage presence and attention to detail.
I did not know Gary Numan, despite my mom have taught me a wide knowledge of 80's music including the artists since she lived most of her 20's and early 30's in this era (the same age I have currently). Gary Numan is a visionary artist he experimented several music styles not only focusing in the typical New Wave sound in the 80's. I would totally say that he was ahead of his time👍👌👏🏻🎹🎤
good to see Gary being trotted out to perform his hit, looks totally different from what you see in the video for Cars where he looks Bowie-esque in makeup and all, like his live voice as compared to the metallic robotic sound from the 80's. You should check out Trent Reznor's version of "Immigrant Song" that he covered for the movie Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
What an experience, i know of NIN but I don't know anything about Gary oohh i know this song CARS AWESOME PERFORMANCE!! I KNOW NIN "CLOSER" SONG. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!! AWESOME REACTION RORY ❤ THANK YOU JO FOR REQUESTING THIS 😊🩷🔥🤘✌️
Both "Metal" and "Cars" are Gary Numan's compositions, this is just NIN's interpretation coz Gary was Trent Reznor's main influence. Gary is in no way menacing irl at all, he does have awesome stage presence, he's actually a really nice guy by all accounts! And still going and making new music, he's even had his daughters singing on his new stuff. His original version of Metal (and Cars), while different, still slaps today. Nice one Rory, and happy new year!

'Cars' had such a distinct sound, even amid all of the 80s synthiness. Makes total sense that Gary Numan would've been influential for Trent Reznor.

God I fkg love this! What an inspired fusion. So glad to learn Numan is still out there and doing great.

Great request! I love NIN.

Wow. Great stuff.
NIN are amazing. Been a fan since The Fragile.. check out Trents Collaborations with David Bowie
NIN recorded "Metal" on one of their albums back in the 1990s. They've never recorded "Cars" (other than in this video)
This was great! I hope you do more Nine Inch Nails. They are amazing.

Everyone looks different than they did 40 years ago - even Klaus Nomi would, had he survived ❤
He was the opening act and then joined Trent on stage for this and Reptile.
you just reminded me of the song by The Church@@vespoint

Gary Numan was my first introduction into New Wave in the early 80's. Drove my Dad crazy because of the androgynous nature of the scene.

This is fire 🔥🔥🚒🔥🚒🔥🔥🚒
If you like industrial and want to see what Numan's up to these days, check out "My Name Is Ruin", "Love Hurt Bleed", and/or "Saints And Liars"
Numan wrote "Cars" on a bass in 10 minutes including the lyrics!
Frank Zappa - "In France" sung to the tune of Cars by Gary Numan Live 2nd June 1980 Frankfurt Germany
Trent is bossing that tambourine
❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Tell me, has Numan ever written a song about his wig? As they've been close companions for many years now.
