You got it. The styling was also part of the concept and the message; it wasn't just for looks. Each member is seen as herself in Mamamoo and leading very different lives in three alternate universes as women who are unusual in one way or another, which is summarized in the final scenes in the MV. The point of course is that regardless of your lifestyle, clothing or career you're Hip if you're true to yourself and do your own thing. They introduced those alt lives in a series of 12 teasers for Hip and the reality in BLACK album (4 members X 3 alt universes) and they're worth watching to get more of the characters' backstories besides being fun.
I always like pointing out that they used actual Drag Queens for the Rock Star scenes with Solar which for Korea is a big deal because their culture is still behind on the whole LGBTQIA+ movement at the moment. But they have some Idols coming out as gay more recently and they have groups like Mamamoo that have no problem saying LGBTQIA+ rights
They even made a song about COVID lol. It's called DINGGA. This song is a bop too. Its a song about being stuck in a room and away from society. Hope you'd check that out as well. It has like a retro-disco vibe.
yay! i'm loving your journey discovering mamamoo. would love to see you reacting to their performances at immortal songs (way to sampo, delilah backwoods and passion flower are my favorites btw this is a show where idols perform immortal (old and very well known) songs in front of the original artist. it's quite awesome and mamamoo gained a lot of recognition when it comes to their vocals from this tv program. they also did a medley of the immortal songs later in their concert, it might be a good place to start if you want to see what these girls are capable of doing when they're on the stage) and also their solo work!! there's so much fun stuff for you to get into, can't wait!!
On top of what you touched on, the calling out media/haters, there was a second meaning to the song... it is another of their self-empowerment and female empowerment songs, telling people (esp women) that as long as they enjoy what they're doing it's awesome to do it. Even talking about the haters, they're trying to tell them to do better, with lines such as 'there's only one you in the world, why are you spitting in your own face?' (And should point out that hwasa cowrote this song, so a lot of the stuff is heartfelt from her) Kudgeon talked about the 3 universes where the members weren't mamamoo, but we should look a little at what roles each person chose for herself (and how they still managed to be intertwined in at least two of them). Solar had chosen a boxer, a princess (she is apparently decended from a royal clan) and a rock star Moonbyul was a choreographer, a mv director and the ceo of a record label Wheein was an activist, a painter/artist and an indie singer Hwasa was a musical actress, a mother and the president of a country In the mv, we saw glimpses of activist, director, princess and mother running around together but a lot more was filmed but cut out (seen in behind the scenes on mmmtv). But what is only really seen in the teasers released for the album is how rock star, ceo, indie artist and president are connected (solar is under byul's agency, with some news announced in the paper hwasa is reading. And wheein had sent an audition tape of herself singing to byul)
ty for reacting! it's always interesting to see ur mamamoo reactions ahhh I wish u recorded ur purple hawke guide reaction tho but we have what we have right also please could u react one day to onewe? it's an amazing talented instrumental band, they are self formed and self producing, and also they are from the same company as mamamoo

This is one of a few things i was about to point out, as it's easy to miss those drag queens (also, i love how solar had nana on her yt channel)
