    I’m not throwing rocks, but when you’ve had chunks of your skin cut out from melanoma, you’ll be more careful. I am days away from 5 years since my melanoma diagnosis, and when you’ve begged god to let you live to see your child graduate, it changes your perspective. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are very safe sunscreens.

      THANK YOU for sharing this. She mentioned she doesn't burn, and I think a lot of people have the idea that if they are not burning, they are not getting sun damage, but that is not true. That's why darker skin tones who don't wear sunscreen, but don't burn, normally get more hyperpigmentation than those that do wear it.
      Whether you burn or not does not matter, you are still accumulating sun damage. (And that could result in skin cancer.) I also don't think she realizes just how much more damaging the sun is compared to most other things that cause cancer. Sure most things have the risk of it, but there are very few things in this world that can cause the amount of damage that the sun does.
      I'm truly sorry for what you have gone through. Idk if you're still going through treatment, but if you are I hope your treatment goes well. (And if you're not cancer free yet, I hope you one day will be.)
      I think those of us who haven't experienced cancer yet should listen more to those that have.
      And yes I know Tati says what she's saying here is just her opinion and you don't have to follow it, and how she's still careful, but this is kind of a dangerous opinion to share. Even if we don't have to follow it, people who aren't as educated are going to listen to her anyway. That sucks tbh.

    I think I’ve went in the opposite direction with sun protection. Never wore sunscreen for most of my life because I don’t tend to burn. However, when I learned that a tan itself is evidence of skin damage, that gave me pause. Now I wear sunscreen daily, rain or shine, and my skin is looking much improved overall. Protecting your skin from the sun doesn’t mean fearing it.

    • @katgirlblue
      @katgirlblue Рік тому +28

      Absolutely right! A tan itself is skin damage. Every morning I slather on the sunblock, and have done since I was a teenager and read for the first time in a magazine about photo aging. It had two pictures that compared a guy who worked outside, and a monk in a monastery, both the same age. I guess you know how their skin looked - one was like leather and the other smooth. It made such an impression on me! Aside from that, I don't know why people tell Tati what she "should" do - it's her life!

      Castor oil is legit. It spared me a $$$$ vet bill when my dog ate a whole bag of bone meal. Instead of solidifying in her intestines (cause it's pulverized bone that will harden into a cement-like texture), she pooped it out with ease. When I took her to the vet for a quick checkup after, my vet said he couldn't tell she had eaten anything bad. No bloating, her gut sounded fine, and her stool was normal. 2 tablespoons of castor oil spared me an obstructed gut surgery. It only cost $10.

      There are tons of studies on castor oil, it has medical applications as some of its component compounds are small enough to be absorbed into the skin, making it a good base. There is other research into its uses beyond that, but most of it involves further refining-the benefits same aren’t going to be seen with just oil. As far as I can see, the biggest benefit of putting oil in your belly button is a moisturized navel. It’s not a magic medical gateway, and it looks like the peer-reviewed journals take that position too.

    Okay, I can’t - Tati, I love you, but your opinions on sun exposure are extremely problematic; from a healthcare perspective: UVA rays are actual RADIATION, and directly alter DNA and denature proteins in your cells. ANY amount of “tanning” is cellular damage. This isn’t my opinion, it’s medical fact. Even if you don’t get skin cancer, you will see increased signs of aging. There is a reason every doctor will tell you to wear sunscreen outside, but not advise against the use of most topical creams/scrubs/oils. You are far more likely, statistically, to be harmed by solar radiation exposure than by putting on various lotions/cosmetics. And no, the pores are not “mouths” to your body, the skin is actually a BARRIER for the body. That is its primary purpose as an organ. Please, please, everyone, educate yourself or ask a healthcare provider.

It is up to the person making a claim to provide evidence backing up their argument, which is what professional researchers do (or anyone writing a paper in school, for that matter). The concern here is that Tati has a very large platform that she is arguably using irresponsibly - if she’s going to make “pseudoscience” health claims, she needs to back them up with actual evidence that isn’t anecdotal, otherwise said claims could have potentially adverse effects for her audience. Another concern is that most people are not trained/educated on how to differentiate between valid and invalid sources of information, and/or don’t know how to analyze medical/scientific literature.

      Seed oils create free radicals that cause cellular damage, cellular damage can lend the body to developing autoimmune disorders and neurodegenerative disorders (think Alzheimers and Parkinsons). Free radicals also create an environment for cancer to flourish.
      Seed oils are processed with hexane (which is a chemical solvent used in varnish and glue) to make it more shelf-stable, otherwise it would go rancid faster.
      But hey, you do you, and stay clueless.

I have low vit D levels and he told me to do this, obviously with a hat on and not during the hottest part of the day. But it has helped a lot with anxiety and moods.
