I have been listening to this song since it came out over 50 years ago. I am not kidding when I say I have heard every Zep song 1000's of times. I have driven over 3.5 million miles and Zep gets by far the most air time. And sometimes an album like this would be played over and over without changing it. So on a day I drove 20 hours I could of heard this song 30 times
One of the great things about Zeppelin is the only thing you could count on is that the next album was going to sound different than the last... And that it was going to be great! 🤘😎
I thought that I was going to hear The Battle of Evermore instead of Misty Mountain Hop, then MMH kicked in. Bonham sounded so good on this one. Both great songs from Led Zeppelin IV. Heart/The Lovemongers do a great live version of the Battle of Evermore.
From their 4th album released in 1971, this is a great Zepplin tune that has substantial rockability. I always heard it was about a Love In held in Hyde Park in London to legalize pot. It was voted Number 10 of the top 40 Zepplin songs by Rolling Stone Magazine. The instrumentation is fantastic and back in the day, mind blowing. Lol. Still is!!! 🎶🎶🎶 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cosmo. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Harri, Zeppelin had many sounds, that's one of the things that makes them the GOATs in Rock 'n Roll. You've commented on multiple Zep songs that it didn't sound like them. And trust me, there will be many more that similarly throw you off. They were so diverse, it really takes a trained ear--someone with a greater familiarity with them than you currently have, to quickly identify them in their less typical sounding songs. The next one is, *"Thank You".* A ballad, so that should be a good test. Let's see if it sounds like Zeppelin to you. Cheers. ps~ *"Misty Mountain Hop"* was played over the PA system in my high school gym when we made our big entrance before each basketball game--it really got the spectators pumped up!
I can tell some of their songs right away just by the music..when i cant,Plant's voice helps..This one,i had no clue at all..But once again Plant's voice was the give away
Julie, if I could go back in time and attend 3 concerts, that would be one of them, for sure. The other two would be The Beatles at Litherland Town Hall, December 27, 1960, the start of Beatlemania; and, 1938 at Carnegie Hall in NYC, to see Benny Goodman and all the greats in his band, like Harry James and Gene Krupa. Which 3 concerts would you attend?
Great request Cosmo. This song is very much alive and well on New England classic rock stations. It has always been a favorite of mine. Thanks Harri🌺✌️
An underrated, all-time classic tune. If this song was on another album by another group it would be that group's best tune but this one had to compete with 4!! other all-time classic songs on the same LP.!! To me, this is classic Zep sound. Love Plant's delivery and the cheeky but very pointed lyrics about freedom of association and choice.
Wow, getting used to a Led Zeppelin riff lol. First time I’ve heard someone say that. These guys could have played underwater and made it sound great. IMO THX harri for you’re reactions bro. Rock on!!¡
throughout the first part of the song, the electric piano is panned left and the guitar is panned right. there's also a backing vocal panned left. it is clearly stereo.
I know I "should" say that "Stairway to Heaven" is my favorite on this album, but....( shhhhhh ) it's really: "Misty Mountain Hop". "Stairway" is iconic, it's amazingly crafted, BUT... the intro here has ALWAYS grabbed me right out of the gate ( guitar then soulful and powerful drumming on a catchy beat ), the oddly-continually-intriguing dropping keys to the verses ( amateur here attempting to explain the sound and notes ), the guitar harmonies, the creative vocals. "Stairway to Heaven" will always be a pub sing-along classic. "Misty Mountain Hop" is a tune to play in your car, windows rolled down, driving home at night.
This song is about when zeppelin was in San Francisco and partying with a bunch hippies and a couple of cool cops joined them instead of arresting them!
I always thought the part about the policeman was them getting arrested. The policeman says would you mind getting in line. Stay for tea, I took as being held. The policeman friends will all stop by, a threat to not make a ruckus and do as told. I don't know though. The beauty of music 🎶
Another Led Zeppelin track that may throw you a bit off-kilter is "No Quarter". Led Zeppelin - No Quarter I would consider "No Quarter" to be the very first Goth Rock Song💀 .
Mentioning how the sound was strange, I said 2 times repeatedly "It was purposeful" when Harri said "sometimes they do it on purpose" Harri is SOOOO GOOD
I do not think there is a "typical" Led Zeppelin song, trying to classify Led Zep is an exercise in futility, which they purposefully did, making sure that they would not and could not be categorized.
Harri, it doesn't sound like Led Zeppelin? Like "In the Light"?, "Kashmir", "Braun yr Aur", "Four Sticks", "Celebration Day", "The Rain Song"? None of their songs sound the same.
Well, to be clear, some of their songs do sound the same, particularly the blues-based songs on the first two albums. Not "the same" in a bad, redundant kind of way. But similar, very similar. Having said that, your first point is well-taken...they had a wide diversity of sounds when considering their full catalog.
I love Led Zeppelin, don't get me wrong. But I can't stand this song. It sounds like they wrote the music before the words and then just threw words into it. Would have been much better if they had just made it an instrumental, because musically, it is a fantastic song from a fantastic band. Just my take. No crucifixion needed.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Not saying there's no meaning or significance to the lyrics. They may be fantastic. But I've never even been able to listen to them because the cadence, the way the music and lyrics mesh together is very disturbing to me.
Unmistakable drumming by Master Bonham.
One of my favorites by them

I totally get it man. These guys were the best!! The 4 of them were the best at what they did. Incredible!!! The GOATS
Me too! I'm 63
Julie your 29. Look at your pic!!
One of the great things about Zeppelin is the only thing you could count on is that the next album was going to sound different than the last... And that it was going to be great! 🤘😎
@6:51 to 6:56, Bonzo’s drums are phenomenal, one of my favorites!
Classic , classic sound ! Never gets boring , never gets old … how is this actually possible ?
I thought that I was going to hear The Battle of Evermore instead of Misty Mountain Hop, then MMH kicked in. Bonham sounded so good on this one. Both great songs from Led Zeppelin IV. Heart/The Lovemongers do a great live version of the Battle of Evermore.

He should check out Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter".
I would consider "No Quarter" to be the first ever Goth Rock Song !
.
John Bonham beating the heck out of those drum heads! Like no other!
Fascinating to get Harri's perspective. This is the most quintessential Led Zeppelin sound I can think of, but I was weened on them and album rock.
Cosmo - Your intro was spot-on and the song choice was very representative of Zep.
I love the fact you say it doesn’t sound like Led Zep. Just shows their ability to change it up, very versatile. Love that about them.
Isn't this marvelous? I love this live at msg in 1973!!

This song is reminiscent of the Haight-Ashbury scene. Very groovy.
To me it sounds like Zeppelin right away...😁
Bonzo all over this!! 🥁❤
Def stereo, maybe "tinny" sounding is what you mean?
❤❤ this song!! 🔥🔥
Banger!
Nice to see you hearing this. Stay gold.
One of my favorite LZ tunes haven't heard it in years. Thanks for the flashback!✌
❤️ this song for over 50 years. It still makes me get up and dance!! ☮️❤️
I LOVE this song, thanks for reacting! Often overlooked.

Simply great, just for the fun factor! Pure fun it is!
throughout the first part of the song, the electric piano is panned left and the guitar is panned right. there's also a backing vocal panned left. it is clearly stereo.
Get the Led out!
Hari, I hear Jon Bonham, everything I even think about this song! Sounds like a great summer day to me!
Sigh, I meant "every time " not everything. My auto correct has a mean sense of humor!
Those drums nothing like it! RIP John Bonham

Classic Zep...just fun....yep.....does it have to say too much to be cool?!😊
This song is about when zeppelin was in San Francisco and partying with a bunch hippies and a couple of cool cops joined them instead of arresting them!
Hyde Park, London. The 1968 "Legalize Pot Rally". Was raided by cops.
Hi! It's stereo
You need to top that misty mountain hop with 4 sticks.
More great riffs and drums!🎸🥁
The Gods of Rock. I bow down to them. Check out In MY Time of Dying.
I always thought the part about the policeman was them getting arrested. The policeman says would you mind getting in line. Stay for tea, I took as being held. The policeman friends will all stop by, a threat to not make a ruckus and do as told. I don't know though. The beauty of music 🎶
You're right actually..staying in line could be an arrest..i thought he was celeverly using a term of getting your fix😁
It was the battle of evermore, at the begining, before the song.

Harri is SOOOO GOOD
Let's Rush 😃
Of course it's sterio! All of Led Zeppelin's music is sterio! Jimmy Page was a perfectionist mixing and producing their albums!
I do not think there is a "typical" Led Zeppelin song, trying to classify Led Zep is an exercise in futility, which they purposefully did, making sure that they would not and could not be categorized.
It's about the police and authorities harassing the the hippies!
I didn’t see a policeman 😳 in it for50years 😵💫😵💫😵💫
Frodo Lives....

Not live….no disrespect intended…I prefer watching reactions to live performances…
Reactions should always be done to the studio version first, and this was Harri's first time hearing the song.

I guess you didn't read my Intro, but the lyrics are anything but "thrown in", they tell the story (albeit loosely) of an actual event.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Not saying there's no meaning or significance to the lyrics. They may be fantastic. But I've never even been able to listen to them because the cadence, the way the music and lyrics mesh together is very disturbing to me.
That's on purpose. It's discordant like the situations.
😢 Way too low can't really hear
😢
Must be on your end, it was plenty loud enough on mine. And that was at half-volume.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Thanks 😊
You're a rocker! You like the neighbors listening 😁😁😁

😂😂😂 Yeah I Do but I'm using a yucky phone (borrowed) and volume is really bad. Love your channel. Love 😘💕
Smoking? Talking about acid, man.
No they're not. Read my Intro in the video.
@robertthering Do you watch Easy Rider quite often?
Nah, bruh.
