Agreed. DLR is more of a showman and brilliant at that. the Pumpkins were great a original. other than that your list is accurate. there are many more to add. Age and overindulging have a lot to do with destroying ones voice. some has survived very well like say Mark Farner.
That was hilarious Larry! I laughed out loud! I agree with ALL of your list, even more than Prog Corners. Finally, someone called out Madonna (and I'm Gay! Ugh! LOL!)! She's always been pitchy and the first one I ever heard of that lip-synced live (in 1984!)
Bob Dylan would be probably my no.1 among legends. His nasal tweedle is unbearable for me. Undeniably great songwriter, but awful singer. Similar story with Lou Reed and David Bowie: wonderful songwriters but terrible vocalists.
I am going to do this one as well..Scot’s was fun..although I only agreed with 90% of his list..I am not a fan of Madonna but have nothing against her voice..you never offended me once with your choices Larry😁❤👍glen
@@hollowaang5284 I like Freddie Mercury's voice (although I'm not a Queen fan), but I've never been able to stand Steve Perry's voice (besides, for me Journey is only their first three albums).
All subjective ... some of my least favorite singer's, are thought of by many to be the very best. I can't change the track fast enough when hearing Steve Perry and Freddie mercury
I think two things are confused in this video: 1. Singers whose voice didn't age well (David Lee Roth might be an example, as you admitted yourself that he was "okay" in his prime - yet he landed on no. 3 on your list), 2. Singers, who generally are terrible for you (regardless of their age/era of their singing - for example Billy Corgan). I think it also would be more fair to pick the videos from prime era to present the list of the least liked singers, and pick newer videos (when voice of singers is deteriorating) to present the list of singers, whose voice doesn't age well.
Wes Scantlin was an alright singer back in the 2000's but these days his voice is basically gone, And he's done nothing to improve his technique Post-Getting sober in 2019. You're probably not aware of them but Austin Winkler of Hinder, Tyler Conolly of Theory of a Deadman, Chris Taylor Brown of Trapt and Kid Rock are my personal bottom of the barrel. Absolute no talents these people are.
Reminds me of a terrible opera singer, who practiced every day to get better but failed. After two months the police knock on her door with complaints of animal abuse. Her neighbors thought she was torturing a Macaw...
Re Alanis Morrisette: I love how some people supposedly hear the words "cross-eyed bear" instead of "cross I bear" in her song "You Oughta Know". As for the rest of your list, apparently you've never heard Wild Man Fischer. He was much worse than anyone you had on your list.
Can't disagree with your choices. I like a few of their songs here and there, and some were better in the early years, but in general they've gone downhill. They should quit while they were ahead. Oh yeah, the number one spot had me roaring in laugher the first time I saw that clip! (You got to hand it to Russell Mael, now there's a singer who is just as good as ever!)
Worst singers: Michael Stipe, Tom Petty, Adam Levine, Bob Dylan, Fred Schneider, Hank Williams, SR., Earnest Tubb, Mick Jagger, Justin Bieber, And pretty much any singer in the 21st century because if not for Autotune, they wouldn't even have a recording contract.
Great List, as well as yours, Here's some of mine: Bryan Adams. Michael McDonald. Elvis Presley. Billy Joel. Joni Mitchell. Phil Collins. Neil Diamond. Glen Frey. John Lennon. Whitney Houston Kylie Minogue. Axl Rose. Christopher Cross. Frank Sinatra. Meatloaf. George Harrison. Shirley Strachan. John(ny) Farnham. Tones And I. Jimmy Barnes. #1. Freddy Mercury.
Axel Rose was one of the best and most unique rock singers of all time. As for what he sounds like now I do not know. But I am 67 and heard them all and he is the best hard rock singer to come along since Robert Plant
To say that Janis Joplin is not a good singer would be to say Joe Cocker is a bad singer. Two of the most soulful singers of the 70's, among many others. 😎👍
--Alanis' "pitch breaks" always annoyed me. It's my own prejudice; I can't listen to Delores O'Riordon for the same reason --Chad Kroeger was great until I heard more than one Nickleback song; sounding exactly similar in every track. Same reason I can't listen to the Hysteria album by Def Leppard. --Madonna's voice was tolerable, but her personality still isn't. --Saw GnR a few years before Chinese Democracy came out. I'm glad that Bob Dylan wasn't in your list. I could never listen to Nick Cave. I recently listened to Alanis Morrissette first two albums and she's definitely not a bad singer, I just find her songs are a bit depressing.
I'm glad I watched this at work, or I would have had to peel my cats off the ceiling when Scantlin was singing. As far as Lou Reed and Randy Newman, I've never had an issue with their singing. Yoko Ono, on the other hand... But, to each their own.
The singer from Rush - I’ve tried getting into their music but the singer has no grit. Also, I can’t listen to Bruno Mars - I wouldn’t say he’s a bad singer but I just don’t like the sound of his voice. For me, I don’t judge singers on how they sound when they are older but how they sounded in their prime and I do realize some have always been bad.
Good list Larry. Your initial facial reaction when Dave Lee Roth sang literally made me laugh out loud. 😂 Axel Rose vocals I was never a fan of even in his prime. His voice is just annoying and even more so now. You could have Vince or Axel at number 1 they're both horrible 😂
Dave Matthews Michael Stipe Fred Schneider Freddie Mercury Axl Rose Ozzie Ozbourne Lemmy (sounds like he’s being strangled) Bon Scott (sounds like he’s got a pickle stuck in his throat) Cher Marilyn Manson Kurt Cobain. ….that’s the first 11 that come to mind in no particular order, but I could keep going. Add pretty much every rap song (if you can even call that singing) and every effeminate modern boy band or over produced pop star, 80’s hair metal, death metal croaking etc etc…
I actually was surprised that Axel Rose wasn’t your number one! For the most part, I do agree with you, Larry. I liked Alanis Morissette & Madonna’s stuff from the time she came out till the early 2000s although I only bought one of Madonna’s albums back in the 80s. As for all the costume changes, etc. I know you’re not a H&O fan, but I saw John Oates this summer & he did a Music & Stories concert. Just him, a couple of guys, no costume changes, no crazy lights. it was so enjoyable. That’s the way it should be.💁🏻♀️
Axl Rose did sound way way better from 2016 until about 2018, where his voice got worse and worse. He fronted AC/DC briefly live and did amazing. But his vouce is shot now. Surprisingly, I was going to use Axl today as an example of the singer on my list. Peopke today often say Axl has a Mickey Mouse vouce, which is what I would call Geddy Lee's. Rush's music is great, but I have never liked his voice from the first time I heard it in 1976. I agree totally about David Lee Roth. When Kiss replaces you as an opening act with a painter, that says much.
Good video, Larry! Dr. Paul Bertolino and the As It Should Be channel all had Jagged Little Pill as their worst album of 1995, and I have to agree, she just can’t sing worth a damn, even tho I love what the album’s about!
Great video. I would have been disappointed if Vince wasn't #1. He's in a league of his own. The worst part is that I saw him perform live about 18 years ago and he was rotten even then.
It's funny because a lot of people's picks for this one include some of the most widely praised singers out there at this point I wouldn't be surprised if John Lennon was on one of these lists. So overrated. I don't have a problem with them not having range. My issue is when they they mostly screech, scream, or are just plain out of tune....
springsteen...his only good "performance" song was when the prevailing line was only 4 easy to enunciate notes sung again and again. Off key, bellowed verses, and nasal as hell.
I would say art, like music is subjective! But I couldn’t agree wit you more, either the exception of Roger Waters, and Axl Rose. I get that they don’t sound as good as they did when they were younger. Axl now sounds horrible! I’ve even heard that Roger Waters lip syncs now? All the other singer I agree 100%!! Madonna has always been a terrible singer, she always sounds Flat! Billy Corgan is like listening to nails being dragged down a chalkboard! Can’t stand Bon Jovi musically, or as a person.Vince Neil has never been good, and I don’t get Motley Crue at all! David Lee Roth was way better a long time ago! Alanis Morisette is extremely overrated. I’m always amaze when people say to me, you don’t like her? No! Is it mandatory?🤣Nickleback is rank! Never been a fan. One you didn’t mention, which is from a different time period, Cher!🤮 break out the auto tuner! Good group of crap? I mean bad🤣
Ok after watching this whole thing. Chad Kroeger has the generic late 90s lead singer voice. I liked David Lee Roth for Van Halen his screeches and squeels plus his swagger and bravado added a energy Van Halen needed he was the sizzle for the Van Halen steak. Sammy Hagar is flat. However after seeing that performance I would say David Lee Roth aged like milk. As for vocalists I think are bad Bob Dylan Adam Durwitz and anyone else who sings through their nose.
@canadianstudmuffin David Lee Roth as front man of Van Halen is something that never should have worked, but it did. There's another huge credit for Michael Anthony not only was he able to flawlessly keep up with Alex. He was also able to harmonize with David.
Larry, there are some really bad singers out there and yes some bad singers that somehow make it work,as I've always said you don't sing a Barbra Streisand song if you can't sing like Barbra Streisand, what you do do is sing in a style that suits your voice like Bob Dylan,Neil Young and most rock singers, technically and I include myself in this all rock singers are hacks compared to real singers like Pavarotti,Josh Grogan and Celine Dion, actually I think of rock, pop and country singing as musical talking,no one's really singing they're just talking musically on different notes, funny but even though I just said what I said Larry I would never buy an album by any of those three real singers,I prefer hacks like me! Bob
I 100% agree with you about Madonna. Cannot stand her. But i have to agree to disagree with you on Alanis. She got me through my marriage breakdown in 1997 😂😂
On the whole a very good list that mostly avoided the cliches while rightly spot lighting the truly overrated. I agreed with ALL the choices who ARE all rubbish EXCEPT for #2. Sure I get it is popular to hate on Guns and Roses (who WERE overrated in their prime and now just hated) these days but the pile on is boring. Wes was the worst of the worst. I do NOT agree that Axl vocals are OR were SHIT when in his heyday (in particular) he was actually very good for his style of singing! (It is not my kind of music TBH but I know worse when I hear it). So a 90% from me which is very close to perfect. Substitute, Pearl Jam's 'singer' to get 100% (Can't stand him, IMHO only Nirvana were great in Grunge)! I LOVE Neil Young's, Lou Ree's and Dylan's earlier singing btw!
good list, i would add lou reed, randy newman, yoko ono, bon scott, peter wolf, suzanna hoffs, john lydon, jerry garcia, bob dylan and keith richards. people who i think have good voices but are not necescarilly good singers are tom yorke, patti labelle and steven tyler.
Thom Yorke can actually sing really well when he's not jumping around like a loon on stage or furiously playing guitar, if you want to see him sing amazingly live try the song Nude live from the basement. He just stands in one spot without his guitar and sings his ass off. I'm very curious what you think of it if you do check it out, so let me know.
Good list. I’d have Corgan number one. His whiny tone stops me listening to the band, who have done some decent music. He can write a song too - should have stayed in the band and brought a proper singer in.
Dave Mustaine vocals were always bad but connected good with Megadeth’s sound. It’s thrashy enough. Same goes with Roger Waters , he is not a good singer with great vocals just an average singer throughout his entire career unlike David Gilmour.
There are no bad singers. There are however lame arrangements.... funeral🙄🍄 who ever, this looks like a hoot🦉just listened to Madame Butterfly ( classical). I must start the video over. That Crue clip was worth the price of admission.
I agree to 8 out of 10 on your list plus the ones they are bad/worst or i don't like the voice: Bob Dylan, Chris Martin, Tom Waits, Thom Yorke, Dave Matthews and so on ...
My list of 10 worst singers in no particular order: Rod Stewart, Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, Anita Baker, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton and Matthew Bellamy of Muse.
Matthew Bellamy? That's a surprise. What do you dislike about him? Just because the band he is a frontman of is terrible doesn't mean he is a terrible singer.
Can't argue with most of your choices 😅 10 singers I think are very bad: Bob Dylan, Kesha, Taylor Swift, Neil Young, Geddy Lee, David Lee Roth, Lou Reed, Axl Rose, Fred Durst & Sam Hunt😊
I like the Doobie Brothers but not with Michael McDonald! He tries to sound like a black soul singer but he has no soul! He sounds like he is eating the microphone and I can never understand what he is saying! Bob Dylan is a terrible singer also and Robert Plant's voice gets on my nerves too! Also Mick Jagger has a terrible voice and so does Elton John and Paul Macartney. And Alanis Morrisette has a terrible voice and so does Geddy Lee and so did Leonard Cohen.

@@davidsnyder2524 I don't think she's joking, but she's definitely clueless. She did get it right with Yoko.
Dylan, especially in the 80s, could be a nightmare. Kudos on the Roger Waters, great musician but terrible singer
springsteen...his only good "performance" song was when the prevailing line was only 4 easy to enunciate notes sung again and again. Off key, bellowed verses, and nasal as hell.
I couldn't stand Jon Bon Jovi's voice from the beginning. Geddy Lee's voice sounds nasally and high. Not good.
Oh yes, David Lee Roth was great in Van Halen as a front man, but was never a fan of his vocals. Thanks!
@canadianstudmuffin David Lee Roth as front man of Van Halen is something that never should have worked, but it did. There's another huge credit for Michael Anthony not only was he able to flawlessly keep up with Alex. He was also able to harmonize with David.
The movie Ted had a little snippet about 90s singers that was hilarious 😂.
Bob
Great list Larry.
Someone I'd put on the list is Bob Dylan ( controversial I know )
Yup……..I think this is a very accurate list. 👍
I LOVE Neil Young's, Lou Ree's and Dylan's earlier singing btw!
that 'top 4' done live... really puts it all in perspective.
Trul😢 truly painful
good list, i would add lou reed, randy newman, yoko ono, bon scott, peter wolf, suzanna hoffs, john lydon, jerry garcia, bob dylan and keith richards. people who i think have good voices but are not necescarilly good singers are tom yorke, patti labelle and steven tyler.
This video's got me cravin' some cheesecake.
you picked a lot of singers that are weill past their prime. They weren't that bad back in their hay days
They are singing badly. that's all that counts.
Lara Trump 😮 hands down
She's in another universe of sucking.
LOL. Good one!
I agree with you on all of them
Are you sure David Lee Roth wasn't lip syncing?
Nailed the top 3. Pretty awful 😖
I could've put a 20$ on the table that Vince Neil would be your no 1 hahahaha
Add Layne Staley to that list too lol
What!?!?! No way.
You're kidding. Staley's one of the Greatest of All Time.
Tom Waits.
he's self satirical, singing hoarse and out of tune so you listen to the irony of the lyrics.
For me Axl Rose is the worst. Vince neil sound at least kinda funny.
John Stamos :D
Forever!! :D
Top 10 worst famous singers you mean
Whatever makes you happy.
Aaron dessner from the national, ugh!
Bob Dylan. No contest.
Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger.
I LOOOOVE Rod`s voice, one of the best!
👍🏻
Hey get a life and leave people alone 😊
I agree with what you said about yourself!
Can't argue with most of your choices 😅 10 singers I think are very bad: Bob Dylan, Kesha, Taylor Swift, Neil Young, Geddy Lee, David Lee Roth, Lou Reed, Axl Rose, Fred Durst & Sam Hunt😊
Seeing Bob Dylan and Neil Young in the same sentence as Kesha and Taylor Swift trips me out. Not sure what's so bad about the former two
@@neolbioldey Geddy Lee doesn't belong in the same sentence as Kesha or Taylor Swift, either.
@@davej.meister5421 that's true, I love his voice but I get why people don't like it
Besides Rusty Axel Rose, I’d choose Bob Dylan & oh yeah, Bob Dylan! But I really liked your clip of the thing that ate Vince Neal!❤
