Biggest item on RSD Canada will be Tragically Hip Live at CBGBs concert from 1993.
The Doors! Good to see you are Doors fan. I have this recording as a collector for many years, its a radio broadcast ( recorded by Sveriges Radio) with great quality. On the RSD release they used the 4 track tape, so im curious about the quality too! The radio broadcast recording sometimes dull and quiet. Greetings from Hungary!
Deftones fans are gonna be on that Team Sleep release.
Cool list. My #1 is R Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders.
Very excited about the Acetone live one. Might actually have to get in line this year.
Saludos y BENDICIONES desde Puerto Rico
The Wilco Boxset, Parklife, and Everbody Digs Bill Evans are all high on my wishlist this year. I may even be tempted by the Cannonball Adderley live sets…
Lots of great releases. The best list this decade
Pearl Jam Dark Matter has a Ten club red/black. They have a clear and a black. RSD gets a special release; it's ulgy, but I'll be there for it. Ten club website wants $13 shipping.
I would like the Mark Knopfler album, The America live album, the Tesla album, The Doors box set.. The Paper Kites and Noah Kahan album.. ooh and the Thin Lizzy album. Man this RSD list is crazy good this year, I don’t have enough money to get all that I want. Thanks for sharing
Craig
A pre order I made last September was due to be released early December. It came late January.
Communication from the label cited delays in jacket production. This could be why numbers are down thus RSD.
I'm excited for the Ramones and Doors releases. I hope I'm able to get copies
Don’t worry there will be more than enough. If not on RsD then afterwards. And I am not talking Ebay here where greedy b@st@rds try to sell you these “rare” titles at even more insane prices than the stores on RSD.
Don’t bother buying this Doors Stockholm. It is sourced from a Japanese bootleg CD.
I am late to this video but I wanted to add some details to the Nat King Cole Live At The Blue Note Chicago release which I have been deeply involved in for over a year... - Audio restoration was done from over 20 reels - once that got all sorted Kevin Gray cut the lacquers from hi res files. Plating and Pressing at R.T.I. on 180g.
The sound is astonishing good - Nat's performance affirms why he is such a legend. Jackets were done at Stoughton, Double gatefold Tip On Jacket, 6 page insert + 4 page replica of the Blue Note Newsletter that used to be sent out. Sound is incredibly great for a live 1953 recording. Absolutely essential off that RSD list. I am gonna get Mike a copy so he can show you all....
Best jazz selection in a while
Another release I saw on the MoV website is the Matching Mole - S/T Expanded Edition. Limited to 1000 copies on 2xYellow/Orange vinyl. Includes 7 extra tracks including a single version, alternate takes and bonus tracks. I am sure some copies may or may not come to the US or is it EU only?
Hey Mike,
There are at least 7 I’m interested in:
Acetone- I’ve Enjoyed As Much of This As I Can Stand- Live at the Knitting Factory
Yusef Lateef- Atlantis Lullaby
Mavis Staples- Have A Little Faith
Television- Live at The Academy
The Power of the Heart- Tribute to Lou Reed
Todd Rundgren- Todd
Chet Baker- studio recording
I’m still emotionally scared from the collection acquisition videos and seeing mike admit how he will leave albums at home needing to get them for years before getting back what he’s not keeping. Like I could potentially wait years to see a turquoise zeppelin at in the groove because there’s four at mikes house and he doesn’t know which one is the best because he’s got 90 other records to sort first. Pure horror man. I guess that’s a good problem for YOU to have ahaha.
I have been buying records since the 1960's. The music industry is starting to return to the bad old ways which killed the goose. Last week I rec'd a new record from a reputable UK on line seller that was not AMZ, it was unplayable due to a pressing fault (warped) The seller tried to refuse a return (having previously done so, I had returned 1 record in last 3 years with no issues) It was only when I pointed out that under UK law the item was not of "merchantable" quality and they could not refuse my return that they relented with very bad grace. Consequently I cancelled 28 open pre orders valued at > £800.00 and they lost a long standing customer. I dislike using AMZ, in the UK they are a poor employer, expensive, have poor packaging and a terrible delivery process to rural areas even with prime. However the true test of a seller is NOT when things are going well but when they go wrong. AMZ's no quibble return means that I have returned to buying from them. So no I will not support small independent stores if they are going to return to "stiffing" the customer for the manufacturers mistakes
Hi Mike !
Bungeebill, Hood Rat Records, Yuma Arizona here !!
I've only been back into the Vinyl Record world for 3 years, but I have bought 15,000+ Records in that short time.
When it comes to Record Store Day, I have experienced only confusion and frustration. 😢
I never know when it's going down, or what Records are being offered, at what quantities are available, or what needs to be done to purchase those.
Imagine if your only information was this video.
That's how it is for me, I buy 5000 Records per year and I can't buy the record store day stuff because it's promoted as if it's a secret.
I've built several successful companies in my life and if I had promoted them in the manner in which Record Store Day is promoted, each and every one would have been dead before they could stand on their own feet.
I live and breathe this stuff Mike, and Record Store Day feels like a secret no one wants to share.
Biggest one on my Radar is Collective Soul Dosage😎🤘
Yes, i'm excited too. The other one's are Tesla - Reel to Reel and Mötley Crüe🖖
Only one I’m interested in.
@@sittnonchrome Ok now I’m after Collective Soul, The Cranberries, and Murder Was The Case Soundtrack 🤔
Most of the jazz are RSD firsts so I’m ok waiting for those to be issued later, probably why the small numbers you mention. I’m not seeing a lot of extras in them except essays so I’m ok waiting. The mono Evans is sweet, craft will do a stereo later. I like to focus on exclusive over first. Just need to be patient. Thanks for the video!
I'm looking forward to Nocturne by Siouxsie & The Banshees & The four LP Tom Verlaine box. Lots & Lots of Live ones this year. Television & Talking Heads are intriguing. I think it's a solid list.
One interesting release is a shaped lemon picture disc of Fools Garden - Lemon tree limited to 900 copies. Going to be a hot item but eventually BMG (owner of older Fools Garden albums from 91 to 2003) will release Dish of the Day on Vinyl for the first time.
I am trying to keep my list to 10 which currently is very difficult to do for me! But a lot depends on the two stores I usually visit and what they receive.
Hi Mike. Greetings from Philly. Not complaining about this list. I may pick up 8 albums in the genres of rap/hip hop, r&b, reggae, jazz, and gospel. I will say that I’m 53 and as far as rap, I prefer rap from the early 2000s and before. Not a big fan of current rap. So, budget permitting, I’ll be picking up titles by: (1) Boogie Down Productions; (2) Jimmy Cliff; (3) Olivia Dean; (4) Bill Evans; (5) Foxy Brown; (6) Walter Hawkins; (7) Notorious B.I.G. (Instrumentals), and (8) Queen Latifah. Younger folks into rap & r&b will be scooping up titles by Wiz Khalifa, Lil Uzi Vert, Metro Boomin, Young Thug, The Wknd, and Summer Walker.
Our local record store owner for the last 20 years just passed away. He was a dear friend, and honestly, this RSD will be difficult without him. Always got my vinyl through him, and now I am not sure how to even go about getting some of these, considering it was literally the last new record store in town. Do you ship RSD vinyl, or is it for in store purchase only?
I got Dave Pike "Noisy Silence Gentle Noise" recently, it's awesome.
Will pick up: Gene Clark the 2, The Cranberries, Mark Knopfler and possibly Neil Y
I'll definitely be trying to get a copy of the Bill Evans. If I am unable to get one on RSD, do you think Craft puts that title out again, maybe in the OJC Series?
Looking at 7 releases right now... the 2 Cannonball, Bill Evans, Shelly Manne, Charlie Parker, Lowell George, and Ian Hunter
I usually buy between 25-35 RSD releases but I’ve only counted about 15 I want thus far. I wouldn’t say this is a bad list; it’s got a lot of releases that I already have. It also has a lot of releases I don’t want, but can acknowledge have mass appeal to others.
Geez...commercials cut you off in mid-sentence....
I'm looking at around 25 releases, which is a huge number for me. 100 Gecs, Sabrina Carpenter, Eric Carr, Daft Punk, Nancy Sinatra, Sleater-Kinney, Snarky Puppy, Sparks, Queen Latifah. There's so many good releases.
Mike, Dont sleep on the young crowd this year. There are 3 releases I would stock up on. The Lil Uzi Vert mixtape (been OOP, a bit expensive), Young Thug Jeffery (highly sought after, very expensive), and the Laufey live show (shes massively popular right now. Her 7" release last year is worth a few hundred now; now imagine a her only live album finally being on vinyl). These items will guarantee sell out and show up for multiple times more on the resale market. Just a tip.
Hip hop is stacked this year tbh, just wish there was maybe some more classics ie ATCQ, Jay-z
I need that Uzi
Going for the George Harrison zoetrope discs, the "Crooked Boy" Ringo Starr colored vinyl EP and the John Lennon colored vinyl Mind Games EP.
Unless I missed you saying it, the mono reissue of the Birds the Bees and the Monkees is going to be a grail find. Even tho its RSD First, only 2000 copies
Team Sleep is Chino from Deftones. Popular with Deftones and Pinback fans. At The Drive-In will also be popular.....they basically became Mars Volta
Mike. Did you say the was a Jim Croce live album ? Couldn’t see it in the actual list .
Getting any copies of Team Sleep?? I’m looking for that!
Looking forward to the Bill Evans, parliament and I wouldn’t sleep on that At the Drive In (Cedric and Omar before Mars Volta) that hasn’t been in print for a long time and is a bit expensive on Discogs.
I’m barely getting into the vinyl world. If you can tell me what gems are a must buy that will sky rocket in prices I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you
Looking for a dozen of the RSD releases. typically, I'll exceed that number.
Mike, do you know how many copies of the Talking Heads release you’ll be getting in?
There are at least 3 I plan on getting, which is way more than usual
If I can get the Art Tatum boxset, I’ll be very happy. 🤗
I have not seen the actual list. Of the records you mentioned: AWB (live), Doors (live), Dead (box set), Garcia, Stones, Amboy Dukes, Neil Young, Chris Isaak?, Ronstadt?, 1975?
I'm looking at 7 right now. Excited for the Gandalf one. Todd Rundgren. Dio. Voivod. And actually do want the Linda Ronstadt one.
Gandalf is gonna be very difficult to find and then flippers will jack up price online. Hope they press more after RSD.
@@ChrisC-uk8qm me too
@@ChrisC-uk8qm RSD site said it would be a first release. Maybe there will be more copies on their website after RSD or a standard black pressing could come out at a later date. Though some blur the lines with RSD first and Exclusive and not repress those releases or consider the digital as the mass market release.
Bill, Band X, and a maybe for the Huun-Huur-Tu collab.
Parliament, Bowie, & Gorillaz are enough to bring me out early this year. Probably the Buckley as well!
I’m going for: Nine horses (David Sylvian) snow Bourne sorrow
Elmer Bernstein Airplane!
Sparks no 1 song in heaven
Mavis Staples
The Hip CBGB
I usually avoid RSD. I've only done one and that was just to take my daughter to get a Taylor Swift record. With that said, there are about 10 titles I want.
im getting 3
dolores, yes yale bowl, and alan parsons project alternate pyramids.
The titles I am looking forward to are: The Faces, Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Cannonball Adderly, Television, Talking Heads
2. Maybe 3. Ramones of course.
Mike I watch your videos all the time , you have tons of information. Here’s a quick question for you or anyone on here . When a guy like Kevin Gray masters an album, about how long is the process ? Same goes for Chris Bellman , Bernie and others . It seems these guys do such good work but just wondering how long it might take . Thanks Mike . Love your channel very informative.
Coming from the world of mixing and mastering and all things recording engineering I can tell you a proper master is no longer than a week, with a two to three days given to a few tracks each, a few hours on each one, after finding the issues and the way to fix it. It’s not that crazy.
Thanks for the reply . I've wondered for a long time how these guys like Kevin Gray and Bernie Grundman are able to remaster or just master so many great records .@@arzabael
@@louissaraiva2296 well those guys may have different processes. When I was doing it, none of the people I learned from were mastering for vinyl, which at this point in life I always wonder why, but that’s just digital music for you.
I’ve been wanting a Zot trope, but don’t want something I don’t really wanna play, so yes, the George Harrison Wonderwall, not the other Harrison Electronic
Don’t forget Gandalf for the psych heads
I was surprised when I heard people complaining (or bitching) on Reddit that this list is trash. I'm a very picky buyer and this is the first time i'll ever be buying multiple things on RSD or Black Friday, best list yet IMO
For hiphop fans this is a great RSD list!
South Park 25th anniversary concert Hope to get my hands on that one
Hunky dory best Bowie album
Quite a few, some hard to get. I’d like to get the flying burrito bros, Chet, Motörhead, the doors, Eric carr, Grateful Dead, talking heads. I was excited for the Motley Crue, because its finally not from the first 4 albums, but then i found it was a pic disc which is disappointing.
Pending more specifics about price, there are over a dozen titles on here I'd be looking to pick up
Actually has stuff I would queue-up for - a first for me
I agree that Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is David Bowie's best album. There are artistic endeavors out there that are so excellent that they nearly transcend subjectivity. I'm not talking 'favorite' here. I'm talking 'best'. Works like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead's OK Computer or Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. These aren't even necessarily my "favorites" by those particular artists but I can't deny that they are each respective artist's magnum opus.
Indeed. This latest RSD is extremely weak.
Looking at the 100 gecs, blessed union of souls, the hives and paramore releases
THe Faces, the live Stones, Malfunkshun, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Bill Evans, Bowie, Brother Jack McDuff
My list is Boogie Down Productions, Cranberries, Dead Milkmen, Foxy Brown, Dolores O'Riordan (only 600?!), Ramones and Team Sleep. Wildcards are Garbage, Joe Strummer and Thin Lizzy.
Around 12 titles for me this year.
The Harmonia album
"Beatles toilet paper" tells you more about Beatles collectors than the music...
G Love and Special Sauce
Dio - Zeotrope
Talking heads sounds good too
I just saw someone mention R. Crumb - I need that too
Another Who compilations, have they no shame?
There are some live albums of interest. Mats, Television, Yes '71, Thin Lizzy, maybe Doors, Faces BBC, America Hollywood, and I would stock the Bowie, and a couple each of the Fleetwood Mac, Harrison, and T Rex picture discs.
And the Jazz stuff that you already know is most hot.
I think there is a lot of iffy stuff here. Is the Burritos live any good, with Gram? Oh and the Capt. Beefheart you do not want to be caught without stocking at least a copy or two of that cool double set. Beefheart is a slow seller but a must have for certain listeners, I want it.
Don’t forget the Band X and Bodysnatchers releases!
So many great releases for this one, I can’t wait 🤘🏼🤘🏼
12 for me.
8 to 10
Shelly manne is gonna be a good one.
Talking heads, Thin Lizzy, Ramones, for sure. Maybe Rocky Horror, Up in Smoke and Rumors
I am interested in 2 titles. The Doors live and Thin Lizzy live. Also, Ann Wilson. Not interested in any soundtracks this time around.
Huge let down. Im interested in the bill evans and thats about it. Biggest let down is the motley crue. Big missed opportunity. Never released on vinyl and they made it a picture disc.
Probably a few, but my record store doesn't take exchanges do to pressing defects. It's problematic sending back to the record company. Really limits my purchases
I was just given grief from an online independent store re a Blue Note Classic series with unplayable edge warp, so cancelled 23 pre-orders valued £25 to £90 each. Vote with your feet. Didn't want to but gone back to Amazon
I'm looking forward to the Team Sleep, Nancy Sinatra, Tom Verlaine, and Television...
around 10 at your store Mike
aghh!! why didn't At The Drive-In re-release Relationship of Command?? So gutted
I wish that’s what RSD was re-release of classic albums that haven’t been released in awhile (11 years for Relationship of Command). Instead RSD is “dad band” box sets, picture discs, live albums, and novelty albums…yuck. I’ll sell you my OG pressing of Relationship of Command for the small $200 lol
The young Taylor fans will be at the store on April 19th, the day before RSD so at least RSD should be all adults! lol. As for the list, I have to drive 360 km's to the nearest record store, and sadly nothing on the list will get me to do that drive. I will try to get a couple titles on the Sunday morning. Cheers
How can so few copies get in all the stores?
125k copies sounds a lot but for popular mainstream entertainers like Swift, or the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc it is not, so not surprised the price is relatively high now for her recent release.
Getting in line early for JOE PESCI. lol.
🤣🤣🤣 me too!!! I'm praying it goes under the radar and I can snag a copy
Doors, Bowie and Kristin Hersh
Talking Heads, Cranberries, Dolores O'Riordan, Bowie
Regional focus is generally less than 1000 copies.
I will be picking up at least 7 titles:
Air
Bill Evans
Grateful Dead (maybe)
Mingus
Notorious BIG instrumental
Pixies
Talking Heads
Team Sleep
The Dixie Dregs and Todd titles have piqued my interest. The Orca soundtrack is a possibility too.
Foxy Brown, G. love, Nancy Sinatra, Dwight Yoakam.
Bill Evans and Earl Hooker for me
My list
David Bowie
Nat King Cole
Elton John
The English Beat
Delores O'Riordan
Everyone is sleeping on Tinted Windows!
