  • The Locust are evil monsters, yeah. But the Coalition of Ordered Governments? They're so much worse.
    (For legal reasons no Carmines were killed in the making of this video).

    Regarding the New COG using the harmmer, minister Jin and Ana were both against using the hammer. If I remember correctly, Ana even brought the system down after the lambit when she she elected as Minister. It was kait, Marcus, and company that brought the hammer back up even when they were told not to.
    But I kinda see Kait and company's logic for bringing back the hammer as well, nothing the New COG was working against the swarm. If anything in my opinion the New COG is worse than the old one, the old COG at LEAST did something to defend against Locust, even if their actions were monstrous. The New COG and minster jin just sat around and did nothing as both settlements and oustider camps were killed by the swarm. They literally thought hiding behind their settlement's walls would actually do something
    It also doesn't help the Jin wanted to hook Kait back into the swarm hive mind and arrest them all for not complying. Honestly Jin is the worst leader in the franchise strategy wise, sure Prescott was a bastard for the things he did as chairman and for leaving the COG after the sinking of Jacinto. But at least the man actually did something, staging an assault on the locust, trying to find a way to end the war. Compared to Jin, she didn't literally nothing to help fight the swarm.

    These COG/UIR war crimes make the Imperium of Man green with envy.
    Besides, the Human governments in Halo are way less antagonistic to their own people, yet ONI has some skeletons in their closet. But that's nothing compared to the Covenant's immense war crimes and near omnicide of the Galaxy.

      The only thing they have that would make the Imperium of Man green with envy's the Imulsion Countermeasure. Otherwise the Imperium makes the UIR/COG look like boyscouts.

    I mean, I get its morally wrong. But survival of the entire race supersedes morals that hinder survival in certain cases. But those hammer strikes really didn't help the COG in the war.

      @Buster-McTunder  Рік тому +2

      I dunno. There’s survival, and there’s cruelty. Nothing the COG did really actually helped to win the war, especially considering it took a planet wide gene-cleanser to win.

      @@Buster-McTunder The hammer of dawn counterattack did in fact help them in the war. To elaborate, not long prior; Prescott had all the data and numbers for the war's progression and where it's leading on his desk, and there was only one conclusion:
      Humanity was six months from extinction.
      To prevent this he had two plans in mind. The first one was to martial all still-surviving nations for a global counterattack into the Hollows, but everyone had given up. Humanity were fighting tribe by tribe, nation by nation, saving their WMDs for the end game. Only the southern islands offered troops. With no other choice left, he convened a meeting that included Hoffman and Dr. Fenix, and the Hammer of Dawn counterattack was decided upon. This killed a great many people, but it also stripped the Locust of all their surface gains in armaments, territory, and resources. Turning six months of certain death into fourteen+ years of a fighting chance to turn things around.

    In my own head cannon… just based off what’s known of the birthing farms, as far as what happened to Sofia I feel it’s much darker than a simple assassination. Based off of how COG soldiers conducted themselves in said birthing farms I feel it’s safe to assume that these were COG defectors turned Stranded that “kidnapped” (I’m sure you know what I’m alluding to) Sofia in this post apocalyptic scenario and with how Paduk talks about it is definitely much worse than a simple killing.

      Perhaps, if they did not just take her also to the COG equivalent of Guantanamo for being an Onyx in league with UIR terrorists.

    Only detail I noticed was off is the date for the planet-wide hammer strikes. They occurred nearly a year after E-Day since the Coalition was about a month away from collapse. The hammer strikes outright halted the Locust advance for years, since it wasn’t until 8A.E. that the Locust reorganized enough to resume their drive on Ephyra. Other than that, good video. Gears of war does a terrific job at highlighting the destructive nature of war and how low nations will have to stoop to win these increasingly devastating conflicts.

    I can add one to your list: The Siege of Anvil Gate. In which Hoffman held Anvil Gate but it couldn't last, so he officially waved the white flag. The UIR sent in some lieutenant who offered water, and food to the starved soldiers and promised relatively good conditions as POW. Then Hoffman gave the order to pretty much set the streets on fire and kill the UIR soldiers.
    I'd also like to add to Aspho fields (idk how exactly it is portrayed in the 10 mins in the game) but in the book they don't kill the scientists, the goal is to kidnap them and the data, so they could work for the cog or at least can't work for the UIR. They weren't killed by the cog. But the UIR fired on the boats where those civvies were on (Dom got his embry for jumping from his boat to the other which was sinking, saving as many people as possible)

    • @Buster-McTunder
      @Buster-McTunder  Рік тому +2

      I’m not sure about the discrepancies for the scientists, i think it might’ve come from a later source in Gears 4 that totally ignored the books (as most of 4:5 does) or gotten confused with the UIR shooting scientists in Vasgar. Either way, the COG still suck! 😀
      But the Anvil Gate thing is cool, thank you for that!

    War part of Gears of War is often overlooked

      The games definitely feel like they hold back on it. Even in Gears 2 with Tai and New Hope, they refuse to do anything with the ideas rather than the shock factor and it’s unfortunate none of the games pick it up. Char does the best job imo but it’s a footnote in Gears 3 overshadowed by Dom’s death and Ice T.
